July 4Jul 4 I think Visma might be a touch stronger than UAE. That said, it didn't matter in the Crit Du Dauphine. Tadej just took all their blows and accelerated on steepest climbs where Jonas couldn't match. I do think Jonas can stay within striking distance this year and pounce should Tadej have an unexpectedly bad day.
July 4Jul 4 Yep. Barring injury, the only way Tadej doesn't win it is if he pushes his limits one too many times or mismanages his food intake. Even then, he has the luxury of being able to make more mistakes than the other riders and still be able to make up lost time. I'm hoping to see some American stage wins this Tour. I think Neilson is the most likely due to team dynamics. Matteo and Sepp are certainly capable, but unless something happens to Jonas, I expect them to be working for the team. 7 hours ago, Knoxtnhorn said: Apologies for not contributing to this thread. I watch all the races; however, I'm usually behind by several days and don't want to see spoilers. No worries, you aren't the only one who does this.
July 5Jul 5 Watching the final 10k and Tadej riding along the breakaway like no big deal. Even pulling for a bit. Dude is incredible
July 6Jul 6 I liked seeing Jonas take some pulls at the front today to split the group in the crosswinds. Good stuff. Primoz may be a nice guy, but he totally lacks any killer instinct. Frankly, a dumb racer. Losing time on stage 1? Not great Bob.

July 6Jul 6 Not an ideal first two days for Remco. Already down ~45 seconds to Tadej and Jonas. I don't think he is a real threat to them but I'm sure had desire to stay much closer before the mountains. Edited July 6Jul 6 by Bodhi
July 6Jul 6 Remco at least woke up and was keeping with the likely 1-2 podium. Primoz continues to drift back with each acceleration. He’s not that guy, not this year.

July 7Jul 7 Assuming y'all are also watching on Peacock. Question. Does the race have to conclude before one can watch it from the beginning? The last two days, I've turned it on about halfway through the race but have been unable to start from the beginning OR rewind.

There’s also that nice ‘processing’ delay after the race has concluded before you can watch the replay (15 min or more). I’ve also had the issue where I’m watching it delayed, hit pause for a break and come back to have the telecast ended forcing me to wait for them to re-post it. The TNT/Max coverage is just so much better, and not just because of my crush on Orla. Better analysis in the studio and on the bike, the ability to ‘watch from start’ with stage in progress, a preview box as you fast forward. God I hate Peacock. The only positive is VdV on the bike. Worthless nothing input from Perino, dull and basic ‘analysis’ in the studio.

Back in the day, you could fast forward and see the race progressing, stop when something interesting happened like an attack or a crash, and watch the km counter until it reached 10k or so.
July 8Jul 8 What a hairy finish to that stage. MvDP just didn't have enough in the tank. Definitely curious to see how Pog goes next week, he didn't look so dominant today.
July 8Jul 8 Having watched most of the races this season, tadej often seems to lack a little explosiveness that he seemed to have prior as the season has gone on. He creates gaps and outlasts people. Maybe burning all those matches are catching up with him? He’s still got more fast twitch than JV, but I’ve been impressed how he’s been able to bring Tadej back. Could be shaping up to be a very fun Tour…
July 8Jul 8 Does anyone know if there is anything wrong with Sepp? Is it his job to shadow Primož or something? Saving him for the big mountain stages?

July 9Jul 9 I’ve not been impressed with Jonas this year he seems less aggressive and just kind of meh
July 10Jul 10 Big difference from the Dauphine TT to today. A month ago JV was the strongest. Not sure what happened today, but he better hope his climbing legs don’t fail him.
July 12Jul 12 As someone who rides 2 to 3 times a week, it is so fascinating to me how effortless these guys look at 35 to 40 miles an hour on the bike. I’d look like I’m having a heart attack at that level of power

July 13Jul 13 Can van der Poel keep this lead? 3.5 KM just passed, but I don't think he can do it now.

If he weren't already in yellow, then it might be a different story, but he can ride defensively, following wheels the rest of the Tour. UAE won't do that, of course, and will still plan attacks on the stages that suit him. There just won't be as many of those. Edited July 14Jul 14 by idigTexas
July 14Jul 14 Is Jonas just hanging around waiting until next week? He seems content to sit on Pog’s wheel. Edited July 14Jul 14 by Clintonaldo
July 14Jul 14 Time will tell but not sure Tadej or Jonas can drop one another this year. Matteo might be the most important rider for Visma. If he can narrow the time gap a bit, then Tadej may have to respond to attacks from both Matteo and Jonas. That said, if I'm Tadej I'm just riding Jonas's wheel and making Matteo prove he is a serious threat. Edited July 14Jul 14 by Bodhi
July 14Jul 14 He responded to all of Jorgenson's attacks today personally. Meanwhile let Remco go without a care. Tells you all you need to know.
July 14Jul 14 Certainly he and his team principal know far more than I do. I just question if trying to respond to Matteo and Jonas personally in the mountains is the smartest decision. We shall see.
July 14Jul 14 Oh, I don't know about that latter one knowing more than you. But I wasn't commenting on the wisdom if the decision as much as it's indicative of how Tadej is thinking about his various rivals strength.
July 14Jul 14 Are jackasses mooning the riders as they climb the hill a new thing? I believe I saw that 3 times on this last stage.
July 15Jul 15 Love that Ben Healey. Love EF too - great way to bounce back k from the loss of their leader right before the TDF. They’ve been more than animators. A little strange UAE let the yellow go - my guess is with the loss of two of their mountain dudes they didn’t want to spend matches today. Agreed that Jonas and Tadej look closer than ever, minus that TT performance.
