Interestingly, he was a big 80s, 90s indie rock/punk fan as well. Appeared in the Replacements documentary, Color me Obsessed.

and here is a Minutemen anecdote

OK, that got me. Gettin' a little dusty in here.

Cheers was my all-time favorite show until Seinfeld came along. But Cheers was first. Our HS senior song was the theme song from Cheers.

The best thing about this, to me, is that it’s a smart gag and they assumed their audience would understand it.

Though I guess the cynic in me might say the live audience could have been prepped or the scene reshot if they didn’t react, and the tv audience had the laughter to clue them in.

but I prefer to think the former happened.

You see it coming and just can’t wait for the punchline.

There’s the other thing- they take their time with it.

I was today years old when I learned that George Wendt is Jason Sudeikis' uncle.

I would say I will "pour one out" for Norm, but that would be sacrilege so I will stick with a simple RIP Norm!!

I’ve been processing it. 76 is a good run especially for a guy born in the 1940’s.

Cheers in my book, is the best comfort food show of all time. It’s always good for a laugh or a smile even on your worst day. George Wendt was a big part of that, and we’re all better for it. Rest in Peace Norm.

I think about this scene way more than I'd like to admit.

RIP

The 'goat' tv theme song!?  What other ones can someone who has never seen the show still sing along with and enjoy?

Wendt attended Campion High School, a Jesuit boarding school for boys in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and then Notre Dame — until he was expelled with a 0.0 GPA as a junior.

“I basically quit and didn’t inform the university,” he told The Kansas City Star in 2016. “I’d moved off campus my junior year, and I didn’t think it through. I didn’t have a car. It was cold. I never went to class.”

TIL that Jason Sudeikis is George Wendt's nephew. Jason's mom is George's sister.
