August 9Aug 9 Joe was a running back, but they played both ways, at least during practice. But anyways Joe was instrumental in the play against Baylor, as a defensive back, that forced an interception into Duke Carlisle (also the QB)! Times were different, but Joe Dixon played a role to create an undefeated season and Texas’ first National Championship in 1963. Hook’em!!!
August 9Aug 9 My TV schedule says SEC Network has (prolly a replay) Texas Spring Football All-Access on at 5:00PM (in 8 minutes), if you need a fix. Edited August 9Aug 9 by BachelorTrek

August 12Aug 12 Popular Post My Dad didn’t “letter” until less than 4 minutes remaining vs Navy in the ‘63 National Championship game. ST play don’t “letter” unless you statistically return or kick the ball back then. One had to physically be on the field for an offensive or defensive snap. I’ve told this before, but Dad was standing next to DKR with about 4 minutes remaining of that Cotton Bowl. He turns to Dad and asks, “Mickey have you been in the game today?” Which Dad said only on KOs. Coach Royal, as we had the ball close to the RZ, already up 28-6, said go in there and send somebody off, which Dad turned and asked who do I send off? DKR said I don’t care who, just don’t send Duke off, preferably an OL. True story, thus my Dad lettered after being a practice/scout team player for four years and had only played his Jr/Sr years on KOs. Has a T Ring and National Championship ring for ‘63! Will be buried with both, as they are his 82 yr old prized possessions! Hook’em!!!
