17 year old stabbed to death by another 17 year old at Frisco track meet

The chest plate ain't nothing to fuck with. Always go between the 5th and 7th rib straight to the fourth ventricle.

Instant and painless, or so I'm told by the Internet and it never lies.

My main takeaway from this thread?

Law school must suck even more than I ever could have imagined.

But most law students are probably more like Brisket and Twice, not chainsaw.  I'd wager its 1000 typical attorneys to every one chainsaw that somehow aces an LSAT.

I think time for everyone to just start ignoring chainsaw.  He's either a troll or a complete moron.  Either way, waste of everyone's time.

No man, he's just asking questions.

Well, that's kind of fucking depressing.  I don't want my attorney bitching and moaning on a chatroom all damn day.....;)

So much of a lawdog's daily work is tedious and/or mindless.  It demands some kind of break or you'll go insane.

Relevant Dominique Alexander (Dallas Activist)

  • Identity: Dominique Alexander is a community activist and founder of the Next Generation Action Network in Dallas, Texas, known for organizing protests against police violence.
  • Background: Alexander gained prominence for leading demonstrations in Dallas, including after the 2014 Ferguson decision regarding Michael Brown’s death and the 2016 Alton Sterling shooting. His activism focused on racial justice and police reform.

  • Criminal History: Alexander has a criminal record, including a 2011 felony conviction for injury to a child (shaking a 2-year-old, causing severe harm), for which he received probation. He was sentenced to two years in prison in 2016 for probation violations, including leaving the state without permission. He also faced charges for theft, evading arrest, and forging a check.

  • Domestic Violence Allegations: In 2019, Alexander was arrested and indicted on a felony charge of continuous violence against the family after his partner, Keyaira Saunders, alleged he assaulted her. Saunders later signed an affidavit stating she did not want to pursue the case, claiming no physical harm occurred, but the indictment proceeded.

Shaking a baby enough to cause severe harm, receives probation.   Theft, fraud, spousal violence, and still out making a living out of outrage.  Our systems have been very unfair to him, obviously.

Yikes on that shaking a baby thing.

Also, why in the world is Karmelo's family hiring a political activist and race activism guy/firm unless they feel like it's a strategic advantage somehow?

Maybe to turn away from the boring facts and turn it into a national spectacle is what the skepticism tells me.

Thus the rampant alcoholism and depression in the legal profession.

“a disrespect to the dignity of his son."

of note, when asked to leave, he did not stab anyone.

That's fucked up. Like, really fucked up.

Grift knows no racial, ethnic, or economic boundaries unfortunately.  He's going to suck these poor parents dry, Karmelo is going to get basically the same sentencing he would otherwise, and this jackass is on to the next victim

Wow, Karmelo is being treated with a hero's welcome which is interesting, considering what seems to be reported as facts. Maybe there is substantial facts we don't know yet that shows he's the real victim.

That's more or less what it would take, yes.

From what I have read about knife fighting, trying to stab someone through the heart through the rib cage is a very low-percentage deal.  The ridbs and sternum are highly likely to deflect the blade or cause it to get hung up.

For that reason, the military teaches going under the rib cage for the lungs, liver, spleen and maybe heart, or even trying for other arteries like the carotid, femoral or brachial.  That's partly due to body armor and other military gear can make it even more difficult to "stab the heart," but it's difficult either way.

So, unless Melo was a trained knife fighter, he was pretty extraordinarily unlucky to deliver a fatal stab.  That factoid is probably not going to help him any, though.

Shocked Derka didn't post that.

I’m shocked that any adult would post that. Or that any self respecting adult would ever have something like that show up in their algorithm.

Frisco PD posted about it on FB but didn’t give any details. Didn’t take long for someone to figure out what it was about.
Also, one of the Metcalf’s houses was swatted this afternoon. Don’t know which parent.

Also, one of the Metcalf’s houses was swatted this afternoon. Don’t know which parent.

A “swatting” call was made Thursday to an address involving the family of the Frisco teenager who was fatally stabbed at a track meet earlier this month, police confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.

The swatting occurred hours after Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, was barred from attending a news conference where the parents of Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old teenager who is facing a murder charge in connection to the stabbing, spoke publiclyabout the case for the first time.

