April 7Apr 7 Is there a director on earth who can get that much talent for a film? This reminds me that I never saw Asteroid City. Understand it wasn't great but still need to see it.
April 7Apr 7 Author Well Jason Schwartzman, the Wilson brothers, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, and Edward Norton aren't in it. So yeah, "some".

April 8Apr 8 Author This looks more like Asteroid City or Grand Budapest Hotel vs. French Dispatch which was a collection of stories.

April 9Apr 9 Other than Bottle Rocket and the Royal Tenenbaums, I get the feeling someone is reading a book to me when I watch his films.

April 14Apr 14 I didn't get through French Dispatch or Asteroid City, and I've loved most of Anderson's work. I think he's losing his balance between formalism and actual emotional content as far as engaging his audience. Viewing the movies as experimental film, one could definitely argue there's an importance to Anderson's work. Moonrise Kingdom and the Grand Budapest Hotel are both excellent. They both have real relationships amid the self-conscious style. His work since then has disappointed me. I've also not been a fan of his animated work, but that could just be a RomaVicta thing as animation in general must be very good to interest me. Maybe like black and white movies for anyone under 40. I'll surely give this movie a try. It appears that the relationship between del Toro and the nun could match those between the bell hop and Ralph Fiennes or any number of relationships in Moonrise Kingdom. For reference, Rushmore is one of my favorite movies. Bottle Rocket is a gem that I didn't like much the first viewing but, remarkably, enjoyed it more and more with each subsequent viewing. The Life Aquatic actually brought tears to my eyes as he completely nailed the mind of a boy back when Jacques Cousteau was known to everyone. The last shot in the submarine just got to me. Just some observations.

May 23May 23 A critic at Cannes hated it. I'm guessing it's going to be my favorite Wes Anderson film yet.
May 23May 23 That critic is seeing what I'm seeing. Anderson is young. He can learn. Or he can rest on his impressive laurels.
May 23May 23 I've only seen Bottle Rocket. This looks like a stylistic reach. Is Kumar in this? I like Kumar.

Fantastic Mr. Fox fantastic. Just watched it last night. Isle of Dogs a little less so, but still top notch.
May 23May 23 I thought French Dispatch was awful and Asteroid City was only a little better. I was a big fan of everything before that. This trailer looks like a mess to me, unfortunately so the review doesn’t shock me.
May 23May 23 Only two beefs with Wes: 1) Moonrise Kingdom 2) Not sure I like how he treats non-animation dogs (Moonrise/Royal). I would love for Wes to pull a really low budget style flick that takes place in Dallas/Houston/Auston that's has the feel of Bottle Rocket and introduces some fun new actors. Shit, why not a movie about some young guys making a movie? Rushmore may be favorite movie of all time, and I love his style, but Bottle Rocket is like your first kiss.

I love that movie. I've only seen Isle of Dogs once and I remembered liking it. 29 minutes ago, 4th&Five said: I thought French Dispatch was awful and Asteroid City was only a little better. May 23May 23 Asteroid City was too pretentious for most audiences, and while I enjoyed it for what it was, I wouldn't call it one of his better movies. The quirky affect of his style didn't lend itself very well to the story, which at times dragged. I really hope this new movie is an improvement.
May 28May 28 Author Pretty cool if you're into physical media. https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/8208-the-wes-anderson-archive-ten-films-twenty-five-years
May 28May 28 Asteroid City has ScarJo titties. How could any sane person dislike that? Some missed casting opportunities because of Covid. Bill Murray was supposed to play the inn keeper. Steve Carrell was fine, but he didn’t add to the film. Otherwise, performances built around a very weird story. Improved on the French Dispatch. I hope Wes keeps cycling up in Phoenician. Grand Budapest feels like a very long time ago.
June 9Jun 9 Saw it this weekend. I guess I liked it, solid B+. A bit hard to follow with so many characters but it kinda wraps up nicely at the end. I've seen a handful of his movies now, and maybe because I'm getting older, but his shtick seems to get sillier and sillier. The sudden cuts and zany actions seem more cartoonish than ever. It did have some funny moments though, a good handful.
June 9Jun 9 i just dont think i'm a Wes Anderson 'fan'. Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, and RT were great and i still enjoy rewatches... everything since is just like 'eh? 🤨' for me. Grand Budapest was pretty good i guess. i am glad he got an Oscar finally🤘 i dunno...i've tried (also couldn't get thru Asteroid City or Isle of Dogs). think i'm just way more a Paul Thomas Anderson than Wes Anderson type lol

June 10Jun 10 I saw and enjoyed it. Loved the Myself I feel very safe, and the Hand grenade bit. Will say that I’m personally in the tank for both Wes and Paul Thomas as far as Anderson’s go

Also, before you answer, go google her new haircut. Woof.
June 12Jun 12 Saw it today but I can't give it a positive review. Felt the same way about his recent films. I think Anderson might be losing me. I consider Life Aquatic one of my top ten favorites and have enjoyed The Darjeeling Limited on repeated viewings, but the last few have lost me. Anderson reminds me of an aging rock act that had several fantastic albums early in his career. But his albums in the past ten years or so were quickly deleted from my playlist after one spin.

I am a huge Anderson stan. But thus, along with the recent, lack heart. The world is fine but when it has no teeth to lure you in you’re left cold.
