Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper stood nose to nose with Rob Manfred during a meeting between the Major League Baseball commissioner and the team last week, telling him to "get the f--- out of our clubhouse" if Manfred wanted to talk about the potential implementation of a salary cap, sources familiar with the meeting told ESPN on Monday.

The confrontation came in a meeting -- one of the 30 that Manfred conducts annually in an effort to improve his relations with every team's players -- that lasted more than an hour. While Manfred never explicitly said the words "salary cap," sources said, the discussion about the game's economics raised the ire of Harper, one of MLB's most influential players and a two-time National League MVP.

Quiet for the majority of the meeting, Harper, sitting in a chair and holding a bat, eventually grew frustrated and said if MLB were to propose a cap and hold firm to it, players "are not scared to lose 162 games," sources in the meeting told ESPN. Harper stood up, walked toward the middle of the room, faced up to Manfred and said: "If you want to speak about that, you can get the f--- out of our clubhouse."

Manfred, sources said, responded that he was "not going to get the f--- out of here," saying it was important to talk about threats to MLB's business and ways to grow the game.

Before the situation further intensified, veteran outfielder Nick Castellanos tried to defuse the tension, saying: "I have more questions." The meeting continued, and Harper and Manfred eventually shook hands, sources said, though Harper declined to answer phone calls from Manfred the next day.

BREAKING: Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of MLB's sports-betting investigation, sources tell ESPN.

Clase is the second Guardians pitcher on leave tied to the investigation, joining right-hander Luis Ortiz.

I will say again that allowing betting on individual pitches (especially, or any other individual performance) is just begging for bullshit to happen.

The MLBPA has to be furious about this.

George Springer just got beaned .. 96mph fastball squarely in the left ear hole.  Down for several minutes before getting up with assistance and went straight to the locker room.  Definitely dazed.  Hope he’s OK.

Yeah,  most seasons, but 84 was by far the best. Losing Ryno hurts more than any player to date. Amazing talent,  got Ryno in a package deal with Bowa. If im going back in time, its not to witness major altering events, its the 84 season, with mom and dad, my brother and a Cubs game.

It was dunston, rhyno, and Dawson in that cubs order all summer for years.

In Honduras. It was all we could get.

RIP Ryan. You were magic at that position.

As Cubs fans going up every summer from 89-94 we would stay at the same hotel in Houston with the Cubs. Got to meet Ryno, Dawson, Grace, Dunston, Harry and others every year. He was always nice and willing to sign autos and really never heard anyone that didn’t like him.

Sad day that seemed to be coming.

Him and Rickey gone.  Couple of favorites.  Cubs were the favorite team (WGN) so this one stings a bit extra.  Was amazing in community here too.

I probably watched every Cubs game in 1984.  19 triples, 19 homers, 32 (?) SB, .314.   What a season, just completely out of nowhere...

every person should goto a cubs day game.  pregame at murphys (great chicago dog). it's right behind the cf entrance. goto the game. drink beer, eat a brat dog. hope the cubs win, sing the song. then go hit the bars, maybe find a deep dish

this and walking around augusta national are 1.A and 1.B sporting experiences for me
