Sugar Bowl Most Outstanding Players:
1948    Bobby Layne    Texas    QB
2019    Sam Ehlinger    Texas    QB

I’m telling you. Enjoy this kid while you can. This is the kid we’ve been chasing since Colt left

Sam plays against a better defense in practice than all of about 1-2 SEC teams. Hell, I'm sure Fromm didn't think the Longhorn defense was going to lay his out as much as they did either.

He looks like the guy from Better Call Saul that they hustled at that hotel bar, Kyle Bornheimer

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1531180/

But Sam has a slightly better running game aspect to him...

needs to stay away from injuries next year.  Hand off the ball more, does UT have a big back in the pipeline?

he's gonna be the 2nd best qb in the history of the program by the time he's done.  just a fucking stud.

Because he's in the SEC and that's what they do. It's a better conference than the Big 12, he knows it, and they like the chest thump.

Big deal.

Just thought this needed reposting after Texas shoved UGA around in the Sugar Bowl and the Big12 finished 3-1 against SEC in bowls. Got anymore dumbass sentiments about SEC superiority?

Sam is gonna get LJH and CJ to come back.

RB personnel is irrelevant on that issue. Comes with the territory in Herman’s offense.

Hmm. Bold statement. Hope you’re right. Bar is set high with Vince and Colt.

Looking back at why this thread started...

Sam has shut the fuck out of EVERY SINGLE ONE of us.  That speaks volumes about this kid.

And NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Bobby Layne.

Jesus. Embarrassed I forgot that one.

James Street did pretty well...

1. Vince

2. Colt

3. Layne

4. Street

5. Simms / Applewhite

6. Brown

Sams got a pretty chance of securing a place on the Mount Rushmore of Texas QB before he’s done.

I need a good collection of multi quotes of the scorching hot takes from this thread.

I mean, Duke Carlisle won the program’s first national title but I guess he’s no Chris Simms.

It's hard to explain just how valuable Sam is to this team.  Tonight he was 7 of 9 on 3rd down passing for 59 yards, 5 1st downs and 1 sack.  With his feet he converted another 4 first downs, had 41 yards and a TD on 3rd down.

Then there's the toughness and leadership.  When he runs over defenders or converts 3rd downs with his feet, it's like watching a thundering slam dunk or a steal and breakaway layup in basketball.

Kid’s a hoss, a gamer, looked to have played the game in a uniform that hadnt been washed since before the CCG.  SE gave no fucks.

very relevant, as Sam needs to be protected from injury risk

He's the toughest QB in cfb and he's becoming one of the best.

I cannot eat enough crow from my stance about him after Maryland this year.

Hook 'em, Sam!!

Not sure it’s hard to explain at all really. But maybe you were just being tongue in cheek. It’s almost completely anecdotal. Look at Texas teams QB’d by Vince and Colt for a simple explanation of what happens when a team believes in their QB. When a play needs to be made, you turn to your guy, and when that guy comes through it reverberates. We just haven’t had a leader like this in so long. But the swag is back

His point was that Herman hasn't 'protected' his QB in any offense he's ever run.  The QB is going to be part of the running game and is asked/expected to be tough and play physical like the rest of the team.

But it doesn't mean he needs to play reckless - that slide in the 4th quarter where he made the decision to not try and dive for the first down (and continue to run clock) is a good example of Sam playing smart in this offense and taking care of himself.

and that needs to change to protect Sam, who can still pick his spots to run, but reduce it by 70%

Sam is one bad motherfucker! So glad we have him for the next 2 years. Fuck yeah!

Sorry, not every one of us needed to be shut up. Some of us believed in Sam since the beginning.

and there goes the season if Sam is out

I really enjoy that 3rd down confidence that I haven't felt since VY and Colt were with us. 3rd and 7? No fucking problem. 3rd and 10? I'm cool, Sam got it, just watch. What a comforting feeling to have a badass under center.

The kid is a gamer. Gives everything he has, and I have to think his love for Texas has a lot to do with it.

when he takes off, i have the same confidence that I had with VY to make the needed yards.  Sam's cutting ability, for a guy his size, is pretty amazing.

Very mature, heads up play rushing the team to the line of scrimmage when Georgia was trying to sub out defensive linemen forcing them to use a timeout. If they don’t take the TO, we get the first down on the penalty. That’s the stuff Aaron Rodgers does all the time that pisses me off when he does it to my team.

This right here. For a big bruising running QB, he’s consistently slippery.  He made the Georgia defenders his bitch on some of those runs.

Not everyone. Some had it pegged from the beginning while others insisted on calling him names.

I first saw him play as a 9th grader at Westlake.  I knew he would be good, but I didn't see him being this good.  There's a work ethic and drive that cannot be taught.
