If JJR isn’t being converted to LB, they allegedly thought he’d be good at S.

JJR was starting to get some meaningful time two years ago under Gideon and then seemed to fall back with Akina. Wouldn't be surprised to see him re-emerge somewhere whether it's S, Nickel, or whatever.

There’s this thing called Title IX; so if we give football another 20 scholarships, we have to reduce 20 scholarships in other men’s sports or give female sports another 20 scholarships, which would require creating another female sport, which is way more expensive than the cost of 20 (really 40) scholarships. And since none of this is in a bubble, there’s probably a host of other obligations and considerations this would trigger.

@RomaVicta basically responded for me. Going to be lots of families wondering what the f did we just do this week. I’m sure some situations are sad but most have to be pure bonehead parents/greedy stinky mfers. Think someone should make a “Sad NIL Family?” Hotline this week. Lastly, I motion that any time someone wants to discuss Title XI, the post must start with “there’s this thing called title XI”. The extra..sassiness it adds to the tone/post is now necessary. If you want to add a “so” before it, it would make it that much better.

There’s been so scuttle on women’s gymnastics - both because it’s a huge SEC sport and because they can share the new Mini Moody facility with VB

I will add to this that in the "we can afford it because our revenue sports like football and basketball can afford it for them" we need a men's and women's official Lacrosse teams. It's a massively growing sport in the state of Texas. Sure, it'll probably take us 80 years to get to the level of Duke, Syracuse, ND, Ohio State, Loyola, John's Hopkins, etc, but I don't care, we'll all be dead, anyway. I just want to say "yeah, I member when we started those programs." Same with men's soccer. Then just add some IDGAF women's sports.

If we're being honest, title IX is retarded. I understand the why, but realistically this isn't the 70s anymore. Women have plenty of teams, it doesn't all have to be "equal" in the sense of men's athletics has X amount of scholarships, so now we add [whatever women's sport] needs the same amount. No, they don't. They really, really don't. Sports is about entertainment, and if a men's soccer team and M/W Lacrosse teams bring in fans, you should do it. We aren't a poor school.

The women to men ratio is is 3:2 just as students. And yes, I understand it's different, but at what point do you acknowledge that not everything in the world is equal in terms of relevance? Adding women's gymnastics and lacrosse + men's soccer and lacrosse doesn't have to be about numbers, anymore. Athletes from both sexes still getting the opportunity to play here. It's not like we're taking away teams to add another, thus creating another issue; it's sports, thus entertainment. Who cares if Timmy has 85 apples and Tina has 40? The sports wouldn't be revenue driving, as is. Not a single sport outside of football and basketball are raking in cash hand over fist, including baseball, where we're a already a blue blood with the third most NC's and most trips to Omaha. Yet both the baseball team and softball team are getting NIL deals and scholarships. Same wirh VB. Non-revenue sport, but people show the fuck up in support. You can't make money off of those programs. It's simply impossible, you know? It's why football and basketball carry the other sports, because they can afford to.

Women's gymnastics is awesome. Lacrosse kicks ass. Men's soccer has been popular in the state and long overdue for fucking ever. The NCAA might as well be inert at this junction. It's being phased out. It has no teeth.

The premise of this article is fucking useless, as the author himself notes a couple times. Great content, Joe.

The distinction is not as big as it once was.

There is still a fairly significant financial advantage to being distinguished as a LT though. The numbers at the top and at around 30 (say all starters) are about the same. The NFL is more willing to pay out for an average (10-20) starting LT though.

But does being a college RT necessarily mean you'll be a pro RT? Idk

As others have said, the top two OT prospects being mocked this year play RT. Guy from Miami and one from Utah.

Something I also wonder as an outsider, regarding NIL. How much does location and the team influence the dollar amount? Or is a pure highest bidder wins, and I will live in a crappy place with a losing team. Like volunteering to go to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL Draft.

I assume it varies by kid, as management is going for the $ and nothing else. But would a guy that you would have to pay $2.5 million to move to a team as bad as Florida (I feel the sting of writing that). Might going to a better place to live, for a little less, on a team that you might get a championship, make that ask a little flexible?

If you view this post as inane I do not care, as 72.5 percent of all Surly posts fall into that category. Now what about Sue? uh Suh?...

I could see Vasek being pushed out. Has McClutcheon entered the portal yet? If not, I can see them clearing reps to get Bishop and Lockett more involved. Sark has said in the transfer portal era, freshman will be on the field more to justify their salary and to help keep them on the roster as most will dip. I could see Spencer Shannon dipping if the MSU guy, and Townsend/Winston are in front of him. JJR could be a casualty with McDonald, Williams, Filsame, Hicks, and possibly Filsame in front of him. I have not hear anything about Myron Charles. I know we've heard the staff likes him but it's just been quiet on his front, unless I missed something. DT is crowded with the Arky NG, Kanu, January, Watson, Sharma, Williamson, Charles, James Johnson. Just all speculation but there are still guys that can see the writing on the wall.

