No shit.

1890 - 2015: Texas plays in tons of Bowl games - maybe 5-6 of which have a bearing on the NC. Bowls are great!

2015 - Present: Texas plays in those exact same bowls. Bowls are boring and a waste of time....

ok

What boards were you on? Texas fans have been bitching about the Holiday, Alamo, and other disappointing bowl destinations forever.

Selective amnesia, I guess. Complaining about missing out on the NY6 and ending up in 2nd tier bowls, i get. I certainly don't remember the majority of posters advocating for forfeiting the game because they are a "total waste of time."

But then again, I try to steer clear from the football boards given the high level of regardedness on display

It’s also fun for our program, a bowl we’ve never played in before. It’s the premier non-CFP bowl for the SEC now

I personally would enjoy beating the fuck out of a disinterested and disorganized helmet school that I dislike, but that's just me.

This. It’s more Longhorn football and should be enjoyable

I’ll be in Orlando during the citrus bowl. Hell may even go. But yeah I’m not happy about it so fuck off lol

Its also a Texas Football game.

We get posters on this board salivating over the prospect of watching Cincinnati play Central Michigan in Week 0 because we're so desperate to watch CFB.

But sure, fuck watching Texas play Michigan

Saying the practices are the most important part doesn't mean you want to forfeit the game. I don't want to forfeit the game.

Also, the NY6 bowls are all playoff games now. People are actually complaining about the same thing they always have.

Dude, Texas fans nicknamed Mack Brown after the Holiday Bowl for a while and the vast majority of Texas fans were complaining about going there by the 2003 season and how it was a waste of time.

I'm not saying any of it was right or wrong, just pointing out that saying Texas fans being disappointed and bitchy about their postseason bowl game didn't happen until 2016 is just plain false.

In relation to the conversation about how to recruit high school going forward, I had a really interesting conversation with a friend who is the grandmother of a 10 year old kid in California that is supposedly already getting massive recruiting attention.

She’s not a huge football fan but said that a bunch of the major programs have already been hounding them and have offered scholarships. At age 10. Amazing how deep the recruiting goes these days. I asked if Texas is in there but she didn’t know.

Kid actually played very well this year. But it is still probably best he stays as far away from home as he can.

I see you are doubling down on your literal interpretation of what an “offer” to a 10 year old means.

Do you honestly believe that presenting a “offer” to young kids involves actually pulling out official offer documents and giving them to the family? Come on. You are being completely obtuse.

The point, as I already explained again in the second post to help you see your obtuseness, is that there are college programs that know who this kids is, they are following him, they are talking to the family and “offering” them scholarships. It doesn’t take much thought to understand that these offers are about as official as one would expect them to be. Good grief.

And I really feel bad about not providing enough proof to satisfy the demanding posters on Surly so here :

Cry more dickface

So, if things go like people are suggesting: Michigan fires their coach, hires Alabama's coach, who is replaced by the new LSU coach, who is replaced by Notre Dame's coach, who is replaced by the head coach at St. Joseph HS in Chicago.

That's a lot of potential portal transfers.

Oh and show me where I brought that to the thread and not responding to what was already in the thread. I’ll wait.

I have no interest in dignifying your incel whining with a meaningful response. Negged.

I fucking loved those holiday bowls. I wish Texas would have been in better bowl games, but they were still fun as fuck games. I'm going to go get drunk and rewatch the Washington holiday bowl now.

OTF mods quite vocally shot this idiocy down by saying that yes Terry is happy in Austin, at UT, and the defensive staff is expecting more from/for him.  Pretty much confirmed wishcasting from UGA fans/mods and whichever Texas fans need something to publicly clutch their pearls about today.

He may have, but most freshman all Americans are so because they play a ton as a freshman on a bad team and then you never ever really hear about them again.

Randy Moss was a freshman all-American, but to your point, I have no idea how he did after that.

So was Patrick Vahe. Taureen York, Chase Bisontis, Conner Wegman, Zach Shackleford, caden Stearns.

Jeremiah smith, Colin Simmons, Ahmad Hardy, Ryan Williams, Dylan Stewart. Scrubs. As with any media list there’s good and bad. Better to be recognized than not I suppose.

For more recent data Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams were freshmen all-Americans, but who knows if they’ll be worth a shit in the future.

^^^ beat me to it.

Caden Sterns started 3 years in the league. We would take Bisontis right this second.

I know we're supposed to think these guys are super jaggy, but we're also losing a lot of depth/development pieces in the secondary.

Right now our in-house options are Jonah Williams to replace Taafe and true frosh Zelus Hicks.

2nd string nickel is a walk-on who's major contribution is making the honor roll twice.  In the Big 12.

Obviously this exaggerates things because we can move guys around (Gerry and Bobby think Kobe Black goes to safety, for example), but I think it's going to be hard to recruit back-ups into programs, which basically means you're churning through portal dudes every season and selling them on playing in a rotation (and then they portal back out when it's clear they don't have the athleticism/experience to start).

I don't think Mack is a jag at all.

One would hope that the staff has a plan because otherwise how can they let Mack go? He's far from a bad player.

I'm not sure that means anything, as they've said almost all of the outgoing portals are practicing (including Stroh).

Maybe that's more out of financial obligation than some other reason.

Kinda makes me think about college baseball - you can recruit all top dudes because they go pro and you’re left with nothing. It’s the teams that get the best of the 2nd and 3rd tier guys that end up being really good.
