Would yall rather Texas spend 3M on two guards and a swing tackle type or 3M on Seaton?

To me, it makes more sense to set a high floor at each OL spot than chase ceiling at the OT spots

Seaton would improve both a tackle and guard spot (when Baker slides inside). Only thing I'd worry about is durability since he had two separate leg issues this season.

Wait wait wait wait....apparently someone didn't enjoy an almost daily "fried Indian bread" from the trailer on the Co-op side of the Cattle Crossing, or on 21st near Littlefield Fountain circa 1987....

I just don't understand why anyone would get Indian food near campus at some place other than the Clay Pit.

That makes sense, but are those guys actually available? And are they interested in Texas? And is there not a bidding war going on for them?

I just don't think there's enough quality OL in the portal for us to be choosy or tight-fisted. I've come to hate the phrase "all in," but I don't think we should hold anything back this off season. We've got one more year of Manning. There's never going to be a better time to spend big on talent. And I know I'm being profligate with other people's money, but I would be saying the same thing if I were a BMD.

When On3 released its early schools to watch Monday night for the Colorado transfer, Oregon and Texas were mentioned as the top two schools to watch. Speaking with sources on Tuesday morning, Florida is another school worth monitoring. Texas A&M is not expected to be a top contender at this point, but the situation remains fluid. Other programs of note could include LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Texas Tech. Seaton has yet to officially enter the transfer portal, but is currently expected to take visits.

Well……since you asked, I’d rather spend $3M on Seaton AND $3M on (2) guards and a swing tackle should those opportunities present themselves

Stupid question. Show me the 3 players who are collectively asking for 3M to come to Texas vs Seaton who has a demonstrable connection with the program and an astronomical ceiling. Don't do this aggy "I'd rather have depth and culture fit than high dollar mercenaries" bullshit. If players are good enough, they're going to be mercenaries.

Correct, landing Seaton sures up 3 positions on the OL essentially

If the Seaton bidding starts at 2.5M, I imagine it'll end at about 4M

Starting Guard in the portal runs at about 600K to 1M. If Texas has 6M left to spend on OL they should be set

It might not mean much to you, but kids don't just start following multiple players from the same team if they're not DMing about recruitment. And that's just what the public can see.

There are more than people think. Looks like Davion Weatherspoon just entered the portal. 1st all-Mac guy from Ohio U. I love going in for Seaton, but the biggest thing for me is making sure there are no holes on the roster. I would love 5 NFL players on the OL, but I dont want to see anything like Stroh/Brooks Florida game this year.

I could see Vasek being pushed out. Has McClutcheon entered the portal yet? If not, I can see them clearing reps to get Bishop and Lockett more involved. Sark has said in the transfer portal era, freshman will be on the field more to justify their salary and to help keep them on the roster as most will dip. I could see Spencer Shannon dipping if the MSU guy, and Townsend/Winston are in front of him. JJR could be a casualty with McDonald, Williams, Filsame, Hicks, and possibly Filsame in front of him. I have not hear anything about Myron Charles. I know we've heard the staff likes him but it's just been quiet on his front, unless I missed something. DT is crowded with the Arky NG, Kanu, January, Watson, Sharma, Williamson, Charles, James Johnson. Just all speculation but there are still guys that can see the writing on the wall.

This isn't NCAA 2026. You don't get to just whip up scenarios and then go make them happen. There are not currently two OGs in the portal worth $1M+ each. I'm not seeing any swing Tackles fitting that description, either. Meanwhile, Texas has been working with the agent on Seaton's outlook and portal entrance for more than a month. How about taking what is actually available as a scenario and focusing commentary, hopes and fears, and whatever else floats your boat on that versus wishcasting and acting as though your premise is real?

There are not going to be this many schools that can meet the ask. Nakos clearly talked to Oregon, Texas, Florida and ATM. Two are in and two gave it the old "don't count us out!" The other programs are names dropped from the agent end. That serves Nakos just fine, as that is some hearty clickbait.

There are very few schools left standing with the dry powder this is going to require.

Miami could well think they could be a player, but they have no idea what danger their current roster could be in from an attrition aspect, as almost all other schools have already discovered.

Ole Miss doesn't have the juice and I'm skeptical of LSU, given how much they have committed in so many different directions already, especially since they're poor and spending money they don't even have after signing Leavitt.

Ohio State and Tech could be players if they want to be. It's got to sting Joey McDUI to have to go back to Campbell and say "I know we've committed millions in dead money this year to have Ojo wearing our jersey on the sideline, but I've also found this OT that we really need for 2026 and he's going to cost us double+ for what we're paying Ojo."

I think it was a biproduct of attempting to set a salary cap for university payments to players. They did not want to just make the scholarship limit a roster limit, as doing so looks bad for the student athletes, so they needed to raise the number when they switched from scholarship limits to roster limits. Now they can say that the new rules actually allowed additional scholarships, so its good for players.

I agree about some of these guys landing in programs where they will be lucky to choose the one with the most desirable degree in their field. I'm guessing others will have a really bad couple of weeks at their parents' house feeling like an embarrassed dog.

It sounds like IF we manage to bring in Seaton, the move will be to shifter Baker inside to RG and put either Seaton or Goosby to RT, with other at LT. It also sounds like Goosby is fine playing either RT or LT, and views the two positions as being interchangeable. Seaton may be set on playing LT, but we're not sure about that either. I would assume it's better to have experience playing both tackle spots, because that makes you more versatile to any NFL team and more likely to be drafted, but at the same time I also know that LTs generally get paid more in the league. I would rather be putting tape out there of my play at LT, but I'm sure Goosby knows better than I do.

Honestly, though, I've got more confidence in Flood's management of the tackle position than I do of him evaluating IOL. He's done a good job with our tackles in the past, so hopefully he can sell Seaton / Goosby on playing where we need them and keeping the peace. $3.5 million is stout, but that's where we're at after whiffing on the guys from Michigan.

You guys are weird.
