@immamac , why do you hate tapa so much over the years? Do you really have to write a lot of code these days? I was a super admin of a site years ago and it seemed fairly streamlined but again I wasn’t an owner. Tapa has its limitations but it’s an easy read on forums.

Its because their team sucks. I can't fix their shit and its basically unsupported from them.

The same shit. Twitter just takes over the page. Can’t go back, can’t leave the page and comeback. When we didn’t have Twitter embeds this wasn’t a problem. Now that they are back, it just takes over. Any page with a Twitter embed turns Into the stupid platform. Twitter shit

I hate this behavior too. Also now my iPad is blocked or something. Phone still works but iPad has this crap on it.

Same. Had to go back in history to find a page that loaded. Same thing happened on my PC earlier today.

http redirect moved further up to the actual proxy where it should have been all along. that will fix this error - it's happening because we use a secure cookie that is only able to be issued with https, when you pass the bot test and are http it tries to give you an https only cookie but can't, hence the cookies not enabled error.

Rather than making it less secure I opted to just not allow any http traffic at all to the servers, everything is just upgraded to https.

is Tapa officially dead or do we need to just access from a laptop/PC right now? Vague question, I know…😄

FWIW as a long time Tapa advocate, I switched to App Mode in Safari on my iphone and ipad with this site change and I'm now totally fine with it.

Yeah, I put this in the other thread too:

Unread Content seems to have stopped working in the last few hours for me on all browsers

This is working now. Reindexing seemed to do the trick

please try now. are you doing it on ios or android? I think the ios one will be much harder.

worked! I was on an iphone. I finally switched to an iphone from a droid after 10+ years, it's been good and bad...

Not sure if it's my phone or what, but it's been happening a lot. When I go to reply to a thread, it just shuts tapa down. Every time. I've installed any updates, but keeps happening.

I’m still getting that Twitter redirect problem.

I’m getting that anime girl notice bot thing in addition to the Twitter stuff constantly creating its own page where I can’t hit the back button to go back to the thread.

Fixed for me now.. thanks!

Pretty much the same time as last night, streams are borked again. They were working most of the day while the blue banner was up, but off again as soon as it’s done.

I've been messing with the proxy so it probably is borking because of that.

When I use the search function at the bottom of the Surly app, it produces a list of applicable posts just fine. But when I click on a particular post, it takes me to a random page within the thread I was performing a search on. So I hit the back button, and click the same post again, and it then takes me to the next page in that thread. And so on. And so on.

Don’t click the body of the search result, that takes you to your last unread in that thread. That’s also why the next time takes you to the next page, because it thinks you’ve read the last. Instead, click the thread title in the search result or the date/time of the specific post, that should take you to the right one.

just refresh and it's fine. how often are you getting the bot check it shouldn't be very often?

iOS/Safari

I see it pop up any time I've closed my phone for more than about 10 minutes, regardless of page. Pops up, goes away, everything's fine. Never notice it after that, until I go away and come back.

well there's a cookie and that doesn't expire for 7d so IDK what to tell you.

Oh, it doesn't bother me. Just letting you know what I've seen. It might be 2 seconds total, and not a big deal at all.

Then iOS isn’t using it because I see it on both iPad and iPhone all day long every time I fire them up

the missing format issue requires me to kill the app to clear and even that doesn’t always work. I’ve yet to see refresh solve it

again, there's a literal technical implementation of how it works. That's not how it works. It works with a cookie, if you have the cookie you skip the challenge and go to the site.

If you are seeing it all the time you are clearing the cookie or it's expiring prematurely, but it's not a server side (my) problem. It's a you problem.

Just like the fucking embeds are not actually my problem, but I'm fixing it anyway because I hate twitter embeds and how they work.

Interestingly I’m never logging out and that’s presumably driven by the same cookie, yeah?

I’ve gotten it several times today and I think yesterday. Kind of amusing.

different cookies. I'm not sure why your device doesn't work and it's not a 3rd party cookie. It's an https cookie and that's how it works. Maybe try clearing everything and trying again including logging out.

if you use incognito mode you'll always get it on a new session. Sessions are also sticky in our setup so if you have gone to one server you will stay with that server via cookie as well.

I've had it happen multiple times today where I open a new comment to type and it has something saved that I already posted. Also getting a lot of hangs when I click submit.
