Atluve swings at and hits pitches he shouldn't.  Analytics will always have a problem dealing with guys like him because he is an anomaly.  I would like to see what Vlad Guerrero's expected numbers were because he was probably even more extreme.

I think Yainer could be the answer at 1B when we give up on Walker if the other guy gets ready. Like- maybe 2027 Yainer moves to 1B most days and back up catcher for 40 or 50.
I think there's a ton of talent in Yainers bat and I think it comes out- but maybe not. I don't mean 750 ops- that's pretty much a guarantee to my way of thinking- I mean 850 or 900 and knocking on the door of MVP if he does that at catcher.  Like- Pena type year this year.

I remember back in the day Richie Zisk playing in left field for the ChiSox and basically playing straight away and turning his back to the centerfielder, Chet Lemon. Any ball at him or towards the left field line was Richie's and ANYTHING else was Chet Lemon's ball.

Would suggest that, but then what do they do with Altuve, or Jordan, or Walker, or........

The guy I want to see with expected numbers is Ralph Garr.

Ralph was a career .306 hitter, but I don't ever recall him hitting a strike.

Didn’t see this posted on Pena.

hopefully this is the reason for his “lucky” numbers, meaning it will stick.

I don't see any particular reason the open stance would help his actual numbers overperform his expected numbers- unless the point of that is to hit more pull side flyballs then, maybe?  I think he went from an average hitter to an above average hitter this year, and I think he did it from controlling the strike zone.  I think he's had good fortune that makes his "above average" hitting look elite- but maybe he's learned some sort of hack like Paredes and Altuve where we should expect that going forward.

Note- it's pretty unusual for someone to always and consistently outperform their expected stats. Pena's expected stats are good. The actual are great. Hopefully they don't converge too much.

I wish Ron Washington the best and hope it's not serious, but they are probably more likely to win tonight without him.

Ford: so Washington is taking time off from the dugout  due to health reasons to keep his stress level down. But that’s gotta be pretty stressful watching from a suite, don’t you think?

sparks: he probably has his cup on.

Wash: he just said not in the dugout

My dad had a friend who drank too much and his doctor told him to cut back.  So he switched to tall boys.

Asked if he had to talk to rookie starter Hunter Brown about the Yankee Stadium environment, Dusty Baker said: "No, he's from Detroit. I don't know no punks out of Detroit. All the dudes I played with out of Detroit are some cool, borderline gangsters."

Trout has seen 16 pitches tonight.

and swung at 1 of them

I mean 12 of them were balls but still an interesting/odd stat.

clearly in the gameplan to not let him beat you tonight

which probably means Abreu is going to give up a gopher ball against him in the 8th…

Not a fan of pulling Brown after 5 and 87 pitches.

Well. Another great move by our fearless leader going to the pen to start the inning and not letting Brown get another batter or 2 or 3.

Hey Joe, I saw an open seat against Ron earlier

That's two fucking strikes. Totally changed that at bat

Ford started off the game talking about good this guy is and how he was 1 pitch away from calling a perfect game in Houston earlier this year.

They’ve since commented regularly about how he’s been absolute garbage tonight.
