The whole angle of how much Arkansas hates Texas and Texas just isn't ready for the hate is incredibly overrated.  There might be memories of a rivalry for the old timers, but it simply isn't a major

Fayettenam, by contrast, is well established historically and still appropriate.

I’m not sure there’s a better mascot to fan base correlation in all of sports than the feral pig is to Arkansas fans

I still believe in these guys. Get it done tomorrow. We stopped their offense tonight when we weren't walking and hitting people.

Let's go.

Go for broke tomorrow. Getting swept by the second place team is a great way to fuck up the wet dream that is a 5 game lead.

Said it after the Auburn series that it felt like this series would decide the sec champ.

that was before we opened up a 5 game lead with 9 to go.

tomorrow becomes a pretty damn critical game all of a sudden

Schloss said from day 1 in fall ball that we had a good team but our best players were going to need to carry a heavy load and stay healthy because the depth wasn’t there.

Our team leader at SS is hitting .180 in SEC play, our Friday night starter is out for the season, our best hitter hasn’t played in almost 2 months and our prized portal pickup in the outfield has been relegated to spot starts against Prairie View A&M.

I think we all mentioned/feared getting out-talented at some point despite how well we’ve played for 3 months and it’s now staring us in the face. Have to respond.

We got Grubbs, burns, and volantis still available, we just gotta hit. Take our M# down to 3

We simply cannot let this weekend unravel us to the point we collapse going down the stretch and lose 10 or 12 in a row.

And if you don't think that can happen, then you haven't watched enough baseball.

Our supposed leaders, like the shortstop and the starting pitchers, need to pull their head out their ass.

Pitching will be there tomorrow.

Bats ( especially top of lineup) is a huge ?????. Jalin needs to drop further in the order. Damn designated out right now.

Jalin is a black hole at the plate.  Nearly an automatic out.

I’m pretty pissed off about how flat we seem. This is a rivalry matchup, but our players don’t seem to know it. I know these players weren’t alive when it was an heated rivalry, but Arkansas sure is playing fired up like they haven’t forgotten. It kinda reminds me of when we went to Arkansas for football in Sark’s first year. Someone needs to make sure our players know that these teams are going play up when Texas comes to town so we better start treating them the same way

They didn't exactly hit the cover off the ball today.  Walking and hitting people gives us no chance.  Because their pitchers dont do that.  Just throw strikes.

and grooving 0-2 pitches with 2 outs.

The sheer amount of strikeouts by our guys in this series is beyond troubling.

Like double trouble or something like that.

we were in a great rhythm with Spencer shutting people down on Friday and demoralizing them.  that is gone.  someone is going to need to step up on the hill big time.

Bottom 3rd of the order tomorrow should be

7. Jalin

8. Will

9. Borba

Just out of principle

I’m going to say it in hopes of a reverse jinx, but feel like we have the big bullpen guns all lined up to salvage tomorrow and they are going to shit down their leg like everyone else this weekend

hope I’m wrong.

hell at this point, I think I might even settle for the rest of the team putting them in a position where they have the opportunity to shit down their leg

I want to see how we look out of the gate in the first inning tomorrow.

Thursday, 3 stikeouts.  Friday, 2 strikeouts and a weak ground ball.

Top 3 hitters to start and they're not competitive, they're not ready.

Borba should have to play with a sign around his neck that says, "How many outs?"

Like a real big clunky one hanging on a cheap electroplated chain.

I've posted the solution multiple times.  They'll either figure it out or he and the rest of the team will continue to struggle.  Every team from here on out will pitch us the same way until we make the adjustment.

so like the opposite of the "turnover chain"?

Borba did have two hits, so I'll give him that, but he needs to go ahead and hit it over the fence because he is a disaster on the base paths.

He must have gone through the Pierce School of Base Running.

Valedictorian.

Unfortunately yes 👆.... needs to change shit up.

'stache and stubble beard isn't working for him. Needs to be clean shaven tomorrow (but he wont be) 🤷‍♂️

No, he's not a pitcher, but I thought this was a better clip (superstition) than "Fuck you, Jobu".

Other than that how was the play?

Well the biggest problem with Flores isn't one area.  He has no zone discipline at all.  He's swinging at fastballs up out of the zone and curve balls in the dirt and all kinds of shit outside.  He hasn't shown the ability to lay off of anything.

