It doesn't seem to really make a difference to NFL evaluators whether a guy plays on the right or left side. The top 2 tackles in this year's draft play right tackle

I don't get it. And immediately after we worked to keep Goosby from the NFL. We need guards and a center and we keep bringing in tackles. Well, it didn't work the first two times, but this time I'm sure it will go great.

I believe ONTexas has said that Baker would be willing to kick inside this year. I guess the idea would be to get a RT and kick Baker inside. I do not get going after LTs with NFL aspirations. Seems like a hard sell to get them to move to RT in their contract year, but we shall see. 83.9 Pass grade from PFF and a 52 run grade. He seems like straight up LT with little versatility based on the run grade, but its not like I watched Colorado play this year.

It's because IMG Academy is there, so the players get labeled as being from Bradenton.

Seaton is from Washington, DC, he spent three years at St John's, a regional football powerhouse

The IMG football team was getting on a bus right next to my Uber at Newark back in October. My wife asked which pro team it was.

They melted our Saban statue down and made a toilet out of it for their office Paaaawl!

The expectation is that whoever lands him will be paying $3.5M and there are only a couple of schools willing to do that at this stage. If he visits Texas, then Texas decided to participate with eyes wide open.

Allegedly there is a growing sentiment that 1st round Tackles can play either RT or LT if they’re worthy of the pick and that they can come from either spot out of college.

If you haven’t watched him play, he’s a brick wall in the passing game and an indifferent run blocker. Motivate him through winning in a contract year and the run blocking can improve. It’s not like the dude doesn’t have great feet. Still, a right side of Baler and Goosby to run behind would be pretty inviting for Sarkisian.

A badass pass blocking LT is the kind of thing Manning's willingness to lower his ask for teammate acquisition is designed for. Will be interesting.

The sack number was actually 24.5, but the column's not equipped to handle that many digits.

I think you are getting your rights and lefts confused. For Baker to slide inside, someone has to take his tackle position.

#12027

That’s much lower than I expected. He's a guy who makes every person in the offense better.

Anyone know anything about his injuries last year? Can’t bring a guy like that in just for him to play 5 games. Then again, maybe you do if it helps you beat Ohio State

That said, it should be obvious we aren’t going to spend the effort to bring Goosby back and then shit on him.

Joe Cook: What offensive snap counts tell us about Texas' portal strategy and progress

As coaches, media members, and fans become accustomed to the new reality of building a roster in college football, a rational look at Texas’ portal departures and commitments is needed. Roster movement in college football used to be jarring. A player who you expected to be on the team for three to five years… left? He wants to leave so bad he’ll sit out a year? Now look at what we’re tracking. Evan’s two roster-centric articles, one on NFL-style roster building and another on creating depth, tremendously outlined the task at hand for modern college football coaches and roster builders. But how do they apply to Texas’ offense? The Longhorns have brought in five offensive players via the transfer portal so far. What do their snap numbers say? Here’s a look at the offensive version.

Hollywood Smothers, RB, NC State and Raleek Brown, RB, Arizona State

  • Career offensive snaps: 1593

  • Career offensive snaps leaving Texas via the portal: 1993

Smothers and Brown have been brought in as part of efforts to reshape the running back room. CJ Baxter, Tre Wisner, Jerrick Gibson, Christian Clark, Rickey Stewart, and walk-on Colin Page all hit the portal and deducted about 2000 career snaps from the roster. Just by the additions of Brown and Smothers alone, Texas is likely one player away from having a similar amount of experience back in Jabbar Juluke‘s running back room. Clark’s sudden departure stings, but Texas is trading out five scholarship players and a talented walk-on out for two players who will reside at or near the top of the depth chart for Texas with similar experience.

Cam Coleman, WR, Auburn

  • Career offensive snaps: 1265

  • Career offensive snaps leaving Texas via the portal: 1628

Like with running back, snaps may not tell the whole story. DeAndre Moore had two seasons of experience in the slot and Parker Livingstone saw plenty of action. Those two made up the bulk of the 1628 snaps. Coleman by himself has over 1200 career snaps compared to the 1628 put together by Moore, Livingstone, Jaime Ffrench, and Aaron Butler. Of course, the latter two barely played. Coleman’s talent is going to be measured by yards and touchdowns as opposed to snaps, but Texas didn’t lose valuable experience while bringing in talent. Oh by the way, Emmett Mosely and Ryan Wingo combine for 2123 career snaps. There’s going to be a veteran front line at wideout for the Longhorns for the first time since the 2023 season.

Dylan Sikorski, OL, Oregon State

  • Career offensive snaps: 444

  • Career offensive snaps leaving Texas via the portal: 604

Again, this exercise only uses snaps departing via the portal. Texas’ Cole Hutson and DJ Campbell exhausted their eligibility after the conclusion of the most recent season, leaving a major hole in the middle of the offensive line the portal will need to replace. Sikorski, even at the Pac-12 level, makes up a considerable amount of snaps and he was brought in to be a more developmental piece than to be an immediate starter. With Daniel Cruz, Nate Kibble, Connor Stroh, and Neto Umeozulu not logging very many snaps in their careers, Texas didn’t see many, if any, proven players walk out the door. This is a spot where Texas needs more additions in a big way, but Texas didn’t see longtime starters hit the door at a position of need.

Michael Masunas, TE, Michigan State

  • Career offensive snaps: 515

  • Career offensive snaps leaving Texas via the portal: 232

Masunas has twice the amount of snaps of Texas’ only portal departure from the tight end room in Jordan Washington. Masunas was probably brought in to do the job Washington wasn’t all that proficient at in 2025. Upgrade. More experience.

The snap counts seen above show where Texas has some work to do in the portal and where Texas has solidified its roster with quality players. Time will tell how the story ends, but so far it’s been a quality run of additions.

Pay Seaton 10 million and put him at guard.

2 hours ago, billfromlaketravis said:

IF we tampered Seaton into the portal, and maybe we did given his recent social media follows, I bet the plan is to move Goosby to RT.

OTF had a good interview with Trevor earlier this week, and he discussed playing both RT and LT. He seemed to have no preference. Just compared it to shooting a basketball left and right handed. You know how to do it with both hands, but you have to get the mechanics down. Bobby has it over and over again. Trevor is focused on getting stronger and filling out his body before he goes to the NFL. He wants to be a high quality starter from the jump. He probably prefers to stay at LT, but he’ll do whatever they ask of him.

It sounds like IF we manage to bring in Seaton, the move will be to shifter Baker inside to RG and put either Seaton or Goosby to RT, with other at LT. It also sounds like Goosby is fine playing either RT or LT, and views the two positions as being interchangeable. Seaton may be set on playing LT, but we're not sure about that either. I would assume it's better to have experience playing both tackle spots, because that makes you more versatile to any NFL team and more likely to be drafted, but at the same time I also know that LTs generally get paid more in the league. I would rather be putting tape out there of my play at LT, but I'm sure Goosby knows better than I do.

Honestly, though, I've got more confidence in Flood's management of the tackle position than I do of him evaluating IOL. He's done a good job with our tackles in the past, so hopefully he can sell Seaton / Goosby on playing where we need them and keeping the peace. $3.5 million is stout, but that's where we're at after whiffing on the guys from Michigan.

This board loves talking about wins from 20 years ago. And it REALLY loves talking about losses (or at least bad performances) from 20 years ago.

Did we beat Nebraska? I got the impression from reading this thread that we got our shit pushed in and that Colt "baby legs" McCoy was ritually sacrificed to some eldritch horror named Soo.
