It’s funny, I started browsing on Longhorn message boards when I was in the 9th grade in 2003. 20+ years later and I’m still one of the younger ones.

Young people don't even know what a message board is, closest thing is reddit, and they all call it an "app".

If you were not on message boards fully engaging in the Simms vs Applewhite culture war, are you a real Texas fan? The only thing that stopped me from posting more then was my bad modem connection.

It was Hornfans back then. The Shaggy exodus didn’t happen until 07-08. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Eh...if you weren't posting post-practice reports on Prodigy as soon as you got back to your apartment, you're to young to be claiming to be old....

Listen Tex, as the resident whipper-snap in this board, along with Helobious, you two can certainly collab and try to teach us olds about the happening music of the day. I'm pretty sure this board would love to learn more about Bad Bunny, and your personal favorite, Lorde.

Personally, I'm team Doechii.

OK Boomer, Lorde hasnt released an album in 10 years

I was in 11th grade computer class on Hornfans learning what a blunket was and watching highlights of some tall dude from Houston that people said was gonna be the next Vick

We were forced to say our shitty sports opinions out loud in front of other people.

No, but he did predict that they wouldn't go any farther in stardom as a band than being moderately well-known in the greater Seattle area.

Consider me impressed that an Alan Jackson aficionado such as yourself can also recognize an Eminem lyric and give one back.

The first 3 songs on my randomized playlist for walking my dog this morning:

Outside of most reggae, all death metal and most country music between the years 1995-2010, I like just about anything.

Back in the day the Dallas Morning news was the main recruiting source. You waited all January for the back page article. They had 3 lists: National , Regional and State. Our horns rarely had a National kid. Lovell pinkney was the 1st big one as I recall.

Later it was all magazines. Prep Sports America was hosted by Chris Fowler and came on Saturday mornings. If you were lucky , your school would get mentioned as having a shot at big time HS recruit. Back then (80’s) it was notre dame , Miami , fsu getting all the big names.

Later you could subscribe to a Fax. Basically a news letter once a day.

Then in 98 or so AAS 360 Or something like that was the site we all used, but dial up made it super hard to navigate page to page as the pop ups killed the experience.

Then horn fans came and the likes of HPSlugga, rpongett and billinsinton

46, but point taken. Had to Google “popular young artists” or some shit for my initial post.

Also, your mom is a fucking turnstile.

Elder millennial that started on message boards way too young. Longhornfanzone in the early 2000s when I was in high school. My dad would print out those long ass Longhorn Bob game previews every week at his work for us to get ready for the game.

Dad is still kicking around the UT message boards universe but he became an Inside Texas guy and thinks I’m a degenerate for posting over here.

Originally on r.s.f.c (Usenet or...)?. Texas did have it's own news group but I am too lazy to look it up.

Then signed up on Hornfans. Went over to Longhorn Fan Zone, then there was BOFZ, Longhorn Mafia..., and now... this hive of scum and villainy.

Fuck me for contributing to the thread derail.

rec.sports.football.college I think

Well, Texas quarterback Peter Gardere did what he does best - beat OU.
I don't much care for Gardere because were it not for his momentum
killing interceptions, Texas would be 5-0 and in the top 10. Just
before the half, he tossed an interception when they were leading 17-10.
Great! Here we go again. Fortunately, the UT defense was outstanding
and the game was not nearly as close as the score would suggest.
If they continue to play like this, the SWC race will be decided when
the 11-0 Aggies roll into memorial stadium to take on the 8-2 Longhorns.
Wishful thinking? Maybe.... but it's possible!!!

austin.general was one of the big usenet forums for Longhorns sports.

Here's what you would call a 'post-game thread' after we beat A&M in 1995 to win the final SWC Championship. Lots of furious Aggie fans complaining about the UT fans who ran onto Kyle Field after the win.

Accidentally stumbled across Shaggy in '08 after frantically conducting internet searches to learn the fate of Billy and April after the thread went quiet on HF

Hotline - 512 416-5700? Those were the days, suffering through her voice to get an update on Cedric Woodard, Damon Luckett, or to see if we beat out Florida for Donald McCowan. I was so pumped when Will Goodloe committed...

Point taken, but I think the staff probably has to assume for planning purposes that Arch will leave after next season. It's the most likely outcome, IMO.

The AAS Fab 55 was a good list back in the day. I used to pore over it.

Correct.

Houston Chronicle had a national, state and local one that I would read religiously each year. The Chron had a really good HS section back in the day. My parents kept the ones with my name in it, but lost them in moves along the way, apparently.