There may be a disconnect between Schloss and Tulo plate philosophy. Tulo was always an aggressive hitter and Schloss wants his guys to have OBPs 100 points higher than their BAs.

Well everyone would like to walk more but not everyone can. Guys end up always behind in the count and taking pitches early in the count that they can hit.

Schloss will get players in here that fit his philosophy. Tulo was extremely important in his transition here and keeping the roster together and selling them on what Schloss is building. I mean think about it if you're a young player, a guy like Tulo is basically a god and he passed up some good HC opportunities to have a chance to learn from Schloss. That's a pretty strong endorsement and one of the reasons we've gotten off to the start we have imo

No disagreement there.  However, the solution (look to hit the ball up the middle or opposite field) also addresses everything but the FB up in the zone.

When you're committed to going oppo, you see the ball longer because you let it travel (more time to lay off), your hips stay closed longer which extends your ability to cover the outer half (especially low/away), etc.  There's really only one swing-and-miss pitch and that's a heater in or up/in.

In contrast, when you're playing hero ball and trying to pull everything, everything BUT the FB can be a swing-and-miss pitch (you're out in front), your hips open early, you can't barrel up the outer half, and you're just early in general (which means you have to decide sooner...less time to see it).

When I was a kid, I remember my dad wouldn't wrap up BP until I hit 50 straight balls to the right side of 2B.  If I was in a slump, he'd up it.  It absolutely works.

I agree, but I could see us grinding out a 3-2 type of win. We have to cool off their hitters.

I mean, we could just try not walking them. This series is defined by free passes and strikeouts.

I don’t think he will be playing tomorrow. Gaspo might not be either.

This thread is in rare form tonight.  I guess losing checks notes two in a row calls for desperate measures.

Schloss runs the offense on gameday. It is his philosophy ruling over everything. He wholeheartedly believes that most college pitchers can’t throw strikes consistently. Us being in the top 5 nationally in pitches per plate appearance is proof his philosophy has taken hold. Tulo is the one working with the players on mechanical adjustments day to day. Same setup he had with Earley last year.

I think Schloss and Tulo are pretty aligned. If you remember that 2021 team we had where Tulo ran everything struck out a ton as well. Schloss has said openly that strikeouts don’t really bother him because his overall philosophy requires guys to be comfortable hitting with 2 strikes.

I think a lot of what we are seeing are the same guys who struggled with swing and miss last year against Big 12 pitching (Gasparino, Flores, Borba, Farmer) still having a lot of the same issues against better pitching. Which makes sense. These guys are good coaches but they ain’t miracle workers.

First series loss in May will do that to people

Shit, with where we are and what they are working with I’d argue they are

On the bright side, we no-hit Arkansas the final 5 innings

On the negative side, we also allowed 10 base runners in the final 5 innings

Excellent post. Schloss is absolutely correct in that most college pitchers can't throw strikes. The results this season bear that out.

When you run into a locked in, strike throwing pitching staff like Arky these last two nights and hot teams at the CWS, it gets tougher

it was really bad.  at first it looked like he was giving the FB a few inches off the plate outside but then curves easily 6 inches outside were getting called.  the ark catcher would set up on the outside AND reach and still get the call.

OK then the inside won't get called.  nope ark kept getting the inside and Duplantier couldn't get it.  We of course started chasing the pitch off the plate because we had to.

the guy playing baseball for ark state is just icing.

that said we lost because we didn't show up on either side to start the game.  which is part of the reason Schloss didnt really get into it with the ump until the end.

I am getting really sick of losing to pigs.

SEC ump committee: So, who we got for home plate in Fayettenam for Texas? Oh, the guy that grew up in Bentonville? Sounds good.

Like when we used to get officials from college station and west Texas, back in the Big 12 days

I don’t even get how shit like that get approved by the sec. Do they not even look at who the crew is? Are baseball crews independent organizations that the sec uses or just “sec baseball crews” that work strictly sec games only? Genuinely asking as I have no clue.

Fingers crossed for today, maybe we can save a little face and get outta town with a win.

Does technology exist that could remove the players from the screen?  If so, then have Blue watch the tape and explain which pitches are strikes and balls.  Then add the players back into it and see how many went which way.

I distinctly remember having that fuck head ump who grew up an aggy fan and lives in college station call our games against aggy in Austin. I chalked it up to timeline shenanigans.
