Texas finished its first week of bowl practice.

There are a number of opt outs, almost exclusively on defense.

- Anthony Hill (NFL)

- Manny Muhammad

- Michael Taaffe

- Trey Moore

- Ethan Burke

- Jaylon Guilbeau

**

Muhammad has not announced his intentions to go pro a year early although that is the expectation.

**

Tight end Jack Endries is likely headed to the NFL but has not made an announcement either. (We've seen conflicting info on Endries, but this is the most sure I've a 9.95 be yet. Unfortunate for us, as I feel he'd be a big weapon next season)

Endries is expected to play in the bowl game.

**

Players who have announced for the portal are not expected to play in the game.

That list includes:

- Trey Owens

- CJ Baxter

- Connor Stroh

- Derek Williams

- Santana Wilson

IT with the likelihood a handful of players return

Potential Transfer Players

WR DeAndre Moore: IT thinks it’s likely the junior receiver will test his best financial option, whether that’s through the portal or the NFL Draft. This would be one of those tough choices for Sark, as Moore is held in a favorable light within the program.
Percentage: 20%

OL Connor Robertson: After finally getting real playing time, we’ve wondered if he’ll give up the sport or come back for one more season. After the A&M win, he looked somewhat satisfied with the way the year played out. We think Texas is working to keep him, however.
Percentage: 40%

OL Nate Kibble: IT had heard the young guard would test his options in the portal, but the staff has done a great job of explaining the big picture to him. He is in their plans.
Percentage: 85%

Edge Colton Vasek: There’s been a lot of talk about the local Edge entering the portal, but he is still practicing. Does that have something to do with Ethan Burke not playing? That gives him the chance for more snaps and perhaps to increase his transfer value. Or is he simply staying? I have not received great recent intel on his intentions. He’s a talented player but snakebitten when it comes to injuries.
Percentage: 50%

CB Kobe Black: The A&M game and thinning of the depth chart has Black’s return on a good trend line.
Percentage: 85%

CB Wardell Mack: The fact he’s still practicing gives Texas a chance to keep him, I suppose, but a coaching change, at minimum, likely needs to happen to have a chance. I hope he sticks because they’ve invested a lot of time in preparing him for Star/nickel.
Percentage: 25%

There could be more players in question, but these are the ones we’re focused on. I don’t have a great feel for the tight ends. We’ve heard Will Randle will transfer, but everything else has been quiet.

Potential NFL Players

OL Trevor Goosby: Texas has been preparing to keep Goosby all season. Everyone knows the importance of securing Manning’s blindside for next season and Goosby stands to benefit substantially from another year. He’s still a young guy.
Percentage: 70%

DT Hero Kanu: He’s made strong relationships in his short time at Texas and played well in his first year. Texas has a great selling point of developing older D-tackles and improving their draft slot. That is resonating.
Percentage: 75%

S Jelani McDonald: He understands if he returns he can be the first safety off the board in the 2027 NFL Draft. Texas knows getting him back is imperative. This one makes too much sense for both parties.
Percentage: 75%

Even when healthy, Vasek hasn't shown much explosion off the edge. Ok with him moving on.

Keeping Robertson would help if Sark holds his dick and doesn't land anyone better in the portal.

Pay the last three on the list their due.  As in top of the market portal money.  They are better than anything else on the roster or anything else that will be gettable in the portal.

Totally those guys are actually productive - just reallocate the NIL $ from the above guys.

Surprised Endries wasn't mentioned anywhere in this.

This would be one of those tough choices for Sark, as Moore is held in a favorable light within the program.

Programs with selective accountability don't typically end well. I hope this statement does not imply that Moore is increasing his already high demands and Sark is refusing to point out his obvious lack of focus at key times during games.

I'm bearish on Endries' draft range, although I'm suppose it's iffy on how much he'd improve it by coming back. He's not a blocker, and he's also nothing special as a receiver to justify not being a blocker in the NFL

The Burke and Vasek experience has taught me that Westlake dads are as dumb as I thought they were when they proclaimed Vasek as the superior college recruit.

Meh only 26 snaps on offense this year. Not much of an answer to the problem

Others thought that as well.  That's what Glasscock told a group of us, too. Said Burke would get passed over.  Love that Burke proved them wrong.

FIFY

After Lil’ Nigel finishes his eligibility, I may go into more detail on our experience with the 9.95 recruiting guys.  It’s just a matter wanting to deal with the pushback I would get for messing with people’s paradigms.

Was looking at NFL mock drafts tonight, because unfortunately I’m a Cowboys fan and the draft is the only thing I have to look forward to every year, and Goosby is popping up in the first round now on a lot of the big ones. CBS had him in the top 10.

I know the mock draft people are largely morons, but I think it’s worth noting when the movement becomes big enough across the board.

