May 20May 20 'Cheers' Star George Wendt Dead at 76 https://www.tmz.com/2025/05/20/cheers-george-wendt-dead/
May 20May 20 This one is rough. Just finished another Cheere rewatch. His interview on Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson’s podcast was great.
May 20May 20 Great character, brilliant writing, sublime execution by Wendt. RIP, George, you made a lot of people laugh.
May 20May 20 Popular Post Can I pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson? A little early isn't it, Woody? For a beer? No, for stupid questions. RIP to a great one.
May 20May 20 Author Norm: Is this going to affect the price of beer? Sam: No. Norm: Then what do we care?
May 20May 20 What'll you have, Normie? Well, I'm in a gambling mood, Sammy. I'll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap. Looks like beer, Norm. Call me Mister Lucky.
May 20May 20 Damn it. I really wish they had finally had Vera come into the bar to get Norm and have it been Cindy Crawford or some other amazingly hot model. RIP Norm.
May 20May 20 CLIFF: Oh, what's the matter there, big guy? NORM: That damn “Hungry Heifer” restaurant again. The place is the pits. CLIFF: Wait. You went back? I thought you hated it there. NORM: I got lured back by their “surf-and-turf” special. CLIFF: Oh, yeah. What's that, lobster and steak, huh? NORM: Tuna fish sandwich with beef gravy.
May 20May 20 4 minutes ago, smuggs said: Damn it. I really wish they had finally had Vera come into the bar to get Norm and have it been Cindy Crawford or some other amazingly hot model. Parks and Rec gave us a version of that.
May 20May 20 34 minutes ago, C-Man said: Norm: Is this going to affect the price of beer? Sam: No. Norm: Then what do we care? I loved that episode and actually (metaphorically) try to live my life by this philosophy.
May 20May 20 "What's going on, Mr. Peterson." "The question is what's going in Mr. Peterson. A beer please, Woody."
May 20May 20 Interestingly, he was a big 80s, 90s indie rock/punk fan as well. Appeared in the Replacements documentary, Color me Obsessed. and here is a Minutemen anecdote Edited May 20May 20 by yoladu
May 20May 20 Coach: Can I draw you a beer, Norm? Norm: No, I know what they look like. Just pour me one.
May 20May 20 and just realized Fat Sam and Chief Karlin died in the same month. Better watch out cast of Fletch
May 20May 20 I have a lot of very complex thoughts on this... Instead of rambling... What's the story, Norm? Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer. Bye Norm! Edited May 20May 20 by BurntEyes
May 20May 20 I saw this episode when it first aired, and it remains my strongest association with all things Norm/George.
May 20May 20 Terrorists, Sam. They've taken over my stomach & they're demanding beer. Props to the legendary man we'll always remember as Norm. RIP George.
May 20May 20 Norm: I'm outta here I guess. Going to stop over at the health club. Frasier: You belong to a health club? Norm: Yeah, Vera gave me a membership for my birthday. Real subtle, huh? Frasier: You actually go there and work out? Norm: Yeah, I try to do about 25 in the pool everyday. Frasier: Laps? Norm: Cannon balls. RIP
May 20May 20 "Everybody should have something they love. You know what I love?" "Beer, Norm?" "Yeah, I'll have one."
May 21May 21 He was good in the movie House too ...not to be confused with House II which continued the Cheers casting with John Ratzenberger.
May 21May 21 Hey Norm! Jack Frost nipping at your nose? Yeah; now let’s get Joe Beer nipping at my liver, shall we?
May 21May 21 For a second, I thought the guy who died was the guy who played Major Derlin in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
May 21May 21 Me and my roommates back in college had nothing but broadcast television on a 13 inch crt and a Sega console. Best time of the day was having a beer with Norm from 10-11. One of the OTA channels would play two episodes every night in the original order of the series. This was our ritual before going out.
May 21May 21 Loved Cheers growing up. All of the characters, including Norm, were lovably flawed and hilarious. George Wendt gave a ton of people joy and laughter with his perforformance. Also, Wendt was 33 or 34 years old when he started playing Norm.
May 21May 21 George Wendt was a big fan of the Replacements, and really a lot of indie/alternative/punk bands. See the post above of him at a show in a Billy Bragg t shirt. For Replacements super-fans, there's a pretty cool documentary called "Color me Obsessed" that interviews fans, other musicians from the Minneapolis scene, roadies, etc. None of the Replacements are in it. But it's still very good. Anyway, they interview George Wendt and he said he always sort of thought "Here Comes a Regular" was inspired by Norm's Cheers character. That's probably not exactly the case, but Norm is the quintessential "regular" so regardless, it fits.
