Well no more money is rolling in from me. I’m done. No more longhorn foundation. No more business school and engineering school donations. No more season tickets. No more eyeballs to sell for the next tv contract. I’m done. Did the same thing with the cowboys and my life is way better. Who needs it. Cheating programs. Coaching frauds. Players demanding paydays. Outrageous coaching salaries. It isn’t going to be my money paying for any of it. I’m done.

Bully for you. Good choice.

I haven’t given a penny to the athletic department since I graduated and I don’t ever plan to. Fuck that money machine.

If one good thing came from today’s game is the entire sports media is hammering Mensa and his staff.   Even the Baghdad Bob types who were hesitant to go there are letting it rip.   Now if they could just let rip and the the press conference on a Monday and at any CDC press availability chance, this would be a good thing.

I believe he is. But I don't blame mensa for the situation. The UT power brokers keep failing with bone-headed coaching decisions.  Tom will have more than enough money for life to act as arrogant as he wants.

Yes, at least Chuck all but forced us to do immediately what we were going to do eventually anyway.  Not so with Herm.

Why would you not blame him for failing? He had a blank checkbook to hire the best staff he could build and he failed miserably at assembling an elite staff.

on college game day they were interviewing oregeron and asking him about the biggest things he’s learned as a head coach:

hire the best people you can and get out of their way.

thats basically the exact opposite of what Herman did.

Then you need to reacquaint yourself with Charlie’s box scores.

Now, wait just a minute, fine sir.  Can we talk first?

Even though we're likely only winning 7 games tops this season, I doubt CDC will fire Herman. That sucks.

Depends on how the team finishes. I give Herm a sixty percent chance of keeping his job with a mediocre finish. If the team gives up and it is a disaster (please, please) that percentage drops to 30, and will hinge on who is available and interested.

exactly. holy shit we were getting beat by 20-30 points.  he's not getting blown out on the reg but he's only about 2 notches above that.

everyone will be interested, its good for agents and coaches.  the question is do we have the stones to actually go get the guy we want regardless of price.

I think he'll rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic for one season before he's gone. 2020 will be his last if he can't right the ship (he can't). Sadly that Sugar Bowl win bought him until then, even though we backed into the bowl and still lost 4 games (3 of which we shouldn't have).

Herman appears to be one of the worst types of men.  An arrogant bully who when confronted with his bullshit and forced to face it becomes a sniveling defensive coward.

#5023

I run into those guys every day in business. Of course they all walk away with millions as they fail their way to the top.

I hate how after a loss, they don’t put the post-game presser up on youtube.

Fat. Bloated. Overwhelmed.

This is only the 3rd time ISU defeated Texas.

Shame.

My guess would be 6-6

I would also guess that the SEC will see this as a golden opportunity and schedule the aggys against us in a bowl

for 9 years people ask me if they think we will win and for 9 years my answer has been the same(assuming its not rice, etc).  "maybe, I will be pleasantly surprised if we do".

for 9 years, every fucking game, against any opponent with a pulse.

We have had ZERO leadership in the athletic dept for 9 years.  CDC has the chance to make a difference.

#5030

I think it's too early to condemn CDC.  Except for the extension, which was probably against his advice, but then he did Angela Kelly, so  . . . .  That chapter will be written in December and January.

7-5. Tech is really bad. Hell, while unlikely, it wouldn't shock me if they beat Baylor. Anything from here on out this year is too little too late though. Season's over.

Sure but Tom has a far superior QB and more talent than Charlie had.

Sam better feed Dev and Rojo the fucking ball.  Audible at the line idgaf. But if he loses that game, Herman is 100% gone.

Texas beat KU by 2 points, Tech being bad is irrelevant.

exactly.  and he'll be playing the Tech coach for the first time so I assume there will be a lot of "we didn't expect them to...." after the loss

#5039

I think we lose to Tech.  They have only a marginally worse defense but a better offense.  We’re looking at 6-6.  One more year after this one finishes him off.

I'm on board.  Fire Tom Herman.  He sucks.  Hire one of the better Big 12 coaches.  Win win.  Help us.  Hurt them.

#5042

Having had a few hours to cool off, I just want to revisit this thread to say fuck Tom Herman. I really hope he got fired on the tarmac.

And hire who? Our way of finding and evaluating head coaching hires is clearly broken at this point. Strong's hire was a disaster, and Texas has regressed hard under Herman. Now compare that to the Big 12 schools ahead of us in the standings who've made recent hires.

- Lincoln Riley was the OC at East Carolina when blOU found him. Now, he's led blOU to two straight Big 12 titles and has never missed the playoffs since becoming a head coach. And he's eight years younger than Herman.

- Baylor, despite being in a state of absolute disaster, found Rhule at Temple. In just two years, he's turned around an 1-11 team, in shambles with a serious deficit of talent, and taken them to 9-1.

- Matt Campbell was the head coach at fucking Toledo! ISU hired him for 2016, and he's already a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Other schools carefully identify coordinators/coaches they know will fit in with the institutional culture, make good hires, and set themselves and their players up for success. We myopically throw money at a sexy G5 hire, smile and look the other way while he makes underwhelming coordinator hires, then watch as said hires fail, the head coach is forced to take on more of the burden, and the team becomes a sinking ship with failure after failure on the field against inferior but better-coached athletes. The reality is that Bellmont has royally screwed up the coaching hire process at UT.

#5044

This is going to seem reactionary but his name was tossed around when Herman got hired: Matt Campbell. He would murder it here.

All data points to Tom Herman being a coward, his offense starting slowly, defense playing way off the line, turtling as soon as he has a lead, etc. We got fooled by couple of big wins in his career because he was an underdog and didn't have anything to lose to be afraid of. Combine this with poor preparation, and we have wins only due to athletic superiority.

just like in the good old days.

#5047

Does anyone else think Tom Herman gives terrible pep talks? I can't imagine his players getting fired up after hearing his pep talks. When you start every sentence with "aaa", it's hard to listen to the rest. Great motivators/speakers don't use "aaa" to connect sentences.

You don't know that. Tom and Charlie both did very well at smaller programs, and yet their success elsewhere didn't translate to much at Texas. Our next hire should be someone with a proven record at a major program.

#5050

Campbell makes a lot of dumbass in game decisions like Herman does. I'm tired of that shit. Strong, Shaka, Herman... over it. No thanks.
