A driver involved in a traffic altercation followed the other driver into the drive-thru line at a Starbucks in Riverside, where he choked that driver before being stabbed by him, the Riverside Police Department said.

Both men survived the fight.

The confrontation happened Sunday, March 23, at about 4 p.m., said Officer Ryan Railsback, a Police Department spokesman.

It began when the victim changed lanes in front of the suspect, prompting the suspect to chase him and follow the victim into the drive-thru line of the coffee shop at 371 E. Alessandro Blvd., near Mission Grove Parkway, “where he exited his vehicle and confronted the victim while he was still inside his car, then began to choke him,” Railsback said.

The victim then grabbed a knife and stabbed the suspect in an arm, Railsback said. The suspect ran but was found hiding in a nearby trash bin enclosure.

Images photographed by freelance videographer ONSCENE.TV showed an older man with white hair, a brown-and-white mustache and white beard handcuffed before being loaded into an ambulance. A younger man with shaggy hair and a tuft of hair on his chin was also put in an ambulance.

Both were treated at a hospital, Railsback said. The suspect had surgery and was expected to be booked on suspicion of assault, he said.

A large number of blood spots were visible next to the drive-thru lane, and an officer interviewed an employee who wore a headset used to relay orders.

This is partly why I just installed dash cams in my truck and Mrs NNM’s car. The best insurance policy you can get.
