thank you for a legit response. ftr, i'm not panicked I'm trying to get a read on it. so once the portal closes the only ramification is no one can enter after that time, so the players in the portal can continue to visit and figure out what they want to do? the only rush right now on the buy side is so the player can enroll for spring "classes" and therefore participate in spring camp, etc.

is that correct?

Correct. The deadline is to enter the portal, not sign.

Derek Williams is going to be your other starting safety. Filsame flashed enough that with additional training, I don't have concerns with him as depth. Jonah is much more difficult to evaluate.

You don’t think Smith and Biles upgrade the LB position more than McDonald and Williams do at safety? We still don’t really know what we’re getting from Williams coming off the knee injury, and there’s already talk of him sliding down to nickel.

I do agree Filsame can only get better, and we still don’t know what Jonah will be. But if there’s a starter-level safety available, you have to take that swing. I really like the Minnesota safety, but we haven’t been mentioned with him at all.

I was not aware that he went to UT. I know an agent can’t play favorites but how ever we can get mulugheta in our back pocket…I’d say it’s worth the “moola-to-get-a”.

David and his brother Abe are Texas grads, and while he's undoubtedly going after top dollar, he doesn't hide his affinity for Texas and has also helped get kids home. The Atkinson recruitment this cycle is a good example - David's frat brothers during his time on campus included Earl, Wells, Keenan, Marquise, J Hills. Atkinson's dad is an active member of that same fraternity, was introduced to Hills (via Dawit), which led to training with Hills and DJ. I'd expect he will only be involved in "five star" type recruitments, but the kids he represents will hear about Texas for sure.

Most portal OL are committed at this point while Flood was eating paste. This is what's left and not sure if any of these dudes have even been contacted.

Fuck you. And fuck @BurntOrange&White and everyone else littering this thread with your unending negativity. According to you assholes Sark was going to be fired in November, our team was going to no-show in the bowl game, and our "all-in" portal strategy was going to be a bust. Well, sorry, but Sark is still the coach. Arch and the team balled out in the bowl game, showcasing the program for a title run in 2026. And now we're cleaning up in the portal by accumulating talent around our elite players in their final year: Arch, Goosby, Wingo, and Simmons.

But Simkins Man, we don't have many good OL yet. Well actually, we have perhaps the best LT in the country returning when most players in his position would have gone pro. We have an experienced senior C coming back who sets the floor for the position. We have options at RT. And we are going to sign a couple of more offensive linemen. So seriously, fuck off with your bullshit. After Sunday no one wants to hear it any more.

With the way I've seen Gerry alter his writing regarding Gregory, the Edge from Okie State, I'm starting to believe he may very well wind up Texas. That would mean the guy had a few more visits and thought "huh, not really the level of offer from anyone that I was expecting, but good offers nonetheless. Now, where would I really like to play?

If that's the case and they land him, I am assuming that Vasek hits the road, as has been rumored since November.

There is a chance that a Safety enters the portal with a no contact tag. No certainty, but a shot. Otherwise, you're not including Black or Roberson in your thinking at S and you probably should for at least one of them.

Don't forget about Zelus Hicks. I think he can be another big piece back there.

I’m sure you’ve dove a tremendous amount of film work on the Yale OL. The guy covered by Texas, Oregon, and Indiana.

No but I know the likes of Cam Coleman and Hollywood Smothers have proven themselves in a major conference rather than against Ivy League opponents. The guy might be a total badass but its much more projection than proven badasses at other positions. He's being pursued by schools like Oregon because there are slim pickings at the position and they're losing 2 starting offensive tackles. You take what you can get. If there were Cam Coleman or Hollywood Smothers types for OL you can bet Oregon, Indiana, and Texas would be prioritizing them over a guy like the Yale OT.

Starter level safety isn't the level we are at. Jelani is locked into a starter roll and will be a star. You don't upgrade from him, so I'm not sure what you're asking there. Williams will be replacing Taaffe. He has the experience and ability replace Taaffe without a huge drop off. He looked fine when he actually played. Akina just didn't like him. If Muschamp is comfortable with him, then I think he'll be good. Maybe if you can get a Mukaba type AA player, sure, go for it. But just getting a guy who is generally starter level is pointless.

Idk who will be the other starter at S but there's enough to feel ok riding with the current group. Any of Filsaime, Williams, Jonah, or JJR could take a step forward with the rest providing solid depth. Expect better coaching to help a lot there too.

Imo the only true needs at this point are 2-3 OLs (1+ starters and some depth) and 1 LB. Everything else is gravy barring unexpected departures.

i would not be upset with a solid, experienced Safety. It is a position like OL, where consistency is the key. Willing to give Muschamp the benefit though.

IIRC he reclassified and enrolled at Texas after his high school junior year. In 9.95 speak, he should be getting ready for his Senior Prom!

Roberson did show alot on the last few games. I really think he’d big a good nickel due to his physicality and above avg coverage. Specially if you want to move Littleton (which I think would be a great Saftey)

Yes McDonald is your guy, but I was more so talking about the other spot. I didn’t see much of Williams to leave me feeling great about it, but like you said Muschamp wanted him so maybe he has a plan. I was just more so saying if an another starter level safety (Makuba) enters I would want to go after him

From starting QB in the CFP playoff in 2024 to complete failure of an offensive lineman in 2025 is quite the downfall.

Edit: Nevermind. The original tweet quoted was about Sam Leavitt.

Yes but there is a deadline to participate in spring practice. I have heard 3 weeks after classes start is the last day to get someone into classes.

From Google:

At UT Austin, you can generally add classes online without approval until the sixth class day, but for late registration after that, you'll need your dean's approval, with the last opportunity typically being around the 12th class day, though circumstances after the sixth day are rare. Specific dates shift yearly, so always check the official UT Academic Calendar for the exact deadlines for each session (like the 16-week or 8-week sessions) for adding, dropping, or withdrawing.

The most annoying this about this Portal is that leaving OL last has opened the door to the bane of every CFB board - this fucking guy:

"Hmmm I see the plebes are excited about a skill position player. Only a true football knower like me knows that, in fact, linemen are important. The only way I can demonstrate my superior knowledge is by being a colossal dick about this."

Yup. That's why I expect we will had 2 or 3 more lineman by end of month.

Texas was going to make a reasonable offer to have him stay on and compete. Maybe they did that and he decided he wanted out anyway, or maybe they're realizing that that money is better committed to someone else. If the Safety thing happens in the portal, likely they need extra dry powder.
