Investigators are looking at why the boat was going in reverse and why it sped up toward the bridge.

If they were stuck in reverse and the tidal current is quickly moving them backwards to the bridge, maybe the only quick option is to increase speed in an attempt to turn around. Speeding up so you can ultimately slow down or get away.

While it's not as glamorous of an exit, having 2+ tugboats take you out of the river/harbor/whatever would be the safest. Ships are more in danger in harbors than on the open ocean.

Still a lot of facts unknown.

On the topic of a Tall Ship parade, major gatherings are rare events. I would love to see one someday.

I think the saying is "ships and sailors rot in port."

I think you'll have a pretty good opportunity for a tall ship parade on 7/4/26, if you're in New York.

A white person was at the helm which in Mexico is a DEI hire.

Not trying to be a dick to you specifically, but how have so many of you never seen tall ships?  It's kind of a big deal and they make a show of it.

Does nobody remember the Bicentennial?

Per online sleuthing she was at Pier 17.  There is not much distance between the pier and the bridge and from the video it looks like her screws won’t come out of reverse and she is moving backwards fast.  Very likely would have been far more dangerous to try and scramble everyone down by the time it became clear it was going to happen.

These ships are diplomatic and educational symbols and when they are in a port, they offer free tours and stuff for the public.  Super shitty and sad all around.

Why are you presuming the ship’s gender?
