It’s nice to know that Homeland Security is in good hands…

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem fell victim to a thief while eating dinner at a downtown Washington, DC, restaurant Sunday night, the secretary confirmed Monday.

Noem, who was asked about the theft at the White House Easter Egg Roll, acknowledged the incident and said the matter has not been resolved.

The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the Capital Burger restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.

The thief got away with Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and about $3,000 in cash.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation to trace any use of Noem’s financial instruments, the person added.

“Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren – she was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts,” a DHS spokesperson said.

Yeah, as I do every time I have family in town, I withdraw several grand in cash to pick up the bill when out eating. That’s not weird at all

It has nothing to do with unreportable income I don’t want to deposit at the bank

Pretty sure most security professionals would say carrying around that much cash is dumb. I hope this person doesn't make important decisions relating to security matters.

Relax. Secret Service is on this.

She’s fucking her detail, I’m sure

I don’t wanna white knight for that lady.  But…

Lotsa people in the rural north keep that much cash on hand.  You’re driving down the road and see a fish house, 4 wheeler, etc. along the road for sale.  It’s a smoking deal and they won’t take a check.  So you go to the hiding spot in your pickup and grab a stack of cash.

Not saying she was at the restaurant to buy a boat, but carrying lotsa cash is kinda cultural for some folks.

To be clear, I dislike her as a person.  But there may be nothing nefarious here.

White Knight Noem?

Normalize cash transactions again.

Especially when they involve small business owners.

Fucking clowns.

Also, you are just an asshole if you don't carry cash for tips when travelling.

The real story isn’t  the head of DHS being so careless she got her access card and passport swiped, it’s people on a message board  questioning her carrying 3 grand in cash.

Well yeah, we’ve kind of come to expect the carelessness of national security and government info. Maybe she posted her dinner plans in a Signal group chat

It could have happened to a better person...but I am glad it did not.

And Noem never knows when she's going to need a new dog.

Hopefully they keep better track of her luggage, never know what might happen to it