This topic reads like the perfect script for Spy vs. Spy.  Michael Riedel would be proud.

It seems to be getting nastier according to my mostly white and a lot of Frisco Facebook feed. With the swatting and then this was celebrated (sharing for awareness NOT an endorsement):

Figured it was Dad’s house because the location was in the Frisco High School area.

No, family of 17-year-old stabbing suspect Karmelo Anthony did not buy house, car with donated funds | Snopes.com

Quote

Anthony's family has a legitimate donation page on Christian fundraising site GiveSendGo, which has raised nearly $500,000 as of this writing — but they have not withdrawn any money from this fundraiser, a fact stated by the family and confirmed via an email to Snopes by GiveSendGo co-founder Jacob Wells. Furthermore, allegations that the family bought a new home or car are not supported by credible evidence. Thus, we rate this claim false.

Raises hand.  To that end, one thing I have read among the literature on the subject is that those that go to law school tend to be idealistic in one respect or another.  Some think they're going to be great civil rights lawyers, or child advocates, or prosecutors, or defense attorneys, or advocates for the injured.  And, well they may.  But before they ever become great crusaders for rights or whatever, they spend years drafting and responding to discovery, reviewing document discovery, and summarizing depositions and making depo cuts for trials.  And working 3000 hours a year to bill 2200.  They burn out before they get there.

Or, a more practical idealism:  they enjoy competing on ideas, prevailing on a motion, a trial, an appeal, when they're in the right, or should be.  Or filing a patent on the worlds greatest invention and getting it granted, to be litigated and result in industry wide injunctions and huge damage awards.

And, even if any of that actually happens (which it does for most), it is months and years between victories.  Because everything takes so damn long.  And lots of scut work in between.  And then asshole clients, or clients with asshole objectives.  Liars and dissemblers everywhere.  Bad facts.  Stupid judges.  Asshole opponents.

Most law students have experienced some degree of academic success, where the reward for the work comes on a semester-long time frame, at the longest.  That's one of the shorter time-frames for reward in the legal profession.  Double or triple or quadruple that for many or most things.

The money isn't all its cracked up to be, either for the vast majority of lawyers.

And some of the more cynical might say (Jonathan Harr/Jan Schlichtmann/Civil Action) that that idealism and desire to succeed/win comes from a place that covers up feelings of inadequacy or inferiority.

It can be quite the toxic stew.

This isn’t true.

If the victim was stabbed by a White kid named Conner or Ethan, this thread wouldn’t have nearly has many posts and definitely not 1000 replies in 15 days.

The one thing this case has absolutely confirmed, above all else, is the number number of vultures ready to pounce on the cultural "race wars" in this country and the adage a fool and their money are soon to part.

One teenage kid stabs another at a track event killing him. Were race variances not involved it's likely a minor story.

But before the funeral the internet has taken up arms and sides.

The parents of the alleged assailant starts a gofundme.

Because "race wars" idiots are fleeced by the parents to the tune of half a million dollars.

So as not to have the foolish funders look dumber than themselves the parents align to criminal that is running his own grift.

Mean while the internet has the racist white idiots jumping on the opportunity to promote their bullshit cause and I'm guessing also fleacing idiots of their money.

At the same time, the father of the victim is swatted for showing up to the social media circus put on by the parents of the accused, no doubt prompted to do so by their own flimflam man whose likely charging them ridiculous sums to come up with this strategy.

While all this is occurring right here are Surly someone is actually questioning whether or not stabbing someone with a knife qualifies as "intent to do serious bodily harm".

It would be comical if it weren't so common, predictable and based in such a sad event... and all the while..

A young man is dead and he is the lowest priority of discussion in this entire mess.

It's kind of amusing that certain people on the thread are indulging and repeating every factual rumor while shitting on people discussing the "known facts," and discussing potential legal ramifications on those facts and how more information might influence them.

I suppose it was inevitable, as foretold by the opening racially tinged tweetthing Derka posted, that this would devolve into a racial shitshow.

Correct but they will allocate funds for basic living expensesas well:

While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses. The funds raised will also support a range of urgent and necessary needs that have emerged as a result of this situation, including — but not limited to — the safe relocation of the Anthony family due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and other security measures.
