May 4May 4 https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4877717/matthew-caldwell Feels like 3rd string insurance to have someone who's been on the field so we don't have to play a true freshman and someone who might want to become a coach after their career who gets to put themselves under Sark Edited May 4May 4 by Teryor
May 4May 4 I assume he is coming here as basically a GA who plays to get a head start on a coaching career? Seems like he would be third string at best.
May 4May 4 Enjoy your QB coaching internship, and hopefully we don't get the point where we have to play him to protect KJ's redshirt.
May 4May 4 This is what Nahlin had to say. My initial assumption was that he would be getting the Cole Lourd role. "Over the last couple of weeks I've written there was still plenty of intrigue regarding QB2. I didn't know who Texas was adding but I was confident they'd add someone with experience. Sure, this is a bummer for Trey Owens and KJ Lacey but next year is too important to get derailed by an inexperienced QB. Plus, they can still go out and beat Matthew Caldwell. I hope they remain mentally engaged."

I can think of no good reasons to sit Lacey after 4 games, if he has had to play that many already. This stiff aint winning a national championship, so keep developing the guys that may be important weapons a year or two down the road. I get the sense Sark isnt going to struggle recruiting QB's, so there's always gonna be talent coming in later classes, and KJ has to show what hes got when given the opportunity.

I like my QBs to be able to see TEs & WRs crossing the middle. Of course “Team Arch” first, then “Team Trey”.
May 4May 4 I must be having one of those Mandela effect moments because I seem to recall adding a backup QB transfer several months ago (who had a lot of experience at lower levels) who was obviously coming in hopes to become the next Milwee. But I don’t see anyone like that on the roster. Found it, C.J. Rogers, from January. He was a preferred walk on, so if he did indeed transfer here, that may be why he doesn’t appear on the 2025 roster. https://www.si.com/college/texas/football/transfer-qb-cj-rogers-commits-to-texas-longhorns-for-2025-season-01jgs49d9hhn Edited May 4May 4 by Vito Andolini

May 5May 5 Nothing wrong with depth, and veteran locker room presence. This is all about Sarks culture..

KJ’s redshirt shouldn’t be a priority. No 5’11 kid can play quarterback for Texas, the progression will be Manning to Bell with Lacey transferring out or being a back up to both his whole career.

And Drew Brees says hi, he was never a true 6' even if you put him on a rack or do that crazy shit in some movie they cut and extended his legs. I do appreciate the feedback that this is tutelage? But I thought we already had one QB for this?
May 5May 5 I posted in the transfer thread, but we follow Troy pretty closely since my wife is an alum. He was the backup to start the season. Came in for the last 5 games after the starter got hurt, so the stats you see reported are only for 5 games. During those 5 games he was...ok I guess? I thought he played better than the original starter, (he went 3-2, which was 3 of our 4 wins on the season) but the offense was hard to watch at times. But he definitely had some good moments. I thought he might have had a chance at starting next year
May 5May 5 Troy looked damn good at last year's Spring game. Watch this year Aggy Spring game - Miles is their best QB but freshman Troy totally out did the 3 scrubs they have. I don't want to see him start this year - means our LB had to take a day off but he could and I expect would be brilliant. QB is never going to be an issue with Sark running the show.

He posts actual opinions on other boards (e.g. IPIHB). But yeah, 95% of what he posts on here and the Football board is bullshit / bait for the stupids. God help me, but I find some of his schtick pretty funny.

May 6May 6 Sark has had to start his backup QB in at least a game every season he’s been here. Guessing he saw something in practice from Owens that undermined his trust in that insurance policy.
