Fair, but Tech is also spending a shit ton on football.  Good for them I guess. I would rather they run the Big 12 than anybody else.

The fuck is wrong with you?! They’re not running shit, and I’d pick almost every other team to run the Big 12 before Tech. The only one I’d pick Tech over is Baylor. Tech fans are beyond obnoxious, they’re anct like total pieces of shit ant any Sporting event, and they’re the ones who ran to mommy and daddy in the legislature to try to force UT to keep playing them every year. I don’t care how much money they have, they can wallow in mediocrity and anonymity in the Big 12 for the rest of time.

Once again, this was a situation in where the top 5-10 in the sport just were not going to leave. They have their programs rolling and at a high level already. Those coaches get whatever they want fro

You sound like a pussy

Full disclosure, I grew up in the panhandle. My parents and in-laws went to Tech. I went to summer school there. I have a nephew that is a student assistant on the football team. My daughter will likely go there.  So I have a soft spot for them. Bless their retarded hearts.

And if I'm honest, their basketball program has done more with less than Texas over the last 20 years. Their current coach looks like the real deal and they are starting to throw real money into the program.

I don't see how anyone could support TCU, Houston, or Baylor over Tech.  Especially TCU. I don't think I have ever met an alumni from that school that I like.  KU is insufferable. F them too.  F K-State as well while we are at it.  F Colorado for leaving the Big 12 originally.

ISU and Okie Lite are ok. And I don't even consider the other Western schools part of the Big 12 yet.

Tech is harmless.  The Tech grads I know are ok for the most part. We generally owned them. And I always have enjoyed them punking aggy.

One of their primary money guys is trying to fuck with Texas through legislature. Fuck those pussies.

I'm kind of the same way except flipped. My family was mostly made up of Longhorn fans but after we moved to West TX and I grew up out there and went to Tech, the rest is history. But I will always have a spot for UT in my heart, I still have pictures of myself as a toddler in Longhorn gear etc, it's just not where my heart of hearts is.

I have a soft spot for Tech because i went there for 2 years before transferring to UT.

Tech is doing what they need to do to be relevant because they feel they should always be in the same conference as Texas and A&M. If that’s the thing that finally gets tech to thro buku bucks at sports and finally act like a real athletic department, then how can any non-tech fan be mad at that? I’d rather have tech have success than A&M because tech fans won’t be dicks about it.

So my message to tech is this:

It's not an either/or situation, I want them both to suck.

I don't understand why any Texas fan gives a shit about Tech either way.

The only time I really “cared” was when they claimed we agreed to play them after we left, despite there not being an agreement. Like they tried to bully us into one that didn’t exist

i’m not mad at that, but the truth is- and i think i speak for most of us here- i never really cared about tech one way or another for the longest time, until they got so loud and obsessive that i had no choice but to take notice and start to gaf. at first it was just like, “byron hanspard doesn’t go to class lol”, and “mike leach is hilarious”. but then at some point the TTU hatred for Texas- which has always existed (my mom also went to TTU before graduating from UT and has told me about it from back in the 70’s)- reached a boiling point where they somehow became even more loud and obnoxious than aggies, especially after the aggies were no longer in our conference.

ive actually said and maintained for years that the absolute best and most hostile environment in college football is a Texas @ TTU game at night. i dont think any fan base gets more jacked up for a game than that fan base does for a night game against Texas. they essentially stepped right into the void that the aggies left behind, and at that point i think we all accepted that and started looking at them the same way that we always looked at aggies- just a loud, obnoxious, obsessed fan base with a glaring little brother complex.

I don't think @Derka is off base, but at this point we're not in the same conference and we will never play them except when pushed together in the post-season.

Put it this way:  if they played A&m in any sport, I'd root for Tech.  Whether they win or lose in any other context is utterly irrelevant to me.

Houston over Tech is a pretty easy one for me.

I always felt that the description "classless clowns" fit their fanbase pretty well. They can be obnoxious, but not over the top generally.  And they usually have some humor about them. They are decent people in the panhandle and take the L when we give it to them.  Deep down they don't expect to win, so when we beat them they usually mope back to their cotton farm without much issue.

