Good riddance, for the reasons cited. He was a constant source of stupid penalties. That's day one shit, and if you can't get it right then there's the big ass door.

Hope he cleans it all up at his next stop. Well wishing and all that bullshit, etc. But I'm not sad to see him go.

Fuck you. And fuck @BurntOrange&White and everyone else littering this thread with your unending negativity. According to you assholes Sark was going to be fired in November, our team was going to no-show in the bowl game, and our "all-in" portal strategy was going to be a bust. Well, sorry, but Sark is still the coach. Arch and the team balled out in the bowl game, showcasing the program for a title run in 2026. And now we're cleaning up in the portal by accumulating talent around our elite players in their final year: Arch, Goosby, Wingo, and Simmons.

But Simkins Man, we don't have many good OL yet. Well actually, we have perhaps the best LT in the country returning when most players in his position would have gone pro. We have an experienced senior C coming back who sets the floor for the position. We have options at RT. And we are going to sign a couple of more offensive linemen. So seriously, fuck off with your bullshit. After Sunday no one wants to hear it any more.

I don't think anyone realizes that Texas isn't hurting for OL like other teams are that are losing multiple starting OL, aggy lost almost their entire starting OL and are having to spend plenty of resources for other teams versions of Kibble, Cruz, and Stroh. We want good competition, but we could easily roll out Goosby, Sikorski, Robertson, Baker, and Brooks next season and be fine. That would be returning 4 guys that started games last year for Texas. We have upgraded every skill position room from last year. which would make the OL job easier especially with the homerun hitting backs we added in Brown and Smothers. You want the running game to be better add elite speed to the position and watch the OL become competent again.

I remember when you decided it was your duty to repeatedly say this same type of shit heading into Jake Majors’ senior season at C during that offseason. It was powerful stuff. The groundswell of support for your bravery echoed through the structural bones at Bellmont, Flood heard your demands and everything changed.

Wait. No, no that’s not right. Oh yes, now it’s coming to me - nothing you bawled about mattered, Majors started all season and wound up joining an NFL organization.

Keep tilting at those windmills though. They’ll fall down eventually. Make sure you leave no room for the possibility of player improvement.

The Texas approach is to lock up the key roles now. Once that work is finished, we may see a flurry of additions that don’t cost anything more than scholarships. If some of those guys play their way into snaps, they’ll get some upside in future rev share. This is what they started doing in recruiting in the 2026 cycle and it sounds like they’re amplifying that in 2027.

There is only so much time, employee headcount and money. No org can do everything. It’s great to plan, but also be flexible because who does or does not go into the portal becomes a real time issue. I know they fucked up the OL situation, but I’m interested in seeing if they can course correct with who is actually out there now. Everything else has gone according to plan A, or then plan B, or then plan C. OL? They flunked plan A and now we cross our fingers.

Majors was above average and not good. He never even made an all conference team in two different conferences.

As far as Robertson he repeatedly scored 50s-60s pff grades this season.

Missed all of the fun yesterday while stuck in Waco.

Adding Coleman will alleviate Sarks goal to goal issues. Dez Bryant is my comp there.

Smothers/Brown won't get caught 10 yards down the field like the last couple of years.

Did anybody make the Biles/Spetic make up a shitty portal class joke yet?

Waiting to see the OL haul before crowing Sark/Texas for 2026

Maybe I’m way off, but he isn’t the athlete Dez was (Dez was huge and still a stud PR in the NFL). I see more of a George Pickens type. Big, strong, and faster than he tests.

You don't know that. It might be true but nothing Brooks did last season should inspire this kind of confidence. Sikorski is an unknown too with only 6 starts at a G5 school.

Is it possible there is enough on the roster to get by? Sure. Would it be smart to bank on that for protecting Arch? No it would not. Luckily it doesn't sound like they are.

Seen Cam listed anywhere from 6'3" to 6'4", 200-215. Ran an electric timed 4.46. Dez is 6'2" and ran a 4.52. Not saying Cam is gonna be as good.

The problem is there are no badasses in the portal for OL. At least in comparison with RB and LB. I'm convinced they're tampering with somebody that isn't in the portal. Even landing the Yale OT is a lukewarm addition in comparison to other positions.

You've said variations of this like ten times now. To be clear there absolutely have been some badass OL in the portal. We are responsible for fishing a few of them into it in the first place as you keep asking for. The Michigan duo ended up taking far less money to stay at Michigan. It happens. Guarnera is one of the best guards in the country who will be even better if he actually plays his natural position (Center). Sprague is a well above average RT. Then you have guys like Brenner the Wisconsin OG still floating around out there who is another All-Conference caliber player. These guys are of the caliber of a Biles or Raleek Brown. We also tried really damn hard to get Patrick Kutas, the elite Ole Miss guard, to enter the portal as well (allegedly).

