No one on Carolina has more than 9 points. I think it's obvious now why Mikko thought he would be happier here and I don't think it was about the money. May 12May 12 Author I've finally read an explanation on the Petrovic goal and why it was ultimately allowed: the league determined it was kicked (it wasn't) although it was not kicked toward the goal - the kick actually sent the puck away from the goal. But Helle tried to block it, and it ended up deflecting into the goal. Therefore it was technically an own goal. Lol Edited May 12May 12 by Longhorn_Fan68

May 12May 12 No such thing as an own goal in hockey so all the points still accrue. I still think it went off a Toronto skate too before helle swats it, which I think also would make it legal.

May 12May 12 Author The distinguishing trait here seems to be the fact that it was not headed towards the net after the kick, but only headed there after the WPG player(s) hit it into the net
May 12May 12 And I’m wrong about the points apparently. 78.4 own goal is credited to last offensive player to touch it but no assists awarded.

Lol 1) It was an intentional block with the skate to pass it to his onrushing teammate. 2) It was not a kick, no matter what those numb nuts said. 3) It was knock back towards the center of the ice, AWAY from the goal, but with the intention of entering the crease so that someone could knock it in. 4) The shitty goalie said… I’m going to clear that to the boards, but he sucked, so the puck went flying into the goal. 3 hours ago, Pato del Muerto said: No such thing as an own goal in hockey so all the points still accrue. There was no reason for the review to take longer than 60 seconds.
May 12May 12 Two separate motions. The 'kick' (yeah, if the puck had gone in directly off that skate-effort, I'm pretty sure it would have been wiped off), and Helly deliberately making an effort to play the puck (not 'deflected' as in 'casually hitting an unrelated object') and putting it into his own net. The puck never reaches the net but for the intentional act of the goalie. Good goal. Also, this is something you kvetch about when you lose 3-2 in overtime. When you check out and lose by an honest 5-2 (no empty-netters), you forfeit the right to complain. Personally, I think the whinging is an attempt to make Hellebuyck feel like it wasn't him this time. He's clearly a different player on the road.
May 12May 12 Agreed, post-game whining about that goal was a little over the top for a 5-2 game. Obviously I'm biased but I watched replays last night when I got home from game and it didn't seem particularly close to me. I know some reporting that Marchment won't face any discipline for his official shin tap, I guess we'll know for sure today, but that was idiotic. He doesn't get calls because he's got an absolute shit reputation with the officials and this is just going to make it worse. He's been incredibly quiet for 5 games now (unless he's doing something stupid). Needs to just stop bitching, start playing better and help the team. Edited May 12May 12 by Skipper

It appears that Petrovic was using his left skate to kick the puck back to his forehand, since he's a right-handed shot and had an impossible angle to shoot lefty there. The puck wasn't kicked in the direction of the goal. If nobody touched it, there's no chance it's going into the back of the net. It's also impossible to tell if another stick or skate makes contact with the puck before Helleybuyck pushed into his own net with his stick. That dude is a fucking hot mess on the road and I hope it continues tomorrow night.
May 12May 12 Already dreaming of winning in 5 so we wouldn’t be worn out for the next round. It’s a nice dream, doesn’t hurt nobody.
May 12May 12 As we saw Friday, Hellebuyck's performance pretty much dictates the game. Much like JS Giguerre, when he's at full power, it doesn't really matter how the other team plays because the puck isn't going in the net. The Stanley Cup is rife with goalies who, for the moment, were impenetrable. Frequently, it led to inflated contracts and disappointment later. I suppose, technically, Winnipeg has two more chances to try and steal back home ice. They've pretty much gotta think, though, that tomorrow is do or die. They also have to be completely mentally bollocksed up. Be ready to absorb pressure early (that's "absorb" - not "flail around the defensive zone while the Jets take shooting practice"), play loose and smart, and wait for the dam to burst.

I just went back and looked -- the McKinnon "own goal" in game 6 is credited as unassisted, but the Petro goal yesterday still has two assists attached to it (Mikko, Steel). Regardless, crying about a goal review in a 5-2 game is what loser teams do; if the roles were reversed, there is no way that Pete would be spending any time on this.

Can't remember who it was on the post-game but they felt like Arniel has kind of lost his cool fixating on that goal. Wondered if he might be trying to provide an excuse for his goalie's poor play. But, yes, not a chance DeBoer fixates on that despite what the cunthead Denver columnist might say.

I went back and looked at it, and he took a cross-ice pass from Necas, skated toward the goal, threw a centering pass that bounced off a bunch of Stars and went into the net. I don't always agree with how they award assists, but that seems like the way they do it would credit Necas.
May 12May 12 Author So when do we slot Miro back in and who comes out? There really isn't a good time to get a player back in the lineup after injury in the playoffs, but if we can manage to win tomorrow, I think you have to put him in for game 5 (assuming he's cleared). Got to start getting him reps and get him up to game speed. I think it would be difficult too to lift a d-man in his stead so it'll probably be a 7/11 alignment to start. I would normally say you take out Ceci or Lyubushkin, but that's 2/3 right-handed d-men in the lineup. Of the forwards, I think it's gotta be Blackwell, but he also hasn't played terribly. Some tough decisions for the coaching staff, but I have faith in them to get it as right as they can
May 12May 12 Author funny how few canadians understand hockey. not funny ha-ha, but funny nonetheless. I once had one their representatives tell me hockey should not exist below the mason-dixon line. at which point I asked him how long it's been since a canadian team won and he didn't know and shut the fuck up. lol. dildos, eh?

That way you can sort of let Miro get his feet wet and not put too much burden on him. 54 minutes ago, Pato del Muerto said: I want to say Montreal in 1993 with Roy? I wonder if they would just slot him in certain shifts with Lindell and Harley replacing Lyabushkin/Ceci and let Bischel/Petro continue to take 3rd D minutes. I think part of the reason that third D pair have exceeded expectations is because they played so much together in the AHL, so not sure they break them up until Miro can handle a heavier work load (hopefully in the next round).
May 13May 13 Author I'll see if I can find a non-ss version, but someone decided to make the Stars bald and give Pete hair and I'm fucking dying
