Did anyone else hear that explosion just now in North Austin?

10412 Double Spur is the address according to the fire chief.

EDIT: 24 homes damaged, 2 critical patients

TCAD says the home is in the name of a trust by "Marshall C. & Laverne Johnston".  A little digging indicates they were prominent botanists.  No idea if they lived in the home or if it was their heirs.

That doesn't mean they didn't have a propane tank.  We do, we also have no natural gas service on our street.

I'm about a quarter mile away. Had to reset a breaker. I was at the bottom on the hole when it happened (seriously). So doubters, suck it! (of course home is 100 miles away from hole, but hey, 183A toll to 29 now open).

Interesting...  My earlier message indicated I thought it was 10410.  That was based on photos from 10407.  Looks like 10412 blew up and took down 10410 with it.

the house was new construction, so it might not be on satellite or streetview

Yes.  10410 was new construction.  I walk past it multiple times per week.  I mistakenly thought it was the source of the explosion, not 10412, which was clarified by the fire chief.  Regardless, crappy for all involved.

Friend is a 911 operator, speculative calls coming in include it was a plane or a meteorite

Holy crap, I heard this all the way from Bee Cave.  It made me jump and the dogs started barking. I would have guessed it was no more than a mile away.   Maybe it was a modern day David Hahn?

Dude liked to party.

On September 27, 2016, at the age of 39,[15] Hahn died in his hometown of Shelby Charter Township, Michigan.[15][16] His death was ruled an accidental result of intoxication from the combined effects of alcohol, fentanyl, and diphenhydramine. The medical examiner's report indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.404 mg/dL.[17]

Glad you and your family are OK.  Scared the crap out of our family and we weren't in the blast zone.  I have a place just across spicewood springs from that area and walk your neighborhood all the time.

Not according to the fire chief, but I'm not gonna drive the neighborhood.

Glad you're OK, maybe the officials need to get their shit together on their official statements.

Were they storing Ammonium Nitrate in the garage?

We were in that area today on the way back to Houston, and saw this thread.

Shades of the Plano explosion a few years ago.

There was a house that blew up in Crestview a decade or so ago.

House could have been full of fertilizer and whatnot.

Are your kids going to be ok after such a traumatic experience?

Glad y’all are safe now.

I would like to point out that Brisket has still not denied any culpability in this.
