Tommy Lloyd's teams have done this before though, it's getting over the hump in March that has been the challenge for him. Yeah, I was gonna say, that tweet Derka posted about Arizona should have an addendum at the bottom *Will still probably lose in the Sweet 16 as a #1 seed

Yeah I had just been curious last night about the teams ahead of AZ. Doesn't seem like much of a comparison for who has the best resume in this early point of the season. Purdue's best win @ Alabama, which should hold up really well this season. Houston's best win is Auburn, which is another team AZ will play in a couple weeks, along with Alabama and San Diego St.

November 22Nov 22 Last night Tech is up by 4 and Wake Forest inbounds the ball length of court, only for the receiver to immediately tap pass to guy set up outside 3 range, and he nails it. No contact. No foul. Tech wins by 1. badass shot to close out the game though. Tonight in 3rd place game, Memphis is up by 2 with 2 seconds left, and Wake basically runs the same exact play. Swish. Wake wins by 1. Amazing to see it on back to back nights by same team.
November 22Nov 22 Give Tech credit. They are leaving no doubt. 1. Christian Anderson is not a PG. He can't penetrate. Hell the offense starts from the logo, because that's as close as he can get. 2. Petty is too small to be the PG. he gets fucking worked. 3. The offense seems to be stand the fuck around and hope for a 3, unless Toppin gets his regular plays. When it's a miss, there is fucking nobody but opponents in the paint. 4. I learned last year that CMC's defense is very passive; which was a major change for us as fans. This shit tonight is from the planet bullshit. 5. CMC taking the timeouts into the lockerroom at halftime last night with Wake on a 10-0 run pissed me off. Like I said earlier, tonight he is leaving no doubt.

November 22Nov 22 Hawkins didn't get pushed around though. Maybe Petty will grow into it- mentally as much as anything else. Edited November 22Nov 22 by Iceman

November 22Nov 22 19 minutes ago, Iceman said: That is incorrect. Tech is 4-2. Ha. Cut-paste’d too soon after the game. I do not want to get too optimistic, but this might be one of the best Purdue teams I have seen in over 30 years. Guys like Matt Heide and Myles Colvin transferred (to Texas and Wake, respectively) because they were not going to get much playing time. Heide is getting light minutes at Texas but put up 20 recently (yes, against Rider). Colvin is getting 27 mins and 13 points per game at Wake - and hit the game winner against Memphis. Heide saw around 20 mpg and Colvin 18 for Purdue last year.
November 22Nov 22 Yeah, Purdue is much more battle ready than Tech was. I'm not sure how good of a measuring stick that game is for Painter's Crew, other than they absolutely controlled every aspect of the game, with execution on their side. Tech offered zero balance in their offensive attack. Zero on the defensive end. Purdue's starters probably have to work harder in practice... The screen shot did throw me off though because it plainly says it's final... and then I was like, "Illinois + Purdue= 2 losses" lots of work to be done by McCasland. I felt like I saw him not being the best coach he could be a couple different times in this tourney. Not calling a TO to break Wake's run before half is one example. The 4 guys standing around watching Tippin on offense was just fucked up. No movement no nothing. That's why these events are valuable though. You don't get a lot of learning against Western Prairie State. Edited November 22Nov 22 by Iceman
November 22Nov 22 All great points. As for McCasland's choices about timeouts, etc., some coaches (esp. early in the season) do things subtly different just to see how the squad responds. Not sure if that is what he was doing... The standing around and watching the top player has driven me crazy in watching Texas in the past and Purdue w/ Glenn Robinson. 2-edged sword when you have a player of Toppin's capability. You want the guy making things happen, AND you want his teammates to move around finding a seam for an assist, etc.
November 25Nov 25 Bama Zags in a good one. That Philon guy is a f'n baller. I dont think I ever really noticed the guy until the end of last year, and now every time i see Bama play, he jumps out at me. Kid can play. Edited November 25Nov 25 by Blotto
November 26Nov 26 Author i know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but i love watching barnes vs sampson.
November 26Nov 26 Author great game. two heavyweights going at it, blow for blow. Edited November 26Nov 26 by Derka
November 26Nov 26 Author it’s a barrage by both teams late. i’m guessing there’s a bunch of angry bettors out there who took the under.
November 26Nov 26 Author tennessee hits every single ft they take down the stretch and holds off houston. really good game with some exciting individual performances as well. definitely looked like they were back in the e8.
November 26Nov 26 Zags looking a bit formidable early on this season, completely forgot Buzz left A&M for Maryland.
November 26Nov 26 UNLV Coach: Boys, we’ve been invited to play in a tournament. Players: Hawaii? Bahamas? Florida? Coach: No. Right here at home. Players: the fuck?!
November 26Nov 26 Players Era: Hey ISU, wanna make some $ and play good teams? ISU: Yeah! Players Era: Cool, here's St John's and Creighton. ISU: Beat 'em both, what's next? Players Era: $0 in extra NIL and a noon tip off against a shitty Cuse squad for 5th place.

Opened up a can of whoop ass on the Zags. i’ve never seen a team with this combination of tempo and AdjD. also, @Dbeasy dusty may is another example (like oats and mccasland) of a younger, lesser acclaimed coach who was identified by a football school’s AD and was a home run hire.

November 28Nov 28 Great game that has gone back and forth. #4 Duke and #22 Pig tied at 64 with six minutes left in the game.
November 28Nov 28 Boozer takes over for Duke down the stretch and breaks open a tight game. His 35 points leads Duke to the 80-71 win over Piggy in Chicago.
