Not sure if it was Farmer still in RF on last play….. but RF wasnt even close to backing up 1st on the play….. probably get an out at home if he was breaking towards 1st instead of 2nd on the play…..o well!

With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 12th Georgia walks it off with a solo homer. Fifteen games deep into their first season in the SEC, Texas is now in first place alone at 13-2.

Ruger gutting out 114 pitches despite not having his good stuff was huge. He basically had to give us 6 innings for us to have any shot.

Gonna need Ruger to go long tomorrow and need minimal, if any, contribution from the pen

Oh well get em tomorrow and take the series

I can't find a box score but I recall only 6 or 7 hits...in 15 innings.  Thats bad.  We made the lefty, average velocity Kentucky relievers look like Tommy John.

Or our bats could do the hitting thing better

Season is over.

Losing our first SEC road game is a harbinger of dark times

Not sure what the bullpen even looks like tomorrow. Grubbs is spent. Surely they aren’t going to throw Volantis three days in a row considering how careful they’ve been with him. Maybe Dre can give you an inning or two?

We are likely going to need someone unexpected to get outs like Howard or Moffett again.

8 hits, 18k's    We are 4th worst in SEC with K's behind Ga, Ole Miss, and Mizzou.   As mentioned above,  need to put ball in play.

Well it wasn't like we were an offensive powerhouse last year either. And we struck out a shit ton last year as well. Probably not surprising we are having this problem.

Strikeouts are a part of this offense. Schloss has said he is willing to see more 2 strike counts in exchange for driving up pitch counts and walking more. I think our walk rate is quite a bit higher compared to last year.

There are tradeoffs. I would also say that Schloss’ teams moving forward aren’t going to have black holes in the 8 and 9 spots in the order collecting K’s left and right.

I recall a lot of HRs and not a lot of doubles in the gap.

Gus and Augie would approve of that bunt….and others from KY.  That little 5-ft bunt is worth as much as a swinging for the fence HR.  Schloss out coached today…..we need to bunt the ball instead of striking out 18 times.

But we dont bunt well.

Trying to bunt also cost them outs in the 8th and in the 11th that could have ended the game much earlier.

No disrespect to Gus or Augie but Kentucky runs a little league offense and that will remain true whether they win this series or not. It is not sustainable for long term success.

What if we didn’t bunt and we didn’t strike out 18 times? Giving away outs with bunts is definitely not the answer.

Currently, we have about 2 guys in our lineup that need to just bunt every time. There’s no way that outcome would be any worse than what they are doing.

I knew this team would blow it. They just don’t have any composure. Oh well there’s always next year.

Bunts have their place in the game.

Sure in 1 run or tie games late in the game. But the Augie and Gus style of baseball is and should be dead.

This is college baseball. The pitchers can’t throw strikes half the time and a ground ball to the third baseman is never automatic.

Routinely giving up outs has been analytically proven to lower win odds.

I don’t want to know how many runs we left out there the last two years watching Peyton Powell sac bunt in the 6th inning or earlier.

I was fully expecting to sweep every series the rest of the way like the rest of the group melting down we lost.

From what we all witnessed today, Blue can’t call it correctly half the time either.

Unfortunately those 2 guys cant bunt for piss…..

The rest of the season is just about getting to 18 SEC wins and adding depth to the bullpen. Burns had legit command of 3 pitches today which is very encouraging if he is able to take some of the load off of Grubbs and Volantis.

We are replacing Belyeu with Stewart/Jayden/Winfield…  Suffered a devastating injury at a spot where you couldn’t afford to have one. Belyeu and Gaspy are pretty much irreplaceable with what we currently have, Galvan is right behind them.

I know Jalin had a big 2 run HR today but he has to be better for this team. Galvan and Ethan are fighting their ass off at the top. Borba has stepped up and been really good offensively since Max went down. Sucks that Will has cooled but he is working through a lot between his approach and mechanics so I expect it. This team can’t have Jalin hitting .186 in conference play.

Watching KY dugout during the game reminded me of super spastic 12U fucktards.

Tough loss but zero approach at plate all day and multiple innings giving KY lead off walks/hits/HBP finally caught up to Texas.

Get the series win manana

Jalin seems much more boom or bust than last year at the plate. The gap doubles seems to occurring much less often for him.

2024 vs 2025 strikeout rate for our current position player group

Mendoza- 11% vs 18%

Galvan- 33% vs 30%

Rodriguez-N/A vs 17%

Schuessler- 17% vs 17%

Flores- 23% vs 25%

Farmer- 50% vs 38%

Borba- 31% vs 31%

Gasparino- 36% vs 27%

Stewart- N/A vs 37%

Winfield- 22% 46%

Duplantier- N/A vs 31%

Chamberlain- N/A vs 43%

There are 3 main guys (Farmer, Winfield, Borba) who are striking out at unacceptable rates relative to the power they provide.

Jalin belongs in that group. 36% K rate in 59 ABs. Just 5 walks, .250 OBP in conference play. That is futile

To me he seems about the same player as last year facing better pitching. Lots of swing and miss and struggling with good breaking balls. Defensive inconsistencies remain.

It’s going to be interesting to see what MLB teams think of him in July.

I legitimately thought Jalin could be a Melendez type power hitter after his freshman year.  He has regressed.

Our lineup is not very good and will keep us from winning a title this year. Pitching is good enough to win it all with a good lineup, but even with Belyeu coming back, we still have 1-2 holes in the lineup and a way too many Ks from our “good” hitters.  The whiff on Winfield really hurt us.

I guess I got a little caught up in the early-success and need to temper back the expectations to a successful year 1 being just making it to Omaha.

With a full offseason, the staff should be eying about 4 legitimate transfer bats to go with a decent starting base of Rodriguez, Borba, Mendoza and Gasparino.  Should get a couple impact freshman bats on campus with the way Schloss has been recruiting, so that will help with depth.  Pitching will not be an issue next year.

Describing our lineup as “not very good” is an insane statement not born out of reality. Even without Beyleu this is a high quality offense and probably the 4th best in conference at worst.

We appear to be ninth in conference runs scored.  Seems we could very well be worse than 4th.

You could probably get pretty good odds betting that the horns finish no higher than 9th in the SEC

Aren’t we currently tied for the lead in this conference?
