I’m glad France is getting some work.. and I know you can’t baby these guys forever but after this season and injuries —and Garcia— I’m inclined to just say “see you in ‘26.”

…but I also love a 3+ inning save….

The lack of Yordan on there might have had me wondering if he retired on opening day.

Carlos Correa: "I want to apologize to the fans in Houston for falling short. It's not what they're accustomed to. They're used to watching playoff baseball and they look forward to that every single year. It's a beautiful time of the year in Houston. We were not able to accomplish that this year, but we promise our fans in Houston this offseason is going to be one of a lot of hard work. We're all going to get better. Next year will be one to remember."

I'd say there's no way we made it to the penultimate game of the season before being eliminated.

Astros manager Joe Espada addressed the team after the game. “That’s the meeting, that’s the conversation you don’t want to have with your team.”

Jose Altuve played through some foot pain in the final week or so and said he will be seen by doctors. As far as the finality of the season, he said: “We couldn't really make it happen. I guess that’s baseball. One thing I can tell you is everybody here gave everything they had…

This team was on pace for 100 wins after sweeping the dodgers. The injury bug really showed itself in July but Dana made 3 good trades at the deadline to make the lineup have the potential of being credible every day. They didn’t hit. When they should have been able to. They always pitched even with arms going down by the shitload.
joe Espada is a paint chip eating moron that I hope we’ve seen the last of.
Dana Brown can stay I have no problem with him.

Nightmare season is finally over. Amazing that we were still in playoff contention until Game 161, considering:

Blanco started in 9 games before needing TJ, Garcia got 2, Wesneski got 6, Walter got 9. Arrighetti avoided TJ by missing most of the season due to a freak accident during BP. The Ghost of Cristian Javier didn't start a game until mid-August. We had to give 15 starts to a JAG named Colton Gordon. Framber pitched like an ace until late July then  went 2-7 in his final 11 starts, with the team losing 9 of those games.

Our all-star closer's shoulder spontaneously exploded just in time to miss the final 30 games.

Meyers' calf exploded, wiping out 2 months of a career-best year.

Paredes' hamstring exploded, wiping out 2 months of an all-star year.

Pena's multiple injuries cumulatively cost him almost 40 games in a career-best year.

Yordan basically missed the entire season aside from the 2 1/2 weeks preceding his ankle injury. It's abundantly obvious now that he was physically incapable of swinging a bat with any oomph during those first 30 games of the season.

Due to a lack of OF depth, Cam was rushed into an everyday starter role despite having ~30 games as a professional and never playing anything even remotely close to 162 game season.

Christian Walker led the team in HR and RBI despite waiting until the the final series of the season before registering a positive WAR (0.1). Yainer was our 3rd highest run producer despite becoming the worst pitch-chaser in MLB and seeing his OPS drop below .700.

Over 700 AB's went to has-beens and never-weres (Hummel, Rodgers, Trammell, Chas...etc) or guys not ready for the show (Brice, Melton). Of the few fill-ins that performed above replacement level, one didn't make it past May before season-ending injury (Dezenzo) and one didn't even appear until Game 148 (Cole).

^^^

That's somehow the condensed version. I've got more!

Alex Bregman chose not to sign with the Astros.

And that's OK.

It's highly likely that Joe Espada is back next season, but if he isn't, who do you want to manage this team?

This is some bad roster construction

Eight players on the Astros’ season-opening payroll made at least $10 million. According to Baseball-Reference, they combined for 6.6 WAR. Framber Valdez is responsible for 3.9 of it. Two of the other seven ended the season on the IL - https://t.co/MyH600z5uU

On top of bringing in a new training staff, we may want to hire some sports psychologists and maybe a witch doctor/exorcist to remove whatever curse fell upon on MMP/Daikin post '22.

We started this season 32-14 in the friendly confines of downtown Houston, then went 14-21. 3rd straight year where we struggled at home late in the year (including the infamous 4 home losses in the '23 ALCS and getting swept out of the wild card last year). Despite having an overall winning record at home, we ended up a with a significantly negative run differential.

Doesn't help that Walker was a completely different player on the road (.772 OPS, 18 HR) vs home (.623 OPS, 8 HR)

The Angels starting pitcher is the first pitcher and 2nd player in mlb history to be born in Italy.

That made me wonder what happened to Longhorn Matteo Bocchi.  The latest I see on him was that he pitched in high A in the Cubs org in 2021

LMJ does many things, but “eat innings” is not one of them.
