March 22Mar 22 Whoever ends up being the coach, I just hope they convince Weaver to stay in Austin. Along with, you know, actually being a consistent tournament contender. Edited March 22Mar 22 by MuellerHorn
March 23Mar 23 yeah i’m really hopeful (and optimistic) that weaver is set to return. i want to see him creating havoc in what should be a much more up-and-down style of play.
March 23Mar 23 I just want miller to get a few three point shooters so we can enjoy some high scoring games. Can’t wait for the portal to open up and see how this team is assembled. Keep weaver is step one.
March 24Mar 24 I love Weaver. I also think keeping Pope, Pryor, Codie and Vinson are solid depth if they are all fired up to stay and improve. Then get a decent Freshman or two, and hit the portal hard for some guys that should be in the mix to start.
March 24Mar 24 So, optimistically with next years class designation G - Kendall Weaver (Sr.) G - Jordan Pope (Sr.) F - Devon Pryor (Jr.) G - Nic Codie (Soph?) F - Jamie Vinson (Soph?) G - Malik Presley (Jr?) PF - John Clark - Signed 4 Star Xavier's potential transfers (no clue on how likely) G - Dailyn Swaine (Jr.) G - Ryan Conwell (Sr.) Xavier commits PG - Nyk Lewis - Signed 4 Star SG - Jayden Forsythe - Signed 3 Star Maybe some other Texas recruiting that I'm not tapped into as I stopped paying attention for the last 2 years.
March 24Mar 24 I'm excited about what Miller can do. I don't think as highly of him as I did Beard, but he's a better offensive coach than Beard, he's a really good recruiter, he'll bring players from overseas, and he has some huckster in him to go out there and sell tickets, which is an underappreciated (and frankly I wish an unnecessary) part of the job. He also wanted the job badly, reaching out after Beard was fired and then this time around. I hope we catch lightning in a bottle, but even if we don't, he's someone who can deliver consistent second weekend tournament finishes over the rest of his career. I'd love to see him make his first Final Four at Texas. I doubt I ever completely get over the Beard debacle, but this helps me get over the Rodney Terry debacle, which IMO was always going to end one way. I'm also extraordinarily grateful we didn't have to endure 6 years of Terry the way we did Shaka Smart. I'm also grateful for all of Terry's contributions to Texas basketball, which have not been small. He got Peter Principled through no fault of his own. I hope he socked away some of those big paychecks over the last couple of years. He's a solid assistant that would be a bonus to just about any bench in college basketball. Let's see what Miller comes up with for his first roster, but it's his second year I'm looking forward to even more. Strange we've gone from the Big 12 which was the best basketball conference in the country, to the SEC, which is now way more of a gauntlet than the Big 12 was, and the Big 12 was a meat grinder. And we now see Beard and Barnes on a regular basis. Kind of weird.

March 24Mar 24 Gerry OTF has learned that Sean Miller and and at least a couple of current staff members of his have begun the recruiting process. We can say that their have been calls made to the agents of Jordan Pope, Chendall Weaver and Nic Codie. That doesn't mean that's all, to be clear. And that doesn't mean that the three are staying, it just means initial discussions have began. And Miller/staff have spoken with their signees at Xavier, and agents of Ryan Conwell and Dailyn Swain.

March 25Mar 25 Gerry mentioned this morning he’s heard rumblings that Archie Miller may resign from his head coaching position at Rhode Island to join the Texas staff. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archie_Miller_(basketball)

March 25Mar 25 Press Conference: https://watch.longhornnetwork.com/live/282272?showInterstitial=false
March 25Mar 25 I don't know shit about fuck, and he was probably about 4th or 5th on my wish list, but I feel pretty good about the direction of the program after watching his intro press conference.
March 26Mar 26 I don't really want Pope back but I also hated Marcus Carr his first season at Texas and then he became one of my favorite Longhorns ever. I'd kill for Mark back.

Agreed about the press conference - pretty polished, articulate, and he showed respect to Xavier, Terry, all Texas past coaches, etc... even recounted all the times he's gone against Texas. Made a joke about the 2011 Texas-Arizona NCAA tourney game with the infamous 5 second call (was 3.8 seconds!!!) that cost Texas the game; he called it the best call of all time while grinning, ha!

Interesting, I was gonna say I thought he was a tad better than Sark's first presser but didn't want to turn it into Sark vs. Sean. I think Sark has gotten a lot better at press conferences now that he's relaxed. I remember his first press conference (during covid) being more about him sticking to talking points. Honestly I had the same feeling about listening to both of them, though = not really knowing much about them beforehand but liking their pressers and feeling pretty hopeful.

Well, that's a fair point, I wasn't going back to Sark's first conference, just his current weekly talks. Honestly, I was so surprised we hired Sark at the time I didn't really give him much of a chance.

Bruising rebounder. G - Nyk Lewis, 6'1, 190 - #55 National Player. #7 PG in 2025 class Conwell has played for 3 different teams, so I assume he would move again. Lassina was a transfer and expected to start for Xavier as their best rebounder and defender before he got hurt in the summer. He would be a nice add. I expect that Vinson and Codie will both improve a lot over the next year. They both have talent. But overall, we could stand to add a solid center.

March 26Mar 26 I thought the press conference was great. For Texas fans that didn't know him or his history, he touched on quite a bit and his ties to all things Texas. Kind of odd our little history against Xavier. Penders bounced them in the Sweet 16 back in 1990 as a 10 vs 6. They returned the favor against Barnes in a 3 vs 7 matchup in the 2004 Sweet 16. That game stung and isn't talked about much. Terry besting them in a 2 vs 3 Sweet 16 matchup in 2023. This year with the 11 vs 11 play-in game. Another Miller meeting with the committee handing us maybe our worst March Madness seed and the refs handing us maybe our worst defeat in the second round of the 2011 tourney. We squeaked by a very tough Oakland draw in the 4 vs 13 matchup. Draw Arizona as the 5 who went on to pummel Duke in the Sweet 16 and lose to eventual champ UCONN in the Elite 8 with Kemba Walker. A team we had already seen that year if I remember correctly.

That roster seems like it would get it handed to them in the SEC, but then again Texas' current roster would have been skull-fucked if not for Tre. Ive heard rumblings about Texas increasing its NIL, lets hope so.
March 26Mar 26 Ogden and Haith meeting with Miller Time later this week, per Gerry. I’d love to keep Ogden as the GM.
