The problem is even in those situations where we desperately need to win the tournament to keep our season going, like in 2015 with the baseball team, it means we suck and we kind of don't really want the season to continue anyway. I give a fuck though. Just because winning things is cool. And in the case of the basketball team, winning the conference tournament is the only tournament title we have a realistic chance of ever winning. I don't see us ever cutting down the nets in the NCAA tournament. Edited May 23May 23 by Valmy77

If you host a Regional you often get a Tuesday night opponent so you can pitch off. A Super Regional is a traditional 3 game series. In Omaha you get days off As far as your hypothetical two wins from a title, it’s not even possible to have a fully rested Riojas and Harrison even with the off days unless one of them got blown up in their start and yanked early so you could use them later. In that event we are likely in the losers bracket Flores booted a double play, and the bullpen didn’t have their best. On to the regional. That simple Agreed but Schloss didn’t manage pitching as though this was a must win, and sometimes a conference tourney is a must win, you know that. You avoided the question, it’s fine but don’t act like my perspective or hornsby’s is just without any merit. The game didn’t matter, he staffed it accordingly, still tried to win and offense and defense couldn’t pull it out when saunier and burns flubbed it up. Edited May 23May 23 by troph
May 23May 23 Pitching is the furthest thing from my concern. Jalin Flores and Will Gasparino were two guys that you were expecting to anchor the top half of your lineup and they have been the two worst qualified hitters on the team. Jalin we are pretty much stuck with. If Jonah is able to go in the Regional I honestly think you will see Jonah-Farmer-Belyeu in the outfield and Will on the bench Jonah and Belyeu are going to have to step up big time.

I liked getting some guys some high leverage moments. I would have enjoyed laughing at this hick conference if we won both the trophies. But I have been thinking about next weekend since the moment this conf tournament started. This is where I'm at. Obviously don't like losing in this way, but as soon as it was over I was like "oh well fuck it. Doesn't really matter anyways"
May 23May 23 Sorry for the dumb question but there's no "losers bracket" in the SEC tournament, correct? Longhorns are completely bounced from the tournament now, I believe? I don't follow enough baseball to know the rules.

That’s true too, the criticism you lobbed was about those of us saying Schloss didn’t pitch this aggressively to win. Fact is our offense has been so so all year. We aren’t winning giving up 7. We just aren’t. look it’s fine. You make good points but you aren’t addressing the answers to your criticisms. It’s fine I don’t care.

Having said that, the last few weeks needs to get cleaned up. Not exactly peaking at the right time.
May 23May 23 I watched the post game press conference and Schlossnagle didn't explain his reasoning for going with Walker --> Saunier --> Burns --> Grubbs --> Volantis instead of the usual Starter --> Grubbs --> Volantis. I was hoping they'd ask him whether or not he was trying to win the game, but they didn't. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't be sad if Jonah got more PT than Will at this point, even vs a lefty. I can't remember but doesn't he have decent stats against lefty's anyways?

I think he wasn't planning on using Grubbs or Volantis but once the game got to where it was, he was like fuck it let's try to win it. Also if we had pulled it out in extra innings, I think our pitching lineup in the next game would've been even more of a "we don't care, let's just see what happens"

Jonah is 4 for his last 21 against SEC competition. Max is 2 for 18 in his return. Looks like Galvan is sub-.200 in May against the SEC. That’s better than Flores, but it isn’t great baseball. Any of our guys could step up and be the guy. I think a weeklong reset could be helpful for a number of guys. That’s probably not what Belyeu needs however. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us hit well next weekend.

Anything we did was to get reps and discovery going into the post season (that matters more). Still tried to win, but with a lazy dog in the hunt. Some guys got valuable playing time and the coaches got a bit of insight into things that we may need down the road. IOW, Texas didn’t want to be there…. Hmmm, very interesting.

May 23May 23 Great game between Texas and Tennessee. I would’ve pulled walker after 2 innings. Or 3 innings max. The 4th inning was a lucky bonus. Stahp! You had to have a 1 base runner limit going into that 5th. Let the guy end with a 1-run taste in his mouth what the fuck!

May 23May 23 LSU vs A&M is going to be very interesting on a number of levels. If LSU loses today, their RPI is going to fall all the way to #14, and I am not sure they get a top 8 with an RPI that low. Obviously, if A&M loses, their season is over, and that would be glorious. Good day for hate watching.
May 23May 23 I'm predicting that aggy goes on to win the tournament, because that's just the kind of thing that this timeline would do.

May 23May 23 you forgot to add the bomc esipn snakey conspiracy controversy that MUST be part of the collapse preceding the walk-off.... a weird strike zone, disputed outs, hits, bases, whatever there MUST be something that will account for the 8-run collapse with 2 outs
