Four different Harris County sheriff’s deputies dead by suicide in the last six weeks

Featured Replies

Tragic, but the headline is misleading since only one of the victims was currently working for HCSO at the time of their death. That said, one life lost to suicide is one too many and I wish we placed a greater emphasis on mental health and funded the resources to address mental illness.

Four posts before this thread went off the rails.  New Surly record?

First of all, grow a pair. Second, not even close to a record.

I'd be interested to know how much training is involved/required/provided for Harris County Sherrif's deputies.

Whatever it is, it’s more than what’s involved to be a Harris County Constable.

I would bet that Harris County does offer mental health resources to their employees. It's difficult to force people to seek treatment especially if they're hiding it. You also have many people that ignore or refuse to see a doctor for physical issues as well.

also, even if you do seek treatment, we are in the infancy stages of taking mental healthcare seriously, and there’s not a worse place in america to be mentally ill and seeking help than in Texas.

Facts. It's bad out there. Pretty much anywhere in the South this is true and it ain't a whole lot better in the rest of the country.