The run on Longhorns headed to the portal has slowed precipitously.

There’s been no real movement since the middle of last week.

Which begs the next question.

Will there be another run after the bowl game?

Probably so.

Behind the scenes, there have been multiple discussions from players contemplating their next steps.

But what I think we’re down to now is a group of players who would rather be at Texas than elsewhere and who are yet to be resigned to not being a major contributor next year.

In other words, the players in the portal currently are ones who saw no real path forward to meet their personal goals. The ones who have stayed still feel like there’s a path.

So we’ll wait to hear more about bowl practice, which players are stepping up and perhaps creating a path for themselves into next season, which players aren’t, and then we’ll go from there.

Of course the bowl game itself will tell us a lot, particularly on defense where the Horns will be down six starters. There’s plenty of opportunity for players to show us who they are and what they’ve got.

**

Based on Gerry Hamilton’s reporting, it will be unsurprising if Michigan signee Malakai Lee either receives his release from the Wolverines or eventually enters his name into the transfer portal.

Steve Sarkisian has had real success with a Michigan signee previously, that being first-round pick Xavier Worthy.

Lee, who is 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, was long identified by Texas as that same level of a potential difference maker on the OL. Of course, it typically takes OLs longer than receivers to play in college, but Lee is thought to be an extremely high level prospect.

Is Lagway bolting because Florida sucks.  Or new coaching staff and talent behind him gonna pass up

Coaching change and another chance to get paid.

Sounds like a number of players are starting to realize that there aren't greener pastures for them elsewhere in which they can get paid gobs of money while not being WR1 or TE1 or OG1 talent (yet). We'll all wait and see, and I'm sure a number of guys are still heading out, but the count so far has been less than expected. It's been assumed that some groups will be throwing crazy money around in the portal and maybe that's not happening (yet).

I’m curious what people connected to Florida think. Thus far he has not been worth the money he is paid between injuries and his own team playing poorly.

Lagway seems to think interceptions count towards his completion %.

I have a really tough time seeing Lagway at LSU.

Lagway has more INTs than TDs against P4 opponents. And it wasn't like that Florida offense was lacking talent.

He also isn't much of a runner and is hurt every other game. That doesn't really add up to someone Lane Kiffin would be chasing.

He's obviously not The Dude but mentioning for posterity

You wouldn't think Kiffin would want his first qb at LSU to be a project.

Am I to understand you hold them in a higher esteem now that you've been inside the fishbowl?

Because I don't think the dominant perception here is they possess any particular acumen besides a high tolerance for flattering idiot teenagers in exchange for access.

Quite the opposite, sir.  And while that may be the overall sentiment, I find most don't realize (or care) that they have built their entire framework of following recruiting, who should play, coaches developing or not developing players, etc., around these guys that are really, at most, only organizing a small percentage of names for people to follow.

Baugh non-update from Nahlin

Given the hiring of Jabbar Juluke from Florida, we're following the intentions of running back Jadan Baugh with a bit more interest than a week ago. Could he really enter the portal?

Here's the latest.

The stud Florida running back is well aware of Texas' interest in should he elect to test his market value. Florida's main issue right now, and the hold up—it has yet to name a replacement for Juluke. Candidates include Tim Harris, Derrick Nix, and Chad Scott.

Tim Harris is currently the receivers coach at Florida State but has served as running backs coach at previous stops, including Miami, UCF, and FIU.

Derrick Nix is currently at Auburn but made his name at Ole Miss where he was both running backs and wide receivers coach. Florida already hired Marcus Davis from Auburn to coach wide receivers.

Chad Scott, well, you know Chad Scott. He was at West Virginia for a while before serving as Texas' running backs coach this past year. He was fired because, as best we can tell, Juluke was made available.

I must say, this is interesting. Jabbar Juluke not only has the relationship with Baugh, he also has the best resume at the position.

I was expecting to hear the Baugh affair would be wrapped up for Florida today or tomorrow. Instead I heard this.

My source has been adamant Baugh would remain in Florida but admitted to being a little less certain today.

Speculate away!

People pay for that? With real money?

I would assume that Kiffin will try to persuade Chambliss or Simmons to join him in Baton Rouge.

What the heck is this supposed to mean? "Preparing to keep him all season"

It makes all the sense in the world Baugh would be a priority for Sumralls initial NIL roster. Obviously I would take him but I'm still stuck on the Kewan Lacy idea.

This is tease bait

Baugh isn't going anywhere. Florida is going to pay him to stay

Super psyched that a 4-win team, with a dead man walking coach, and a QB they don't want knocked us out of the playoffs.

Yeah, but as many of us have learned in life, Jaden Baugh has a say as well. So is he invested in Sumrall's rebuild? Or does he want a one year showcase?