You can bitch about our whiffing on these targets if you want, fair enough I guess, but there is zero validity to the "no good OL have been available" or "we should tamper good players in" argument. There are and we have. Just hasn't gone our way yet.

Which brings up the next important point. Kids aren't leaving their current team's benches to come ride the pine on our bench. It's likely why the Yale kid went to Oregon, they have immediate need at both OTs. We don't, we have the likely #1 2027 NFL LT coming back and have 2-3 guys we'd be comfortable with at RT, depending on development and injury recovery. Bennett ain't coming here with the chance to compete for a starting job when Oregon is likely guaranteeing him a starting job and equal/more NIL.

Not sure how to feel about this. Easily my most hated Longhorn this year with how consistently he would do the dumbest fucking thing possible at any given moment. Then he looked kind of shockingly good in coverage later in the year though and certainly didn't hesitate to lay people out (though that Michigan hit people keep referencing was 100% a targeting that should have gotten his ass ejected).

Bobby mentioned this morning that Ryan Wingo’s dad reached out to Cam Coleman’s dad yesterday after his commitment.

Coleman’s presence is really going to help open things up for Mosley and Wingo.

Height isn’t the only component of huge though. Dez (no matter what he was listed at weight wise) was a BIG dude. A lot of times he made NFL DBs look like little dude. On top of that, Dez was explosive. Get a gap and he’s gone explosive IN THE NFL.

I HOPE Cam has some of that

I mean, there is also the idea that your OLine doesn't have to be as good if you have skill position talent and a QB that manipulates the pocket as well as Arch does. You don't need to block a long time to throw swing passes to the running backs, drags to Wingo or fades to Coleman. I'm not saying that we don't get some more dudes that are starter level (I believe we will) but it's just not as big a deal if your center is snapping the ball well and your tackles are good.

Miami is about to play for a national championship because they lean on a very good OL down the stretch. Would be great to have that especially if we want to make a deep playoff run.

Ohio State won the national championship last year with an OL that was more along the lines of good enough. That said, we need a couple more pieces to get to good enough.

O line actually did improve as the season went on. I think talent recognition is his biggest issue. Having to coach up spares is tough. And he keeps picking spares.

All jokes about penalties aside, Roberson is a really talented corner. Someone is going to get a good player.

#11738

I’d like to get a couple, not wow commits but solid. Maybe all second team Mac or d2? Take a swing there? Mwc? A couple lineman that at least make you feel better than Stroh. Still want one plug in immediately lineman but I’ll settle for some solid backups for now. And no I hope turntime never sees the field next year.

He's solid! Hes more a an athlete playing DB. With that being said, if he finds a good home and coach that can develop he can be better. I think I see him at a group of 5 school

Interesting. I had not considered that we need a decent OL in order to be successful, and I'm pretty sure that no one else on Surly has either. Pay attention, assholes. This is the type of insight that this board needs.

I agree with the improvement as the season went on and I believe Flood is a good coach when it comes to teaching! But I wonder how much had to do with going with Hutson at LG and Robertson at Center? i felt like the change on the OL took longer than it should have and it was maddening to witness in real time.

Flood has no issue finding tackles. It's the interior of the line where he hasn't hit on any really good players yet.

I think I get bronco’s point? I think Texas is concerned about revenue sharing. More scholarships, more mouths to feed. There’s also the Title IV implications. If they add 20 men’s scholarships, they have to add 20 women’s scholarships. That’s a big number, and would probably require them adding another women’s sport. Incredibly expensive.

Rod Babers made an extremely rare good point today. Guys that aren’t playing are dead money. Stashing developmental players sounds awesome, but it would be very costly. So costly I doubt any program approaches 105 scholarships. I doubt many schools approach 85 scholarships if there’s revenue sharing and a salary cap.

I have no idea why they passed this rule in the middle of the NIL experiment. Nobody was asking for it.

I think many teams may go down to perhaps 65-70 players. The NFL makes do with 53.

Flood was telling people in August that he thought the best combination for the starting 5 was Goosby-Hutson-Robertson-Campbell-Baker. He was worried about losing Hutson at C for the line calls, but he thought that Umeozulu was going to get Manning killed and/or rack up a bunch of dumb penalties.

Next thing I knew, there was word from camp that Connor Stroh had surpassed Neto and was looking good at LG. That is when all of our antennae went up on this board and the collective head was scratched.

My theory is that he convinced himself, somehow, that Stroh was a better Guard than Robertson was a Center. Stroh was one of his guys and he really wanted that to work out.

On the one hand, I'm encouraged that the guy knew what his best starting 5 was. On the other hand, that hope is snuffed out by the fact that he chose, instead, to play the worst Guard in UT history, and he did so long enough to ensure that Texas was going to be unlikely to make the playoffs.