But I will say that few fanbases that we play regularly win worse than Tech.  They are horrible winners, from the old ladies in the stands down to the teenager college kids.  The worst.  It is like years of pent up frustration get let out when they win.  Now, when they beat aggy we get to enjoy watching it poured out on them.  (E.g. Marching the goal posts up into their stands led by Gap kid).

That said, aggies are aggies. There is no comparison.  Tech never got more obnoxious than aggies, because such a thing is not possible. Their stupid weirdo chants and fake army BS is just the worst.

I also think the rich kid schools (Baylor, TCU, SMU) are worse, but not as bad as aggy obviously.  They don't expect to beat us in sports, but they have such a general sense of spoiled rich kid superiority that I just don't like many of their alumni.  And if they happen to win, then their trash talk is so smarmy and arrogant.

Really? Same conferences 4EVAR.  In the Elite 8 competing for many of the same players. Another D1 TX public institution. Honestly we have more in common with them as we do SEC Bros. Fuck aggy.

I've worked with TCU alums. Nice people, no complaints. Dated a Tech girl who was cool. Baylor people are universally incredibly boring and get really self righteous about their athletic program. Brutal hangs. Don't know any UH alums.

Online, UH and Tech fans radiate sad sweaty angry desperation. Not a fan at all.

They're all obviously better than A&M except maybe Baylor.

Every Tech grad I’ve ever met is partially retarded.

spending money on a premier coach >>>>>>>>>>> over spending money on mercenary players. whatever we spend on players during coach miller’s tenure will ultimately be way more than what we would have had to spend to get a tier 1 HC, and if miller doesn’t live up to barnes and beard (which is the most likely outcome) then we’ve spent tens of millions one rent-a-players with no real forward progress for our program.

also i don’t want to hear that miller was the best we could get, because that’s just not true. first off, we’re Texas; this is CDC. we absolutely could have money whipped a tier one coach if that’s what we wanted to do. we didn’t. i’ve spoken to people and they’ve said that miller was always CDC’s guy, that we had zeroed in on him long ago and didn’t really look at anyone else. that’s why the reports of “the donors are willing to spend big” ultimately were true- we just didn’t spend big on the coach, we’re spending it on guys who will be longhorns for five months and have a minuscule impact on the program as a whole. this is the first time i’m questioning a CDC hire. for now i have to trust that he knows what he’s doing, because he got his guy. but the formula here is backwards- you drop huge bread on the coach, not the players.

I mean I know not to start this, but you are off base on some of your assumptions and especially that we didn’t look at anyone except Miller.

i’m not assuming that, i was told that, by multiple people who i trust. cdc wanted miller before RT’s interim team reached the elite 8 and we were forced to retain him. this time around cdc got his man.

also, if you want to presume to have the high ground, then don’t start your post off talking shit to/about me. just say whatever you have to say like an adult, and save the shit talk for when it’s warranted. i know you probably can’t wrap your head around this, but you’re the asshole here.

Tell me you don't understand how badly Tech boards suck, and they have always sucked.

This is just the best place to discuss many topics, both athletics and non-athletics included, and has been for a long fucking time.

As far as any validation seeking, that captures the whole Texas basketball pursuit in a nutshell.

What about his other 3 seasons as a Barnes assistant, including the year we went to the Final Four?

They fired him two seasons after coaching that talented team he inherited from the previous coach. That's how bad he sucked.

LOL at using his time at Missouri, where they quickly canned his ass, as evidence he's a good coach.

He did well with an inherited team before suffering one of the worst upsets in NCAA tournament history at the time.

Then he lost again in the first round before securing an NIT bid and getting fired just 3 years in

Yeah man you got me. What a masterful coaching job he did at Missouri!

well i know it’s tough to keep up with your own statements, but the screenshot wasn’t posted as evidence of him being a good coach, it was posted to refute your uneducated, asinine claim that he was the worst coach in college basketball history.

so you say some completely stupid, uneducated, and indefensible bs yesterday, and when the unanimous response from the board to that statement is, “uh, not even close”, you just come back the next day thumping your chest about how right you are, not even remembering what you’ve even said in the first place. that’s great stuff motown, really. you’re just an awesome driver of earnest hoops conversations here. great stuff, as always.
