"Coaches change jobs for a lot of different reasons. Coaches change jobs to get a better job, just like players change schools to get a better job. … That happens. That’s not a problem,” Greenberg stated.“I’m going to use Buzz Williams as an example. He hasn’t talked to his athletic director in a year. In 1 year, he hasn’t talked to his athletic director. That relationship, once your relationship … deteriorates, it’s a win-win for the school, the coach, and the program. That’s just the way it is.”

I've worked for a small number of great managers, and a whole bunch of "eh" managers.

Trev sounds like he's as bad as one could imagine.

I don't know how someone can follow A&M athletics and think, "Man, they really have some wizards they're bringing in as athletic director over there. Just one after another." They all seem like imbeciles on one level or another to me. Yet here they are, at LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama. Talk about failing upwards.

Trev Alberts literally left his job at his alma mater to come to A&M. Did he really take this job with the express purpose of being a hatchet man? Because that's what it seems like. All his moves seem so Steve Patterson-ish.

I assumed his schtick when covering college football was designed to generate some level of controversy and emotional investment through hating on the guy. It worked for me. I couldn't stand him and did a personal celebration when he changed careers. Now I'm thinking he's just genuinely an asshole, and what I saw on TV was his real personality.

It appears to me that he was brought in by former state comptroller John Sharp to cut costs, Trev has stated that is his goal.  Gee, I wonder why aggy would need to do that?

Yeah, I'm with you. I didn't properly emphasize what I meant. It seems obvious he was told to cut costs, and that's what he's doing.

What I don't understand is, was that the sales pitch they used to hire him away from Nebraska? That just seems like such a dumb career move. But I don't understand how badly he wanted to get out of Nebraska, either. I wonder if he was sold a bill of goods on how much resources A&M had available to compete, but by the time he took the job, the job description changed to one of austerity. I don't have any inside scoop. It just seems crazy to leave a pretty cush job, with the opportunity to go someplace with a better budget on down the road, to take a job where you're going to have to slash costs to the bone because of a stupid extension a previous AD decided was a brilliant plan.

Got ya.  Hard to tell, but maybe they were not thrilled with him?  He does seem like a dolt, but being a former player usually mitigates that.  Maybe he just noted that aggy AD is a springboard to better jobs.

He seems like a complete asshat. It would be hard to root for him anywhere else, but at A&M I think he's doing a terrific job,and deserves a lifetime contract. I consider myself a Trev Alberts fanboy at this stage of his career.

This is an aggy misery thread. You grammar lawdogs need your own forum.

We need LESS grammar takes

Or, we could have fewer illiterate posts.
Just another option.

We should create a new board called “Anal Content” where the grammar police can critique our posts and not sidetrack discussions with Stannis gifs. Ironically 1/3 of my posts are done while I’m dropping a load.

Pee in her butt forum is that away

The conventional wisdom, rumors, or whatever was that Alberts was brought on board with a primary goal of cutting costs.

He is serving in is 2nd year of a 5-year, $11mm totally guaranteed contract.  For many people, that would be "if I can survive 5 years, I can either go to bigger and better things - or retire."  Perhaps that's where he is.

The outcome of cost cutting remains to be seen, as 2024 saw the largest expenditures in Texas A&M athletics department history: $243.7 million at 25% increase over 2023.  Only 60% or so of that increase was the payment to Jimbo.

It's a lot more difficult these days to find the data (5 years ago, it was the first or 2nd hit when doing a google search).  Here's what I was able to deduce from and article on 247.

I found revenue summaries from FY22-FY24 on The Eagle (behind paywall)
