José Alvarado was suspended 80 games by MLB after testing positive for exogenous Testosterone. He will not be eligible for the postseason if the Phillies are in it.

Let’s circle back here. I don’t think that was an accident; someone needs to explain to Slorch what erogenous is.

Breaking up the old guys. First Barnes, now...

he’s been sliding for a couple of seasons.  It was time.

Manfred has a lot of shitty ideas, but damn if some of his ideas aren’t saving the game.

How is it saving the game to have all the highly attended games on one weekend? Do you understand how attendance works?

Do you understand how the dipshit you quoted works?

Baseball Seeks an Answer to a 150-Year-Old Question: What Is a Swing?

In a bid to settle the unending argument over when exactly a batter has swung at a pitch, MLB is launching a replay program in the minor leagues to adjudicate on checked swings

Now baseball is trying to settle the debate once and for all. On Tuesday, MLB will launch a pilot program in the minor leagues of a replay system for check swings, the term used to describe when a hitter begins to swing but then stops partway through. The test, which will take place in the Single-A Florida State League, is an effort to inject a degree of objectivity into the murkiest calls umpires have to make.

The new rule will work similarly to the automated strike zone that was auditioned during spring training this year and uses the same technology. Teams will have the ability to ask a computer to determine whether a hitter swung or not. If the head of the bat is ahead of the knob on the end by more than 45 degrees, the pitch will be deemed a strike.

Just gonna say I don't necessarily agree with that definition.  The head doesn't have to be ahead of the knob for the batter to have offered at the pitch.

I think you’re an Astros poster so I’ll grant you that you’re a recent fan to the game. I imagine you think a “swing” means the batter flinches even slightly at a pitch coming. But anyone that played for a while knows if the wrists “break” forward while swinging, that’s when you’ve officially offered at that pitch. I agree that the easiest way to define that is bat head in front of bat knob.

Thank you for mansplaining fucking baseball.  Nothing you said discounts what my point is, which has zero to do with the batter's wrists, nor does MLB's stance.

as far as your Astros comment, since JR Richard, you front running dork.

The current standard seems closer to parallel with the front of the plate.  45 degrees seems wild to me.  That would be closer to that old Koufax video Beau posted awhile back where as long as the bat didn't hit your shoulder on the follow through it was no swing.

I am seriously so happy to see how badly the orioles have crashed and burned. At this point they would need to become the first team in MLB history that was at least 15 games under .500 at any point in the season to make the playoffs. I’ve been calling it for 2 years, this board and that Virginia dork talked so much shit to me about it, and now look who was right. They’re no different than the Padres/Mets/Marlins/White Sox in recent years, teams with lots of “exciting young players” and a bright future that end up amounting to less than nothing. Adley Rutschman in particular is fucking terrible, and at 27 it looks like the ship has sailed. You cant build through prospects and drafting, you need to spend. The Astros had one of the highest payrolls in baseball during their “run” that every shitty franchise is trying to mimic. Maybe if the O’s change their left field wall for the 3rd time in 3 years things will improve.

I seriously think that if MLB wants to boost balls in place and reduce strikeouts, they should to go back to this version of the checked swing rule:

Wonder how many times LAD has been their night game already this season? Feels like about 30. I definitely know their depth chart.

And last night was the Snakes' feed, flipped tonight.

lol. They missed completely on back to back #1 overall picks. They had a high payroll throughout their winning seasons, and they still only won their first WS entirely through cheating.

Also the best team of the past decade is the dodgers.
