April 2Apr 2 Whoa. Didn't even know he was sick. 65 is young, but I recall he looked very bloated and unhealthy in his later years which made his Doc Holliday rendition, ironically, look downright fit.
April 2Apr 2 Popular Post he looked terrible for the last few years so I can't say I'm surprised. I will die on the hill that his performance as Doc Holliday is as good as any actor has ever done any role.

The documentary he made about his career and cancer journey is worth watching. Apparently though he survived the cancer (albeit without the ability to talk afterwards), it was pneumonia that got him.
April 2Apr 2 He had so many good roles, The Salton Sea is underrated. He had throat cancer but evidently he had beat it and died of pneumonia. RIP

Nobody's gonna call you "Doc"

I remember the jokes about getting throat cancer and oral sex from years gone by that I think were Val related. 65 is still too young.

I just read this thought which I didn't know either (and maybe it was covered in the documentary, but I doubt a ton of people have seen it); Quote Val Kilmer’s Christian Science beliefs significantly impacted his initial treatment choices when he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. As a devout Christian Scientist, Kilmer initially rejected conventional medical treatments, believing that prayer and spiritual healing would be sufficient. He referred to his illness as the “suggestion of throat cancer,” reflecting the belief that illness is a misperception rather than a physical reality. However, his children, who did not share his faith, were deeply concerned about his health. Their fears played a crucial role in convincing Kilmer to seek traditional medical care. Eventually, Kilmer underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
April 2Apr 2 Goddamnit. He’s one of my favorites. His list of movies is long and distinguished. Gonna have to rewatch some of them starting with Real Genius. It’s a moral imperative.

April 2Apr 2 I really had a thing for 1990'a Mira Sorvino. Enough to go watch her hook up with Blind Val Kilmer. Nothing memorable about that movie for Val but that was the last time I think i saw movie with him in it until Maverick. Don't forget Heat. That was a banger.

April 2Apr 2 The guy was great in everything I saw him in. Some of the films were shit, but not because of his acting. RIP
April 2Apr 2 I loved so many of his movies growing up. I wore out VHS tapes of Real Genius. Top gun, willow and tombstone. This one sucks. Rip.
April 2Apr 2 Always been a huge fan of Val, even though he seemed like he could be more of an asshole than the typical actor. His recent documentary showed a much softer empathetic side of him. He’s always Chris Knight to me. Still one of my most quoted films.

April 2Apr 2 Damn. So many great movies where he was either the star like Real Genius and Top Secret to great supporting roles where his presence was felt like Tombstone and Heat. RIP.
April 2Apr 2 I remember the first time I saw Real Genius and thinking this dude has presence. His portray as Doc in Tombstone should have been an automatic Oscar. Fight me on that. Reading many comments from film critics and those covering the film industry this morning and they are saying the same thing. I really like this story: https://x.com/jennifertilly/status/1907307175413993867?s=46&t=wR1WsslZNubrCBLx8_7YLQ That describes his acting approach to a T.
April 2Apr 2 RIP. Been a fan since the initial one two punch of seeing him in Real Genius and Top Secret.
