So if I read your post correctly it sounds like Brooks and Barnes probably signed elsewhere for not much more money than Texas offered? So was it about playing time, or just hurt feelings?

I'm being presumptive about what those guys got/will get, so don't take my thoughts about their situations as gospel. The only thing we "know" is that they didn't get offers that pleased them from Texas, although the Barnes offer wasn't low ball and he was coming back had dipshit not completely fucked up the meeting involving completing the deal.

Eh, I was just making the portal joke because generally, it’s going to be a pretty good bet going forward when a guy transfers after his freshman year he probably has one or two more transfers in him when it’s all said and done. But I also haven’t been all over this thread pissing my pants that we don’t have future nfl all pros up and down the OL two-deep.

I think he’s a solid pickup for next season depth and it could be a really valuable pickup down the line. Or we cut bait with no real opportunity cost. Exactly what we should be doing and I assume we have more of the like on the way.

I don't think I was responding to your post specifically, which is why I didn't quote. The initial reaction across text strings, this board, the OTF board and Twitter has sort of been "meh, probably won't even stick around".

Agree, this is a quality add. I don't know if he will be ready to contribute next season, but he is more likely to appreciate a place that he enjoys going to school and may not be so quick to jump back into the portal. We still need two or three high quality guys that will make an impact next season.

OTF said that he's development more than depth, so yeah, they're still trying to fill at least 2 more spots. If this dude plays next season outside of garbage time, he's either really jumped up the learning curve, or Texas is already fucked. He was a bookend with Fodje in HS and folks liked them about the same. Fodje was forced into starting snaps early this past season and he barely passed as serviceable and sometimes just got his ass whipped against better defenses. I assume things would be better than that with Newman in Year 2, but it wasn't pretty in Norman this season and I'd prefer not see anything akin to that in Austin in 2026.

Jonte Newman in the portal. Can't remember, but think it may have come down to us and aggy last year.

Holy shit, I didn’t even know he was in the portal. That’s a huge get. They loved this guy out of HS and his teammate who went to OU. This is an upgrade on Nick Brooks.

Not gonna make a big difference this year, but definitely a solid option down the line.

Read the thread, man! I can't believe you missed that one post 70 pages ago!

Three of us posted the announcement that is how insane/pathetic we as fans are waiting for offensive linemen.

The thirst is real, and I imagine CTJ reacting like this to the reposts:

So it amuses me.

Doing some digging around his recruitment, we finally landed someone whose dream school was Texas??

Being in pole position, it was pretty obvious Banks would nail this one.

All the usual PFF disclaimers but Seaton's PFF grade this year (65.8) was actually slightly lower than Baker's. As other have said, Seaton was excellent in pass pro but shitty in run game. Goosby's overall rating far ahead of both guys.

Meanwhile Bah was 60.7 (good in Pass, meh in run), Barton 58.7 (same), Church 64.0 (very bad in pass, good in run). Church was above 70 the previous two years though.

Nothing like a year in College Station to help you realize Texas is your dream school.

What is the PFF grade for “doesn’t derail the offense?”

Yea this where I’m at on these. Every PFF posted for linemen in here has been meh to bad, but college linemen be like that.

It does feel like PFF needs to rework their run blocking grade system. EVERYONE can't be a bad run blocker on the offensive front yet it sure as shit seems that way. Even the All-Conference guys are almost always "Well he is good in the pass game with a ~65 pass block grade but oh boy he isn't motivated to block the run, ~55 grade there".

#12825

well I said I wanted one o lineman for depth, got one. Now we need another d lineman. Would be amazing to get the twins but that would just be getting greedy now…or all all in? Do it
