Your Friends and Neighbors - Jon Hamm is popping up everywhere and i'm here for it!

anybody else catch this one? on Apple

also has Amanda Peet and Olivia Munn. really good, not so heavy as we just finished The Pitt and are also watching Mobland, The Agency and Last of Us... this one is by far the most fun and easy watch.

Spoiler

i find this one of the most sympathetic characters Hamm has ever played, Cooper seems like a genuine and pretty good guy (well, except for the whole thievery stuff lol) whose life is just one unfair hit after another. Hamm sells it.

if you're looking for a bit more lighthearted human story give it a shot 🙂

This has been discussed on the AppleTV+ chat, but deserves its own thread.

Really enjoying this too.  Didn't realize that its created by Jonathan Tropper, same as Banshee and Warrior, so no wonder.

Does this show have the same amount of boobs and violence as those do?

Not violence. Plenty of sex, just no nudity because Apple.

Better show on HBO because boobs. But it’s pretty good.

The show just makes me hate rich people even more, and therefore by association, also most of Surly...even more.

If you spent time on the business and markets board, you’d know it’s been a rough year for us.  Personally I’m down to Surly 2% level.

Really hoping this show gets cancelled... then picked up by HBO because want (  *   Y.  *   )

Wife and I watched the first episode last night. Very quirky.

I never watched Mad Men but I have always enjoyed Jon Hamm’s work.

You should remedy that posthaste.

I actually tried an episode or two very early on and it just reminded me of a soap opera type of show.

I heard nothing but good things about it and need to go back and watch.

This show made us go back and rewatch Mad Men.  Glorius.  There are a couple of shitty story lines I could have done without but overall, pretty fantastic 7 season run.

He plays a lawyer?

  • 4 weeks later...

Watched ep 1 the other day. The fact that the entire premise of the show rests on Hamm's failure to hire a lawyer to negotiate his exit agreement is off-putting.

I don't know. I quite enjoyed both the college episode and Barney talking about how he and his wife got to this point where they keep needing to acquire stuff. It's a silly show with a flimsy premise but I've enjoyed it.

He tried to hire a lawyer, but the lawyer was owned by his boss.  Yes, shaky but so was Banshee.  Just enjoy the ride.

My main problem with the show is that Coop knows how to make money. He had a large book on Wall Street.

Why is he stealing thousands when he could be stealing millions via securities fraud?

Pretty sure the firm that fired him took his book.

I love the quirkiness of the show.

They did take his book. My point is if he’s above average Wall Street dollar jockey, he knows how to bend or even break the rules for his benefit.

Oh he is breaking the rules alright……but different kinds.

Just saw an ad for this and it looked intriguing. I like Hamm. Worth adding to the list?

it's ok, but it's not like I am recommending anyone watch it.

Its not gonna win awards or be a water cooler show, but its def entertaining.

Olivia Munn looked a lot more rude than I thought she was. Did she have a kid recently?

She's had 2 with John Mulaney but I'm pretty sure they used a surrogate.

She recently posted some pics showing scars.  Looks like she had reconstructive surgery post mastectomy.

Well the show wrapped and it was ok.  But I’m not jonesing for S2.  The show has better actors than writers.  I hate the 2nd person narration.  Especially Olivia Munn’s. Lots of holes in The police work.

the evolution of the son was good. Amazing how one can go from total depressed angry teen to attentive respectful kid simply by getting laid.  Pussy again the antidote.

Conversely, the daughter is a newfound daddy’s girl after Ansari level bad sex.

Yeah. Pretty easy wrap up in one episode. I’ll give it B- because it did entertain overall.

Solid B. Should have stayed with the theft storyline instead of the completely random murder mystery. The pawn shop lady was funny.

Agree on the nice, neat wrap up sentiments in the finale. It’s a more interesting show if Coop goes down and Olivia Munn just leaves him twisting in the can.

Pretty obvious that Coop is going to open his own shop after choosing his sister over closing the Swiss.

I’m glad they’re bringing attention to it, but his sister’s struggles with bipolar are a tough watch.

Season 2 will be interesting. Does it want to be a fun wealth porn/ pop culture reference show like Billions or does it go darker and chase Emmys?

This was hilarious - not good but hilarious and a fun watch. Mel is a horrible character tho

Expect for Munn. Holy fuck she is a horrible actress. I wish her character had been murdered.

I took that ending to mean he was going back to being a their.

Quirky show but fun.

i wonder if the actress playing his sister was actually singing those songs. It sure looked like it.

Whomever it is was great. Very Alanis Morissette’ish.

I would think so, she's a tony award winning actress.

She is damn good at both.

Guess I should research the cast.

I thought the show was definitely decent and basically enjoyable esp compared to what Apple has in any non-science fiction genre.

IMO Jon Hamm was basically reprising Don Draper though not as depressed and angry. Nothing wrong with that I just kept think about "Don." I agree with what's already been pointed out about the sister becoming a tough watch and the annoyance when Oliva Munn became a narrator when she was supposed to be acting. There were also some annoying holes in the plot and a lot of contrived bs just to fill time. However much of the filming was outdoors in a gorgeous NY setting and that was a step-up from Apple's tendency toward dark CGI filming techniques.
