The most annoying this about this Portal is that leaving OL last has opened the door to the bane of every CFB board - this fucking guy:

"Hmmm I see the plebes are excited about a skill position player. Only a true football knower like me knows that, in fact, linemen are important. The only way I can demonstrate my superior knowledge is by being a colossal dick about this."

Have you met JFKFC? It seems like you've met him.

People talking about prioritizing a couple of offensive guards over Cam fucking Coleman or getting right at the RB position are basically somewhere between midwit and dipshit.

Uhmm, you don't want to be absolute trash anywhere (and I'm pretty sure we won't be next year), but literally the least important position on a football field is either TE or OG. Have some fucking perspective.

It's like the first quarter of a game thread with a cadre of the usual suspects going full blown chicken little. You'd think they'd never watched any football before.

For the record, anytime I've said "ballgame" when our opponent went up 3-0 in the first quarter, it was merely PTSD from when we had a tight end playing QB.

Well, until you don't have one apparently.

I’d rather not have a guard than not have a tackle, right? Or a QB? You cut the “don’t want to be absolute trash anywhere” but when’s the last time you heard anyone say- you know the key to that team winning the super bowl or national title was really their fucking guard play.

Nothing about concussions is funny.

I don’t know. There have been some hilariously bad responses to this thread that I think can only be attributed to either a concussion or alcoholism.

JJR is smart and willing to mix it up. Is he just not athletic enough to get it done- if it came down to that?

I'd like another safety before I'd like another edge, but it's not a super pressing need I guess.

If JJR isn’t being converted to LB, they allegedly thought he’d be good at S.

Excuse you, sir? I hear this kind of commentary after the first Monday of April every year, thank you very much.

Oh, we agree. I just thought the statement was funny given our recent experience.

Anyone else miss the days when the most dramatic transfer drama was whether or not Desmond Harrison could qualify?

Just kidding

I am depressed

, safety is more important than people are giving it credit for. If you look at Muschamp’s defenses, especially at Georgia, their safeties were always some of the best players and made a ton of plays.

I’m not saying we don’t have talent, but based on what we’ve seen Vanderbilt (passing team) comes to mind I’m not convinced we’re set there. Muschamp’s defenses are aggressive, and you need safeties on the back end who can hold up. That’s why safety is a big need to me.

Also

Salaam had four consecutive 200-yard rushing games during the season, his best effort coming against the Texas Longhorns, when he set a school record with 362 yards total offense in a 34–31 win at Austin.

He was a little before my time of paying attention to Texas football. I've read many times on these boards how he torched us but gotdamn.

You can't win without a center. The nose guard would just immediately tackle the QB at the "snap".

What's infuriating is that Colorado still barely beat us, thanks to a lucky tipped pass that fell into the hands of Michael Westbrook on their final drive. We then gave up a 15-yard run by Salaam on 3rd and 9. It was a game we could have tied, or even won.

The entire experience was flat out wild. Suh and that DL had been good all year, but they went fucking nuts in that game. I knew all year that the OL was the biggest weakness on the team, but that game made them look like high schoolers. Yet, there we were, the #3 team in the country and just needed a win to go to the Rose Bowl.

I don’t remember which idiot WR had two steps on a defender only to drop what would have been a touchdown pass, but that added to the drama. Then McCoy holds the ball too long and almost blows the whole game-winning drive. Shawn Watson walks over when Nebraska thinks they won and is visibly talking shit to McCoy and Texas. Then they put one second back on the clock and Mack the Kicker Whisperer does his thing with Lawrence or whoever it was at the time.

Last game I took my dad to before he was too frail to handle the stadium walks. Thought he was having a heart attack on the final offensive play before the FG. The whole time I just kept thinking, “but this is Nebraska. there’s no way they’re winning this game, right?” and sure enough, they didn’t. The bitching about one second will never get old for me. Fuck those gasbags and I hope they’re enjoying college football hell.

I went to the game in Lincoln the next fall and I only regret that I did not buy one of the many :01 Husker shirts that were available around the stadium. I was sure we were going to lose, but we ended up rubbing their noses in it one more time as they fled the conference.

I’ve witnessed this IOL conundrum journey the past few years and have a possible solution. I’m just spitballing here, but it seems like Flood has done OK with the tackle positions the last few years. Banks, Williams, Baker and Goolsby. What if Sark instructs Flood to designate all interior linemen as tackles instead of guard or centers then apply coaching and evaluations to the interior tackle positions similar to what he has done on the outside. I’m confident it would unfuck Flood’s mind regarding IOL incompetency and resolve this issue.

Good for Stroh. A) its not his fault Flood completely mismanaged the OL and B) he was probably as surprised as anyone that he was named starter.

It was glorious, an older Nebraska lady turned to me after our first 2 drives and said "I don't have a good feeling about this"

They talked soooooo much shit before the game. Most of them left early, but those who remained were mad mad. They didn’t like us taunting them about leaving the conference, either. Or us reminding them that we completely own them. Still.

I was out that Friday night in Lincoln, pretty drunk and having a great time. I didn't realize how big the 1 second was to them because the ball obviously hit the ground with a second left, why would there be a controversy? Nebraska lady walks up to me:

Lady: Do you have a second?

Me: Sure, what's up?

Lady: No, do you have a SECOND?

Me: Yes, what do you need?

Lady: No, no, no DO YOU HAVE A SECOND?

Me: Yes, what do you want?

Lady storms off. Someone explained it to me later.

There is actually a photo out there somewhere of him condescending McCoy visibly. Maybe a video as well. It's pretty infuriating.

Right. When Mack got lazy in recruiting, he sewed the seeds to his downfall. He was elite on the recruiting end, that and kicker whispering were his elite traits, and when he betrayed his recruiting skills, he created his own doomsday machine.

If I recall correctly, Watson's offense somehow managed to lose 9-7 to Iowa State that year - in a game where the Nebraska D forced EIGHT turnovers. He might just be the worst OC in CFB history
