I wish we would have played Bolden more over Moore in the slot last year.

Sure, but he only made it two seconds into those 463 snaps before he was too tired to continue.

Just curious, do we know if @BurntOrange&White is still pissed Sark is being lazy and hasn't signed anyone out of the portal yet?  With all this talent available I'm sure he's concerned.

Monday Portal Mash Up | December 22nd

Latest on the Portal Entrances and Rumors

***

The news of DeAndre Moore's departure should not come as a surprise for anyone who has been following OTF for the last month. Though, the destination likely comes as a new twist. Moore was originally expected to enter the NFL Draft.

From an outsiders' view, the loss of DeAndre Moore is significant.

However, this was a move that had been building up more and more in the past. You can revisit a post I made on OTF from December 9th that alluded to Moore departing. So in reality, this announcement did not catch anyone off guard inside of Moncrief.

But there is something else I wanted to mention in regards to the news of Moore's departure.

The Longhorns sit currently at 12 portal announcements. Following the 2024 season, Texas saw a total of 13 players enter the portal. The only one to record a career start was the kicker, Bert Auburn. I still expect this number to rise to the high teens with 20 portal departures still on the table.

Looking back, Texas did not lose anyone a year ago who contributed on a week to week basis.

That is not the case this season.

Already, five players who have entered the portal from Texas' 2025 roster have started a game in their career. In fact, there were a combined 54 starts among those five players.

Their departures are obviously is two-fold.

The Bad: Leadership voids created.

For a guy like DeAndre Moore, he was a lead-by-example guy. Moore came in every day with the idea to be the first on the field for practice and to win his job by hard work and attention to detail. He did exactly that.

Liona Lefau, much of the same. Lefau was a quieter guy by nature, but on the field he was as sturdy a player you could find.

And of course, CJ Baxter. Very high character prospect who, even when injured, was a significant contributor to the locker room and culture behind the scenes.

The Good: Texas is going all in.

We have said it time and time again, but for folks still not fully on the train here, in no other portal offseason had we seen Texas willingly let a guy like DeAndre Moore or Liona Lefau depart. Shoot, a CJ Baxter would have been retained.

If Texas is comfortable in allowing guys with starting level experience walk out the door, that means they are equipped and prepared to replace when the portal opens.

***

What hasn't and won't change is this: Texas is set to be as aggressive as they have ever been in the portal this winter.

Nationwide, there are plenty of large, all-conference level players who have yet to announce their intention to enter the portal. There are some former five-star names that will enter who would certainly move the needle for Texas.

Some of those five-stars were on campus in high school while being recruited by Texas. Does that mean they will have a Longhorn logo on their helmet, no. But this is to point out more movement is obviously expected.

The portal opens officially in 11 days.

The Citrus Bowl kicks off in 9 days.

Expect plenty of movement in the time leading up and immediately following both. Without tipping my hand too much, my expectation is Texas will be replacing previously starter-level players with all-conference-level players out of the portal.

Again. All-in for 2026.

Arkansas was one of the worst defenses in the country. Gotta see how he graded out and scout him closely after being part of that abysmal unit.

True but we have a need for situational players as well. He could be a good goalline player.

Hero, January, Terry is a nice start inside. Watson was a slight letdown but should inprove in his 3rd college season. I wonder if we swap him out for a more fatbody 1 tech

Do Sharma and Charlse factor into next year's rotation?

I personally don't have an issue with Moore. He dropped some passes, but he made some good ones, too. I do believe he was first at practice, but he's limited athletically. He's not J-Whitt where he can break everything his body has to offer and still come back and make an impact.

I don't know what his asking price is, but if it's above the minimum he has to go. He hasn't proven to be a reliable WR, and we have a plethora of young guys who will be ready. McCutcheon will be an absolute beast. That kid has great hands and speed for days. Jury is still out on Lockett, Ffrench, and Terry, but they're talented enough to find a place on the field, imo. I do wonder if Sark will take a transfer this year, or if this will be the first year he passes unless that kid is Ryan Williams, Antonio Williams, TJ Moore, Cam Coleman (even though he's basically Wingo 2.0) or Bryant Wesco, Jr. Other than that, I don't see any guys who will make an impact. We already have Mosley, Wingo, Alan Jackson, McCutcheon, Ffrench, Lockett, Townsend, Winston. (Even though both are TE's with amazing hands), Endries if he comes back, and now we have Jermaine Bishop. That's a lot of bodies.

@immamac Have you heard anything regarding Endries if he's staying or leaving? Would love to have him back.

The endries thing is super simple. He wants to declare, but he doesn't wanna go undrafted or get fucked into the irrelevant rounds. If he hears feedback that he needs one more year he's coming back, and to Texas - he's not considering another destination and neither is Texas considering not bringing him back as TE1.

Nice. That's great to hear. He was really coming up big later in the season and he's a very good TE that I believe needs one more season to get on the same page as Arch. He has the talent, so in a way I hope he gets good feedback and gets to live his dream, but then I also want him to come back because he can do so much damage. Whatever Sark is doing, he's on a mission. He doesn't seem lackadaisical and is getting after it. He knows it's time for Arch to take that next step. We hcw the pieces around him for receiving, we just need to find a RB like Lacy or Baugh to pass block, pass catch, and rack up murder charges.

He does not strike me as a guy who will go prior to about the fifth round. Sounds like he needs to come back to me.

What other TEs are there this year? Stowers from Vandy and the Oregon kid? Maybe the Buckeyes TE? Kind of like last year when it was two dudes and a bunch of "others mentioned." He could probably go anywhere from 3rd to 6th round. Hopefully a projection that broad has him back. He seemed to really pick up as the year went on.

Endries and Klare have similar numbers, so I don't know what that will prove. He (Klare) had an easier schedule, better QB, yet his numbers aren't eye-popping. He did get 400 yards receiving, but only 2 TDs. His YAC is less than Endries even with him having over 100 yards more @ 10.4 yac, Endries had 11.1 yac with 300 yards and 2 TDs. But you also have to take into account that he was vying for catches with arguably the two best WR's in CFB, Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate. That would be difficult.

The only TE's I see worth a pick are Stowers and Kenyon Sadiq, who respectfully had 500 yards and 8 TDs, while Stowers had 750 yards and 5 TD's. It looks like Stowers is the real deal considering he fucking killed us and has amazing hands. I don't know anything about the Ore TE, other than he has 3 more TD's but 250 less receiving yards. Ore does have a good WR in Malik Benson, so that's a solid 1-2 punch. Their RB, Whittingham is good, too. He won't be a star in the NFL, but he will be serviceable.

Stowers is a stud. Whomever draft him will have a gem on their hands. He's a freak.

Ryan Williams is garbage and quickly found out it’s fucking stupid to be the youngest person on a football field unless you’re about to negotiate your 2nd NFL contract. That QB from Ole Miss that finished high school 2 years early and has ridden the bench for 3 years now learned that too.

How can we be sure he'll produce?

Just get him on campus, we’ll see if he can mix it up in the spring.
