No but this team would have been even worse on offense without him. He is a super athlete learning to run routes. As your primary receiver, that's not great, paired with unreliable hands. One of the great things about college football is that the stronger players, defenders in this case, often leave after their junior year, which leaves Wingo as an upperclassman next year, against less experienced players he can physically potentially have even more upside on.

You have 3 4/5star freshmen (for now) who can do who knows what. Bishop looks like a demon. Moore sounds gone. We probably go big game hunting for one in the portal but it won’t be at the expense of a good OL or game changer at RB. Purely business decisions on both ends, I presume.
December 4Dec 4 I'm a little surprised to see Sark say that interior DL is a need, especially in such a straightforward way. Next year we'll have Kanu, January, Watson, Lavon Johnson (?), and then Terry/Sharma/Charles from last year's recruiting class. Seems like you could get a 4-man rotation out of that group, unless they're just really down on Watson and Johnson.

Supposedly Owens is gone. Arch is the starter with Lacey backing him up. I could see going out and getting another Caldwell-type, just for an emergency. RB: Sark says "potentially". Conventional wisdom says they'll be looking for a potential starter. Expecting this room to clear out quite a bit. WR: Personally, I could see us passing. We have a lot of numbers here and plenty of needs elsewhere. Latest reporting I've seen is that they'd like to keep the young guys around if they can. TE: Not a big need, especially if Endries is back. They like the young guys on the roster. Maybe a blocking surface if Shannon moves on. OT: Starters are set, but how good do they feel about the 3rd option if someone gets injured? Dunno how you bring in a portal option to be your 3rd tackle, though. IOL: Dear God yes. Dire need. Two guys AT LEAST, please. DE: Good numbers, and good quality already on the roster. Expensive. I think we're set. DT: Acknowledged by Sark as a need. Seems like the numbers are OK. Either they must not love Watson or believe the young guys aren't ready yet. LB: Sark says "potentially". Seems like a need, because you have Lefau, Smith, and then nothing. CB: Losing Muhammad, but seems like we're in OK shape here with Littleton/Black/Phillips. S: Depends on a lot of things. Does McDonald return? Is Derek Williams SEC starter quality? Jonah Williams going to focus on baseball? I'm guessing this is why Sark said "potentially".
December 4Dec 4 DL: We’ve been amazing at high pressure short yardage stops in recent years. A big part of that is the ability to trot a fresh behemoth of 0/1 tech out there for one play of all out maniacal effort. Sounds like Sark will be shopping for another one of them. RB: Just make the one year investment. Please. It will be worth it. WR: See RB. LB/DB: If it’s a good fit, then why not. IOL: Don’t let perfect get in the way of good. There will be acceptable options looking to play up.
December 4Dec 4 Isn't Spence back? I mean I don't care one way or another getting a LB as it will not be enough to replace Hill's play making, but whatever. Atkinson, as good as he may be, doesn't even play the same position, but Barnes does, and well, he hasn't played any. Sark will always go to the portal for a WR, regardless of who we have. You can never have enough explosive talent with hands coached up by someone else. We need a RB in the worst way. I love Wisner, but I love a RB that can punish people, and he's simply not that guy. I don't think we're landing a Justice Haynes (MOTHERFUCKER!) or a Hardy, and I certainly don't think we're getting anyone close to Love, but that doesn't mean we can't land a potential 1k back. I understand him not wanting to relinquish starter minuttes and carries, but he's a smart kid and he will understand one way or another that winning involves a good running team, and even as an aggy and sooner slayer, he's pedestrian against everyone else. Baxter, I'm sure, will be back, I'm fine with it as it gives him an extra year of getting back to playing shape. He was used sparsely, and I get it. Next season we should hopefully have a stud portal back to go with Baxter, Simon, Clark, and Cooper. Maybe Wisner, but doubt. OL is no shit. Interior DL is also no shit. DB is a bit surprising. Derek Williams just came back from an ACL injury, so I expect him to get back to some normalcy next season. Not sure we really need a DB since we have Black, Littleton, and Phillips to fight with Santana Wilson, Wardell Mack, and Caleb Chester to the death. I assume it's due to age, which I get. Those are all young bucks with little to no experience outside of Littleton and possibly Black. Philips got some run towards the end of the season. TE I think we need one even if/when Endries leaves unless it's a guy you can't pass on. Otherwise we still have Washington, Townsend, Winston, but I guess we could use a fouth if they're not some JAG.

I just know Barnes is an off-ball LB like Hill, but Atkinson can play side to side as an inside. Regardless, it should be interesting to see how the LB corps shakes out.

Jonah Williams going to focus on baseball? I'm guessing this is why Sark said "potentially". “Potentially” means a couple of things depending upon the position. 1) They’ve done everything they can to not spook Cooper before he arrives on campus. They had to sell the Georgetown guy to him as a non-threat. They’re not going to come out and say “yep, got to get us a top line RB to get that room in order”. Some of you guys have been really dense about the RB room and Cooper this whole cycle. 2) “Potentially” at other positions likely indicates ongoing conversations with current roster players about staying or leaving. Beyond that, you didn’t mention Barnes at LB, who is hardly “nothing”, Jesus. At DT, they don’t have anyone to replace Brevard besides Sharma, and he’s an unknown quality. Getting a known entity from the portal to support that spot is likely viewed as critical, and I’d agree.
December 4Dec 4 It takes man strength to play that tackle spot and that takes 2-3 years to develop outside of freaks of nature. Getting a good one from the portal every year seems like a solid strategy there.

December 4Dec 4 Popular Post Cross posting from the 2026 roster thread. FCB put out some info about guys making decisions: Wisner- Considering turning pro Moore- Considering turning pro Muhammad- Considering turning pro, likely to do so Hill- Most likely of anyone to turn pro Kanu- "I'm hearing Kanu wants to turn pro but might be willing to listen if Texas shows him how much he's appreciated." McDonald- "sources indicate Texas is making an attractive offer to entice McDonald to return for his senior season in 2026, and from what I've heard, McDonald is seriously considering returning next season." Endries- "Endries walked for Senior Night, raising questions about if Texas had low-balled Endries in terms of NIL money for 2026. We'll see." Robertson- "Robertson walked for Senior Night, indicating the former Austin Westlake O-lineman might be ready to move on." Brad Spence- Good chance to return Goosby- Good chance to return Edited December 4Dec 4 by Hookem2147

You would think that between Barnes and Atkinson, both guys who were considered by some to be the top LBs in their class, you have at least one guy who can credibly spell the starters. If Brad Spence is coming back, he could give you snaps in a pinch. Based on what I saw from him this year, he may be an improvement on the Trey Moore LB snaps. Tend to agree with you that we'd ideally bring in one guy with proven ability in a year where we need to make noise. Edited December 4Dec 4 by Jimmy Two Times
December 4Dec 4 I think Spence is what the coaches hoped Moore would be at LB this year. Spence is much more versatile and he even looks to be equally good at rushing the passer. I'm sure we will get some hometown diamond from another team this year to address a pressing need. We spend a lot of time hoping that we are reaching out to studs and their agents, but we forget that the past narrative of Texas kids being spurned by Texas is now working to our advantage. That's how we got a guy like Spence from Klein Forest. I'm sure moving forward there will be guys reaching out trying to jump in the boat to come back home and that pleases me greatly. Especially if it leads to the detriment of rival opponents. My heart breaks for them...
