Y'all got any more of that payroll???

The Texas Rangers, who are under financial constraints, are hoping to clear a bit of payroll today to bring in help for their bullpen. They are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the third and final wild-card spot.

Can it be joc’s payroll that gets cleared, somehow?

Also gut feeling is we don't. Sborz coming back. See how Curvelo does.

But maybe.

The real addition would be submarining another team by saddling Joc there, were it possible.

Mariners? Red Sox? We'll through in some cool neon accessories for free!

The Rangers today announced that the club has traded RHP Codi Heuer to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations.

Clears a spot on the 40.

Orioles Ryan O'Hearn chatter.

Grant says besides the real reason (salary) is "Texas doesn't need another lefty hitter."

Um, yeah, I'm just going to have to disagree with you on that.

Do it. Give them Joc, Rowdy, the leftovers from Outback Steakhouse, some Six Flags coupons, a replica World Series ring (it's a memento for their 2023 too) and Bochy's metamucil.

Rangers acquire left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe in trade with Twins

The Texas Rangers are adding left-hander Danny Coulombe to their bullpen, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, who reported Thursday that the Rangers are acquiring the 35-year-old southpaw in a trade with the Minnesota Twins.

Coulombe was in his second stint with the Twins, who are trade deadline sellers this year. He's currently posting a stellar 1.16 ERA in 31 innings pitched across 40 outings.

Coulombe has been lights out the last 3 years (albeit in limited innings last year). Good pick up (as long as the return is reasonable).

He’s going to the Pads

Yep. 2.11 ERA since the start of the 2023 season. Lowest among all qualified relief pitchers in baseball.

With Maddux Magic, it'll go down. Season ERA to about 0.13. Book it.

Looking at his history, he's become incredible his last three years, which coincides not just to acquiring a cutter but making it his number one pitch.  Was a fastball/slider guy for a decade, average results, picked up a cutter, demoted the four seam, turned into lefty-Mariano.  (2022 outlier because of small sample)

DeGrom, Eovaldi, Him heading playoff rotation seems good.  Seems we don't want to lean too much on Rocker and Leiter at this point in their careers.

They’ll be able to spot start/long relieve in the playofffs.  Maybe Gray is on the bloc.

Rocker to the bullpen (for the rest of this season) on the table?

I bet they shut him down since he isn't far from TJ surgery.

Merrill Kelly is a Texas Ranger

Giving up both Drake and Bratt is a very high price for a rental.   Probably needed to go high on prospects so Arizona would pick up most of his salary.  Texas is very close to the cap limit.

Kelly, Couloumbe, Maton are good pickups.

Gonna try to win every game 1-0 I guess.

AJM posted today that the Rangers are 4th in MLB in runs since June 1st. Doesn’t feel that way but we are winning more.

rangers acquired shockingly effective middle reliever with reverse splits that built his numbers with the orioles without being a power pitcher?

Spoiler

maybe we won't leave him off the world series roster this time

Koji Uehara, former Texas Ranger, retires - Lone Star Ball

So Minny is basically paying Houston to take Correa's contract?

Is the pitcher HOU sent worth a shit?

Correa was owed $104mn and has a .705 OPS. MN is paying 1/3 of the remainder. Salary dump for the most part.

Neat additions. Nice committee of bullpen arms. Even if one of them doesn't  grab that legit closer role and kick ass with it, gives them a deep group of quality dudes. I still don't see Garcia lasting as a pure man dawg closer, though his last couple of outings looked good.

Starters give them the opportunity to mix and match sort of a 6-man thing where they can give the older guys managing issues some extra rest days when needed. It will be interesting to see where Rocker and Leiter end up fitting in the next few weeks. It is possible both could stay up, but that's a lot of arms to manage on the roster.

Both of those dudes could be fantastic out of the pen.

I feel like they'll ride Kumar until he turns into a complete disaster. His upside has been high and I'd like to see him get some innings out of the pen.
