Whoops.

Quote

The Reds announced that infielder Jeimer Candelario has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment. He had been on a rehab assignment but the club has decided against adding him back to their active roster. The move drops their 40-man roster count from 39 to 38.

The Reds signed Candelario to a three-year, $45MM deal heading into last year and that pact will now go down as a big bust. He did hit 20 home runs last year but with a low batting average and on-base percentage. His .225/.279/.429 line translated to a wRC+ of 87, with poor defensive grades to boot. Here in 2025, it’s been even worse. Thanks to poor health, he has only played 22 games with a dismal .113/.198/.213 line. FanGraphs has credited him as being one win worse than replacement level since signing with the Reds.

In 119 plate appearances since returning from the injured list, Ronald Acuña Jr. is hitting .408/.513/.735 with nine home runs and 16 RBIs in 28 games. Anyone wondering how he’d come back from his second ACL tear, the answer is: majestically.

And J-Rod finally went deep for the first time since May 27.

the Twins, especially their pitching, is in an absolute free fall. 3-14 in their last 17 with a -67 run differential (outscored by an average of 8-4 over that stretch)

Former Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black, who turns 68 on June 30, could be rejoining the Rockies just a month after being dismissed as manager after eight seasons. Black is a strong candidate to rejoin the Rockies as a pitching director or special assistant

Corbin Carroll has been diagnosed with a “chip fracture” in his left wrist, manager Torey Lovullo told D-Backs’ postgame host Todd Walsh (h/t to Jody Jackson). It’s unclear how long he’ll be out of action or whether there’s any consideration of surgery. Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic had reported shortly before Lovullo’s announcement that the D-Backs would place Carroll on the injured list tomorrow. According to Piecoro, Jake McCarthy will be recalled from Triple-A Reno to take his spot on the roster.

It’s the latest hit to an Arizona team that has been battered by injuries. In this month alone, they’ve lost Corbin Burnes and top relievers A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez to season-ending elbow surgeries. Starting catcher Gabriel Moreno went down with a broken index finger last week. They’ll now be without one of their top two hitters for what seems likely to be at least a few weeks.

he must have spurted too quickly.

Seriously? MLB orgs could not care less about the W-L record of their affiliates. It’s only about player development.

Of course, but when every team is in last place, something tells me player development isn’t going all that well.

Eh... there's a lot of hindsight factored into this point of view.

There's a lot to be said for being able to hire a personal trainer and manage nutrition very early in one's career to accelerate development and maximize earning potential.  Tatis got all those benefits at someone else's expense.

He sold equity in his potential earnings to an investor.  If he gets injured or flames out early in his career, that investor has to eat the loss.  He signs a $340M deal and everybody wins.

I'm a Tatis Jr fan, but I have very little sympathy for him here.   He has an AAV of around $24M. Between his agent and BLA, they probably take around $2M each, leaving him with around $20M before taxes per year for the next ten years.  Cry me a river.

There's an old saying in finance -- "no one sells equity in an actual gold mine."  Well, Tatis did, and this is why you don't.

I'm actually wondering if BLA has grounds for a lawsuit related to his PED suspension, and if not, if they're putting that into the new contracts they write.

chase burns k’s the side in his mlb debut vs the yankees.

jazz gets a single, but burnes k’s the side again in the 2nd.

1-2-3 inning on 8 pitches for ol' Dick Lovelady.

Rafael Montero counters with the same on 7 pitches.

Rockies go up 2-0 early on the Dodgers.  But then the go Rockies.  5 run 4th (so far) for LA.

corbin carroll updates provided by torey lovullo over a ~72 hour period:

“he's fine.”

“he’s going to be back very soon.”

“he’s available to pinch hit.”

”we’re gonna let him play in spurts.”

”he’s on the 10 day IL, retroactive to june 20th.”

”he’s out until after the all star break.”

this shit ^^^ happens way too often.

edit: literally as i’m typing this:

so, if i’m following this correctly, corbin carroll is likely scheduled to have his hand amputated around midnight tonight.
