Easily in the discussion for best basketball book ever written.

I loved that he generally wrote sports without focusing on the teams/players at the top.  Off the top of my head, he wrote books about minor league baseball, minor league golf, and Patriot League basketball.

Appreciated his passion for sports and writing about what made things unique/ interesting/ special.

RIP.

By far my most read sports author. His often repeated approach of “season on the inside” never failed to deliver.

Great Rick Barnes anecdotes in A March to Madness. Also really enjoyed A Good Walk Spoiled.

He was a Friday regular on a DC sports talk show that I’ve followed for years.  He showed a side of himself that was far from the persona most would recognize.  Good sense of humor and a great story teller.  It all boiled down to him knowing everybody in college basketball and having access to them all.  My first Friday morning sports fix isn’t going to be as interesting or entertaining.

Wasn't a fan in general due to his Duke knob slobbing and haven't read any of his books(which I should remedy) but found him to be pretty good analyst for Patriot League games.  I wonder if his daughter Bridgett improved her drum playing? IYKYK.
