July 9Jul 9 I saw it at an AMC IMAX. Showtime was 7:15, movie started at 7:46. Which was great for us because we were 20min late.
July 9Jul 9 Did you all get the Leo DiCaprio trailer that gave zero info what the movie was about? We looked at each other and said "what?"

July 9Jul 9 I saw F1 at the Lincoln Center IMAX, which, like the Bullock, is a real IMAX. The story was predictable, but the racing scenes were fucking awesome.

So nice to walk in anytime 20 minutes after the scheduled start. yeah, that's how we do it. Buy tickets online, show up 15 minutes late, get settled in our seats, order beers/wine through the app.

And the film and sound work were incredible. There were times when they made the racecars sound like monsters, fire-breathing dragons and such. Cool stuff. Those cars sound awesome in person. Just saying.

July 9Jul 9 A cool $60 for 2 IMAX tickets at Regal. I’m going in about an hour. This movie better rule.

July 10Jul 10 I liked it quite a bit. Maybe a thinking man’s Bruckheimer movie + a love letter to F1. The volume wasn’t right. Not sure if it’s an Apple thing or a theater thing. Cars weren’t loud enough. Granted, it’s been a few years, but open-wheel races are loud as hell.
July 10Jul 10 Further F1 thoughts: Spoiler - I think we needed the action is the juice scene with Pitt and Bardem. Sonny certainly alludes to it on the balcony and in his final conversation with Pearce, but it could have been a great scene and explained his mission statement. - I could watch Brad Pitt play the stoic, coolest guy in any room in a dozen more movies, but I’m seeing a trend here in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Wolfs, and F1. I hope he gets out of his comfort zone, makes some choices, and goes for it soon. Then again, he might not give a shit. He knows that Lifetime Achievement Oscar is waiting for him whenever he wants it. - No problems with Damson Idris’ performance. They asked for a cocky F1 driver with a chip on his shoulder and he gave us exactly that. - Bardem is barely in it. A couple more scenes with Pitt would been great. - Kerry Condon is a terrific actress. I’ve liked her in everything since I first noticed her as a jockey in Luck. - The team building stuff really worked. I wish they winked at Major League because the plots are identical. - Good popcorn summer movie that looked great on IMAX film/screen.
July 10Jul 10 Really enjoyed the movie. Only slight criticism Spoiler Kind of felt the climax of the movie - Pitt winning - he should've beaten someone, rather than the top 2 guys take each other out. I get the silent flying thing, just felt we needed that "can he do it?" moment rather than what seemed like a "just don't wreck" moment where you see no other cars.

I showed up to F1 about 20 minutes late, watched a preview or 2 and then it was showtime. 2) No intermission required for this length of film, though I prefer shorter movies, and this one could have lost 15-20 minutes and been fine. I don't go to the movie theater much anymore, but for a big film like F1 or Top Gun: Maverick, the experience is worth it to me.
July 16Jul 16 I went on Monday. I had had zero expectations. I thought that they would screw it up. I don't think they did. It was good, a bit predictable, as others have said but, all in all, I enjoyed it.
July 17Jul 17 Author Finally got around to seeing it. The story is whatever but I’m truly baffled how they made some of those scenes. Very impressive craftwork.
July 18Jul 18 didn't they film actual races and then like 'insert' the APX car footage on somehow, i think...i dunno, but that was fun! 👍 cinematography and sound accolades coming their way. but holy crap was it Bruckheimer-y 😆 Pitt does seem to be kind of phoning it in lately...but he's still charisma and coolness poured into a very nice package 😛 Shea Whigham continues to be the most ubiquitous man in Hollywood lol previews: Leo and PTA...can't wait. The Smashing Machine is Oscar bait for The Rock. and The Odyssey is gonna have quite the build-up to live up to! 🤨 Eddington opens tomorrow, it's next on the list. A24 just doesn't seem to miss!

