And you can see why Clase was always throwing his first pitch into the dirt, it's the only way to be certain.

I was watching another game, but I’d be interested in seeing the scorecard on that one.

Overall agree though, any help on shit like that will be a start. At some point I wonder if they go so far as to put pitchcom in an ear piece that tells them what to call. Or something like the automated box on a game summary image, on a video board somewhere that shows each pitch. Still have someone at the plate, and they still run/call the rest of the game as usual, just no ball/strike decisions.

CJN was trying hard.

Pawol missed 13 calls in her debut, the average MLB umpire misses 11 per game. It was a very respectable debut and when you consider the gravity of the situation even more so IMO. We have had 413 games this season where an umpire has missed 14 or more ball/strike calls.…

Fuck it, give her the chance. I mean Angel Hermandez?????

She was 91% on the day. Not good, not terrible.

Lol at "the gravity of the situation". Nothing says pressure like an August game between two non-playoff teams.

Regardless, why they are finding women to call games instead of just implementing the automated system is beyond me.

Here's her card:

That problem preceded her by a decade  or so...

Zero problem with female officials in football or baseball.  Separate issue: get B&S correct with available technology.

Bet you a dollar that you can't name who leads all NL rookies in WAR...

Hint:

Spoiler

He's 5'8" and was a minor league Rule 5 pick from the Rockies before 2023.

Padres go up 1-0 on the Giants in the top of the 6th.  Yu vs Webb and I'm listening to Jon Miller on the app.  Not a bad way to wind down for the night.

Ohtani #42 on the season.

#100 at Anaheim Stadium

Ohtani goes yard and his team loses in Anaheim.

We've seen this show many times.

He wasn’t allowed to call timeout and his emergency swing was legendary

Ohtani getting himself involved in more wacky shenanigans.

He thought he was buying all the islands,  not one. Damn right you walk away.

Taylor Ward is 2nd in the AL with 88 RBI.  I can't wait to see who overpays him when he hits free agency.  He seems like a Bill Schmidt guy.

Ohtani just hit into a triple play!

It would be dumb with Ohtani at bat, but a shame runners weren’t in motion for a chance at the 6U triple play.

After the Mets’ 6th homer of the night, Citi Field announced they’ve run out of fireworks 🤣

I’d watch if this was the journey.