So I get where you're coming from, but people need to remember you will never, and I never recruit HS players and them all be on the same trajectory. The McCutcheon pushed out for Bishop thing would be a never-ending loop, and that's just one position. Donors pay a lot of money, and most donors understand kids take time and get better year over year, or else you're going to end up disappointed every single year. The game is faster for 99% of HS kids starting their first year, or even after a RS year. You can't give up on players so quickly unless you have a backup plan that's a for sure upgrade, not what 247/On3/ESPN and fans/rankings expect. Sure, there will always be players that end up in your program and you know immediately they aren't a fit (for a plethora of reasons), so you can let them leave. But others have shown flashes at some point where you believe in another year or two that player or players will be starters or contributors.

We, as fans, like to have tunnel vision and see the warts during games and think "well they can fuck off, we'll just find another one in the portal." It just doesn't work that way, nor will it ever. The portal isn't a grocery store where you can just re-stock when you're disappointed. There is more trash in the portal than guys who will be starters and end up in the NFL or as major contributors, so you're already having to battle it out with 10-15 other programs and hope for the best. Yes, guys like Spencer Shannon who have been here for 3-4 years should most likely hit the portal if they have their degree (which he should at this point from all of the summer, spring, winter classes they take), but guys like Sharma and Charles, as talented as they are, are still freshmen or RS-FR who play a big boy position where you're going against other big boys and grown ass men. They take seasoning. January had to be played out of necessity, not because he was just that talented. Same with QBs. We all thought Sayin was fucking awesome until you look closer, and then you see he's a talented player, but even as a RS-FR with all the talent in the world around him still got beat tf up and made a lot of mistakes. Same for almost all positions.

My point is, you can't expect to just replace every player who doesn't become an alpha one or two seasons of playing. For every Cedric Benson, there are about 50 D'onta Foreman's. Same with all positions. Obviously fat needs trimming and roster needs churning each year, but giving up on an 18-year old immediately for struggling isn't wise, unless the staff just knows they fucked up or what have you.

(Justin Wells) Texas Longhorns Portal Recruiting Intel: Jordan Seaton, Joe Brunner, DE/EDGE talk

Inside Texas delivers the latest in transfer portal recruiting with news and notes on Jordan Seaton, Joe Brunner, and defensive end talk in Tuesday’s intel.

Jordan Seaton, OT, Colorado

The biggest fish in the portal landed yesterday. And Texas is certainly interested. Like Eric mentioned, Texas might have a pair of returning starting tackles, but they need to find the best five they can get. Seaton definitely falls into that category. Texas and Oregon are two teams to watch, Pete Nakos reported, confirming Eric’s Moderator Update. Seaton was the highest-graded true freshman offensive tackle in pass protection with at least 100 snaps, per PFF. He earned multiple preseason All-American and All-Big 12 nominations. In 2025, he was one of the country’s top pass-blockers, with a 91.4 grade through the first month of the season, according to PFF. Seaton earned second-team All-Big 12 team honors and midseason All-American according to multiple outlets. Now Florida, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, and more are attempting to jump into the fray for the ready-made starter. Stay tuned.

Joe Brunner, OL, Wisconsin

We’re still in the wait-and-see phase of the big Wisconsin O-lineman’s next move. Texas and Indiana are in the mix with what would most likely be an automatic starter at guard.

Caleb Herring, DE/EDGE, Tennessee

It appears Herring isn’t a take for Miami, sources tell IT. Texas and Miami were two schools mentioned in his recruitment. We’re checking if Texas is still pushing. Oklahoma State’s Wendell Gregory was another that appears Texas passed on, before he committed to Kansas State. We know there’s still a need to fill at that spot.

This is people's look into how a person actually is in real life. I have zero doubt he's probably not the best of people and is going to help teams erase themselves from recruiting him once they talk to him face to face. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I can't look past that. That's some shitty behavior, and undoubtedly it's more likely common with him.

Kids/young adults don't just wake up one day and think "You know, I think today I'm going to go against the grain and be a fucking asshole to a school that helped me try and live out my dreams of making the NFL, so I'll just fuck them over."

Just my two cents, but a lot of that is done, imo. I think it's more for playing time or fit. Given who Texas is chasing at the overhang positions, for example, it looks like there's going to be less playing time to be distributed for that big end that Kwiatkowski liked (which points to Vasek, Zina, and Jackson, and we know they love Jackson).

I'm sure you're right. And in any event, it does not appear we give a shit about the cap this season.

Did we ever get confirmation that Justus Terry has signed?

We were told originally that a deal was done but then an update late last week just said "things are trending the right way". Never saw anything after that.
