He’s been activated this year and is activated for the first time this season? Am I reading that right?

So he turned down the Colts when they asked him to come start so he could sit behind Bo nix AND Jarrett stidham? Bruh

So he could collect his entire $1.1mm salary - is how I read it.  Or maybe as thanks to the Broncos for having him active for week 1 - allowing him to collect the full $1.1mm salary.

He was never guaranteed to start for Indy.

Of course not but they’re working out 45 year old Philip rivers so it’s an opportunity unlike anything he’s had in years

They signed him. He didn't come out of retirement and go off the HOF ballot to fuck around and not play dude lol

And you don’t bring in a 45 year old QB without also making sure the 2nd stringer has a pulse, he was likely being brought in as #2 (because Riley Leonard sucks)

I like Sam just fine. He would have had a better shot at a meaningful NFL career if the NFL still regularly employed fullbacks and bigger H backs.

Sam isn't good. Riley has been Indy's #2 ever since AR15 broke his face. They could have grabbed Sam at any point before this week if they wanted him at 2.

They only inquired about Sam because Riley was banged up too, but he's dressing as the backup.

$1.1M for six months of work.  He could do worse.  He's never going to be a consistent NFL starter.  It was a smart decision.

Ok. My main point was that NFL teams aren’t signing a guy who’s never started mid season to come in and start

It just sucks that he had to make a financial decision rather than competing against a guy that’s old enough to be his dad, that hasn’t played in 5 years, to lead a potential playoff team in an offensive scheme he knows. It just seems like an opportunity for Sam to pull a Geno Smith

No, he would not have forfeited any of his salary for this season. That was guaranteed when he was active for week 1. He would have been 3rd string in Indy behind Rivers & Leonard, he chose to stay 3rd string where he was.

Denver clearly whispered they would elevate him this week just as a little bonus for his agreement.

Sam has never been as good as Geno Smith.

Love Sam as a tough Longhorn QB, but he wasn't close to Geno Smith.

Geno was terrible because he was a Jet, where every QB was terrible.

Denver is winning. Indy is not. Not worth the move unless it's to actually play for a contract...

You’re probably right but Geno has always had better playmakers around him than Sam so I don’t think it’s as cut and dried as you’re saying

Counterpoint: Sam was fortunate to never have been a Jet.

Better chance of getting playoff money.
