That Sunday rain graphic seems optimistic.

It'll be down to 5% in a couple days.

sWe've had some nice light sprinkles out here in West Texas most of the morning, but it's unfortunately starting to clear and I'll have to close all the windows before too long.

Really hoping we're done with the 90s, but I doubt it.

There you are my friend. Fall is happening.  On Wednesday

Out of curiosity I looked back and Fall '24 basically started a year ago today. First real cold front of the season rolled in on 10/16/24 and cooled things down to the 70's and 50's for a few days, but it reverted right back to Late Summer again the following week. Hit 90 for the final time that year on 10/26. Took several more weeks for it to get consistently cool. First 15 days of November were warmer than average.

I don't know where y'all are but in my Austin backyard, today has been bad ass.  Set up my office on the back table under the covered porch and it has been excellent.

Minor front rolling through tomorrow evening. Waking up Sunday should be a treat, but it won't last more than a day or two. High 80's for most of next week.

GFS is starting to envision our first legit front heading down from Canada sometime around the 28th. I'll start buying in if it still showing up in the models 4-5 days from now. 11 days out is just a crapshoot.

Mid to late October, that forecast is still asswater.

Just pretend like we’re all living in San Diego like right by Balboa Park, and the weather is consistent. Except it’s not you know, fantastic all the time.

Spent 24 hours in perfect weather in Minneapolis and had to come back to this shit.

Yesterday was pretty brutal. “Cold” front this morning has it feeling nice. But still no relief in sight in the 10 day.

We were camping this weekend, went to bed last night and it was in the low 70s, got up around 4am and it was in the mid/low 60s. Went back to sleep for a few hours.  It was glorious.

It wasn't glorious getting into town and getting a cell phone signal and seeing what transpired with Kentucky last night.

Where at?

Just took a booze snooze on the back porch under the pergola and it was lovely. Should still be cooler than this in mid October, but I’ll take it after yesterday.

Nicer today, but still a little too swamp assey for me this late in the month.

Played soccer this morning at 8am and it was glorious. Nice cool breeze. Zero humidity. We drank a few beers after just sitting in the grass and I was a little mad that I had to leave to get breakfast for the family.

I don't understand what I am seeing. Is it January?

Using my back patio as my office this morning - feels glorious for now

Per SCW, this has been the warmest first half of October ever, going by average high temp:

Quote

I crunched the numbers this morning, and the average high temperature so far this month, through Sunday, has been 91.3 degrees. If that sounds strikingly warm for October, well, it is. The normal high during the first three weeks of this month is about 85 degrees.

Just normal October weather in Colorado.

Yeah, it was so wet outside this morning at sunup in Houston you would have thought it had just finished raining. >90% humidity at 7 am. High of ~91 today is just 1-2 degrees shy of the record. Just not at all what Late October should feel like.

On the bright side, the rest of the extended forecast looks better than today:

What is this on my sunroof? Chemtrail residue? Seems suspicious.

A whole lot nicer this morning than yesterday's humidity bomb. Today and tomorrow looking tolerable, albeit still warmer than it should be.

Finally expected to get some much-needed rain this weekend before "Autumn" finally stumbles in a month late next Wednesday. Encouraging amount of highs around 80/lows in the high 50's from 10/29 through 11/5.

You better be right.  I'm holding you responsible if not.

It would be nice to have some fall-like weather for Christmas.

Just like the ones I used to know.

Only fitting, as I'm both in charge of producing all weather forecasts in TX and run the computer models on which they're based.

Username checks out...on gameday, no less!

I'm giving serious thought to sitting outside sometime around 2 AM Wednesday just to feel the front finally rolling in. The last time I experienced a temperature below 60 was on a trip to Colorado back in late July. Locally, it was back in the early part of April. This is about as late as it ever gets in the year before the first legit front arrives. Well overdue.

Much-needed soaking yesterday, and it looks like this afternoon should be pretty nice once clouds clear and it starts to dry out.

Currently about 60 hours out from cold front arrival late Tuesday night. Gonna feel like a different season on Wednesday compared to Tuesday. One nice thing about this front is it looks more like a harbinger of larger pattern shift than a flash-in-the-pan that lasts 48 hours and then reverts right back to the same ol' shit.
