November 25Nov 25 Early returns not looking great but we’ll need to wait to see how this team looks at the end of the season. I don’t like the somewhat obvious coaching failures in this game but maybe Miller will get those figured out as well.
November 25Nov 25 Not going to draw too manhy judgements on the play this year, especially during this time of the year, but this loss was really unfortunate for our tourney prospects. Up 10 with 5 minutes to go and lost the lead before the 2:30 mark.
November 25Nov 25 Early returns not looking great but we’ll need to wait to see how this team looks at the end of the season. I don’t like the somewhat obvious coaching failures in this game but maybe Miller will get those figured out as well. As someone that only caught about 25 minute of the game, can you elaborate a bit? I am thinking you mean coaching this group of players. (I hope you do not mean figure out coaching in general, because he has been a head coach for over 20 years)
November 25Nov 25 The early roadmap to beat Texas is to press and trap our guards on defense and screen the fuck out of them on offense. When Traore is in the game just work it inside and get fouls. We don't have a guard who looks comfortable with the ball in his hands (except maybe Weav, who is more a small forward), which is a giant concern. Teams will double and muck it up with Vok (who needs to tamp down the emotions at times) and live or die by our guards outside shooting. Our front line is solid, though Traore looks like he is new to basketball about 85% of the time. Our guards are currently probably bottom 1/4 of the SEC level and need a lot of work. Gaping hole at PG is gonna be a problem all year.
November 25Nov 25 Miller may need a year to really turn the roster over. I feel like I like our adds better than the holdovers including Weaver - minus Traore I guess who has looked like it's his first time playing basketball both games. Mark seems like a lost fucking cause at this point. I don't even want to know what Texas is paying him for this season. I actually think this team will need Pope's shot-making I just wish he brought a little bit more to the table outside of that - granted he had a nice game on the glass and was pretty good on D. Swain is the bright-spot of the team so far and I liked what I saw from Heide. Wilcher is electric but he can't turn the ball over 5 fucking times. Vok has a good player inside of him he just isn't there yet and has a lot of rough possessions on O. There's a lot to figure out still. Need to kick the shit out of Chaminade tonight, get that Virginia game at home and see if we can't give UCONN a game before SEC play starts.

I mean when Texas started driving the paint in the second half a couple times for points or fouls, ASU makes the adjustment and draws a charge. Maybe the players just aren’t executing Miller’s plays. I really like our team but we have no PG and no reliable SG. It’s like having 12 guys who would be the 6th man on a really good team.

November 25Nov 25 For only the shortest of spans should Swain ever be out of the game. And he should at least touch the ball in most halfcourt sets.

Well for one thing he has a higher career winning percentage than Chris Beard in and out of conference. He’s also been to 4 elite eights and 4 sweet sixteens. The same number as Rick Barnes in 19 fewer years of coaching. In short, he’s as good as any coach we’ve ever had at Texas in terms of accomplishments. We weren’t getting a more accomplished coach. Let the man do his thing. Edited November 25Nov 25 by ClubWhatever

There was no one higher that Miller that was coming. Oats wasn’t leaving Alabama. TJ wasn’t leaving Iowa State. I’m not sure who you realistically thought we were getting. Miller has a huge upside. It was game 6 of his 1st year here.

November 25Nov 25 miller was probably the best we could get, but that doesn’t make him an exciting hire. he would have been an exciting hire 10 years ago, back when he looked like one of the best coaches in america, but ever since he got busted cheating and the playing field was leveled re: paying players he’s been good-not-great. pretty much all of his success came 10+ years ago when he was cheating, and he’s made it out of the first round once since 2017. his last six teams at arizona finished ranked 19, 18, 28, 94, 19, and 29 in kenpom. his xavier teams finished ranked 15, 56, and 43. that’s one top 15 finish in almost a decade. he’s beaten his preseason kenpom rating 3 times in 9 tries since 2015. yeah, when you use his entire career resume to paint a picture of who he is he looks pretty good. but if you focus on the last decade then there’s really nothing there that says that we should expect him to equal or surpass the levels of barnes and beard at Texas. i’ve always felt that he’s going to be better than shaka and RT, but that he’ll ultimately disappointingly short of reaching any new heights, or even matching old ones. November 25Nov 25 Well, my DVR timed out so I (fortunately?) missed the last minute. I don't see it as a lost cause this season. I like the fact that we have a legit post player, we can hit layups (except that one late, oof) and we play hard. The lack of a PG is glaring. But, we're big and can kinda shoot, so I'll hang up and listen.
November 25Nov 25 we cannot shoot. national ranks: eFG%- 53% (123rd) 3p%- 30.6% (255th) ft%- 66.9 (282nd) we’ve got no pg, no shooters, and no honorable mention all conference caliber big men. we’ve got swain and a bunch of disjointed “meh”. we turn the ball over too easily (we rank 299th in non-stl TO%). we also don’t force TO’s (286th defensively in non-stl TO%, 280th in stl%). make no mistake about it: this is either a middling team (NIT bound) that’s off to a bad start, or a bad team that’s off to a bad start. this has not been an encouraging first six games. it’s going to be a long season. Wilcher seems like the new and bigger version of Weaver. I'd play him a lot, if we are going to take good with bad anyway.
November 26Nov 26 Are we gonna have a game thread for the fearsome D2 Chaminade Silverswords? What's the consolation prize for winning the loser's bracket? Dole pineapples?
November 26Nov 26 I'm so thrilled to have moved on from RT that I view this year's transition as a mulligan. We weren't winning anything with him coaching us again, and some of Miller's new guys are showing promise. Let's see what develops, but I'm hopeful so far.

November 26Nov 26 Just in case anyone is wondering WTF a silversword is, here ya go. A silversword is a rare, endangered plant native to Hawaii, named for its silvery, sword-shaped leaves. It is famous for its resilience in harsh, high-altitude volcanic environments
November 26Nov 26 Just now, Derka said: chaminade ahead 9-8 at the first media timeout. Our ball-handlers have been careless with the ball thus far. Kinda embarrassing, really.
November 26Nov 26 66% of chaminade’s points are off of turnovers. we turned it over as i typed that and chaminade immediately hit a three.
November 26Nov 26 pope really looks to get his own shot, which is good, because he’s a terrible shooter.
November 26Nov 26 We can't shoot from the perimeter, and we have no lob game. Just kind of scrap and try to gut it out.
November 26Nov 26 10 turnovers. this might be an episode of impractical jokers. im trying to spot the ear pieces on every single player on our team.
November 26Nov 26 It's almost like a scrimmage, but at least we're shooting a high % from around the court.

November 26Nov 26 these guys from chaminade aren’t bad offensively, they just offer zero resistance whatsoever on the other end.
November 26Nov 26 Chaminade has to play everybody because of the way they play, they are very streaky. They had a 20-point lead over Washington State in the first half, still led by 11 at the half. Second half they cool off, and Washington State takes a 17-point lead. Here comes Chaminade again and they make a game of it again but lose 90-85. They have no size and just run around, and press and hope teams turn it over and don't shoot well.
November 26Nov 26 This game is starting to remind me of the Gregory Gym intramural games. With a lot more dunking.