Also, at many tracks they also ran their fake team's real cars during breaks in the action between practice sessions or qualifying, to get scenes with their cars and drivers on the actual tracks in real time. And then a couple of times, they actually pulled up their fake team's real cars to the back of the grid at the start of an actual F1 race, to get some establishing shots and some footage of their cars taking off at the same time as the other real, actual F1 cars. In those cases their fake cars peeled off at some point during the first lap, so as not to interfere with the actual racecars running the real race. If you noticed, the Apex team was almost always starting in the final two places on the grid. That's because they wanted them to be filmed on the grid in real life without interfering, but it also worked for the plot of the movie because, in fact, their cars were supposed to be quite crappy until their upgrades arrived late in the season, and they would have been qualifying poorly, anyway. Anyway, completely agree they did some creative and innovative things with both sound and cameras, and they should be nominated for a lot of awards.
July 21Jul 21 Read an interview somewhere with I think Pitt where he commented how different this movie was to make, because they were generally allowed one take during an actual F1 race. There was no way to go back and repeat.

July 23Jul 23 I thought it was very good. Whatever F1 announcer y'all were complaining about I agree - while watching I thought the guy commentating over the first F1 race Pitt was in fucking ruined the entire scene. Really poor direction imo. Agree that it didn't feel loud enough but maybe that's a theater by theater thing. It's blatantly too long but I will take it I guess as these are the movies we need more of. I need an excuse to go see movies in theaters because I still enjoy it and that's exactly what this is. I feel like this dude gets it (just cut the fucking runtime - stuff like this should be 125-130 minutes max). Anyone complaining about the story or simplicity or acting or screenwriting or cheesiness or whatever exhibits the exact type of pretentious dickheadedness that attempted to kill this industry. Sometimes I just want to go zone the fuck out and be spoonfed surrealism and dissasociation for a couple hours.
July 25Jul 25 I remembered several of the tracks used from playing gran turismo 7. I was like, this looks familiar.
July 26Jul 26 This movie was a 10/10 for me. I’m not even a gearhead and I loved this one. The soundtrack from Hans Zimmer killed it. The racing scenes were intense and actually made me feel like a fan. Javier Bardem is still great. Brad Pitt was so freaking fun. My father was a lifelong gearhead who began working on Mercedes back in the mid-50’s in war torn West Germany at age 9. This movie would’ve been right up his alley. If you don’t like watching this you might want to just stop watching movies altogether. Lewis Hamilton is right and that they need to wait a good long while before doing anymore F1 movies. Let this one get all the accolades it deserves and build on it when the time is right. Just a beautifully done movie in every single facet.

Like I said earlier, yeah, there are some things they got wrong, but no deal-breakers. It was a good flick. Is it Grand Prix or Le Mans? No, but imho nobody will ever do it that well again, which is crazy when you consider the era in which those movies were shot and the challenges they faced getting onboard shots. They remind me of 2001 vs modern sci-fi movies.

I love seeing movies in the theater, but people fucking talking out loud or looking at their fucking phones during the movie are just a beating. They can eabod and diaf, and the world will be a better place. Seriously. No doubt these are the same people that park shitty at HEB when it's open, then leave their cart sitting in a parking space when they leave. The prices suck, but if they got rid of the inconsiderate assholes, I'd pay even more. July 31Jul 31 F1 with the Dolby audio was epic. I don’t know where you guys are going with all the audience interruptions. People on their phones can happen and I’ve experienced some talking (especially during horror movies) but it’s been pretty rare. My theater of choice is AMC Clear Fork in Fort Worth which might be part of it. Newer theaters are so loud - it would be hard to hear someone talking. Not to mention there is a decent amount of spaces between the rows. The theater experience for me and my family has always been something we love. I’ll pay the costs - keep the doors open. Bring back the boutique theater experience as well.

August 2Aug 2 Finally got seeing to swing this...man, I was pretty surprised by how much I didn't like it. I went in expecting an incredibly shot, paint-by-numbers, popcorn movie about one of my favorite sports. Instead it was Brad Pitt and a Lewis Hamilton stand-in mucking it up and exploiting some cheap, grey area bullshit over and over and over again that would have got them suspended for the rest of the season, or stabbed. The only time they raced anyone wheel-to-wheel, they spun out or crashed. On purpose or by accident? I completely lost track and the desire to care. I think Pitt finished only 4 of 9 races, 3 of them in a montage. I actually think it would have been a bit better if it was cheesier and completely unrealistic. Edited August 2Aug 2 by aggie08

August 22Aug 22 Just watched it at home. I bet this was stunning in IMAX. However, I think Ford vs Ferrari was a better racing movie. But then Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles were real and the story was based on actual events. I consider this a reinterpretation of Grand Prix. I was entertained, but not blown away.
