Correct, we have Flores (I assume he will start against K State), Riojas (I assume they will save him for the evening game), Grubbs will be available, Burns will be available, plenty of mid level arms to carry us through the day.

Bing, Dre, Flores, Ruger, and gasp, Howard (who has been pitching well lately) are all rested still. Grubbs can go against KSU and even DV could pitch an inning in the second game if we advance.  We have depth. Just need to fucking hit more consistently and get runs from RISP.

This team peaked early and rode a long hot streak, with injuries and everything they kinda started to nose dive at the end.  Even if they lose the regional, really they out preformed expectations by a wide margin.  Still sucks though

Losing a regional is not outperforming shit at Texas. So sick of this loser shit. The expectation is playing in Omaha. Period.

We'll probably score about 14 in game 1 tomorrow, then shit the bed in game 2, because of course that would happen.

This. We left an entire schoolbus worth of people on base today. Literally one clutch hit and we win the game.

When we lost, my first thought was “damn, Flores and Gasparino just have too much drip for their own good”

You realize we regularly play four games a week and we have only played two.

I think our bullpen is capable of going for more than two games. Goddamn you people.

Name them. We only have two weekend starters.
Harrison and Volantis are burned. Burns and Grubbs will be on back to backs. That leaves us with guys like Bing, Flores, Saunier, Duplantier.
We regularly play 4 games over the span of 6 days. This is going to be 4 games in 3 days if we win tomorrow and then a 5th on day 4.

This is mirroring last year's regional....I'm not liking it.

Maybe. He’s also coaching a supremely untalented lineup. The defensive guru tag is rather stale though

None of those guys inspire much confidence to get outs consistently. There’s a reason our bullpen has essentially become Burns, Grubbs, and DV.

If You Say So Shrug GIF

Striking out looking with RISP, 2 outs, and the game on the line is unforgivable.  Williams did it twice and Belyeu ended the game with it.

Why'd they do it?  Because even in that situation, they're looking (or guessing) for a certain pitch to hit - offensive/aggressive hitting - which is the wrong approach.  Shorten up and commit to hitting defensively to all fields and you don't get absolutely frozen on a hanging curveball (or in Williams' second instance, a piped FB).

It's basic shit and they won't do it, which makes me wonder if they're coached to do what they're doing or if they're just that far lost.

We have the pitching to come out of the losers bracket. Do we have the testicular fortitude to pull it off? I guess we will find out.

One way or another, this thread is going to be lit.

-The decision to not go straight to Volantis in the 6th with 2 outs, only to turn to him to start the 7th down 2 runs, was mind blowing.

-The offense shit the bed the second half the game but a 6-1 lead in the 6th should be a win 98% of the time.

-1/3rd of this starting lineup is not occupied by a SEC caliber player.

-Tulo ain’t getting fired and I don’t think he should be given the point I made above but the fact his star pupil is borderline unplayable as a 3rd starter is ridiculous.

27 minutes ago, Hondo said:

Yes, I've pondered it and I agree with you.  It also supports my point.

All the more reason you can't do this...

Complaining about swagger and theatrics, which have been mostly with Williams and Galvan when it comes to you, seems a bit pointless when you check that they both combined for half the RBI’s tonight at the plate. Williams is true freshman at 17 years old and struggles at the plate when it’s not his pitch. Wow, shocker.

My point is Galvan having a bit of personality(1st team all-sec) or guys having some facial hair is at the very fucking bottom of why we are not playing good right now.

What is disconcerting is that our hitters seem to get worse over time, not better.  I can't help but wonder wtf Tulo is doing with all of that.?

From this angle it doesn't look too good.

Tough to say since we aren’t involved with the day to day coaching. The guys have made bad habits that sprouted a little after the middle of the season. It’s similar to what they showed last year with Pierce. Sometimes you can’t coach consistency and guys will ultimately level up or revert back to their mean once the grind sets in. There is only so much Tulo/Schloss can do before it sets in that Gaspo can’t lay off pitches in the other batters box.

Texas 1  0  5  0  0  0  1  0  0  7 10 2

I don’t think we come out tomorrow and suddenly decide to turn this team into an awesome confident hitting and pitching machine and blow out KS, then UTSA. We will be lucky to win the first game….I just don’t expect a different team to show up tomorrow.

From my perspective, the only player we have that has a nutsack (other than Volantis) is a 17 year old.

The rest of our team’s testicular fortitude reminds me of:

Well that was not a fun one to attend. Long as shit with mouthy UTSA fans.

I couldn’t believe Schloss left Harrison in so long it was so painfully obvious he was done. At least 4 batters too long. Then he yanked Grubbs too early. Burns was throwing unhittable fastballs than serves up meatball sliders…not even to mention all the pathetic approaches at the plate and fielding.

Amateur hour from the 4th inning on.

Jim Schlossnagle runs the offense. Tulo spends a lot of time in the cages working on mechanical and swing stuff but Schlossnagle is the one instilling the approach and gameplan he wants.

And Jim Schlossnagle ain’t changing his approach so we will need to ride out whatever the rest of this season holds then hope we upgrade personnel in several spots and guys get more comfortable in year 2.

Schloss pulled Harrison because he didn’t hit a stanky leg after strikes, imo

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone slump as bad as Flores. He has to be benched. He’s an auto out in every situation.

Apparently not AAC caliber either.

I played poker with the KSU first baseman at Texas Card House for a couple of hours tonight. He was still there when I left at midnight, lulz. He fucked up his wrist today and was in a splint, so he wasnt sure if he'd be able to play tomorrow. I asked if they had curfew and he said, "yeah .....11PM but nobody checks". I offered to buy him 10 shots but he declined. I guess the guy doesn't like shots.

What makes you confident that Harrison was getting out of that? He had clearly reached his limit imo. At most he finishes that inning so I don’t know how it changes the bullpen usage much.

What makes me confident Harrison was getting out of it was the two double play balls he got that our defense fucked up. They weren’t hitting him hard all game so not sure why you think he had reached his limit. We have two pitchers in the team that regular get ground balls. We took out the guy who’d just done it two batters in a row to go to the guy that’s been struggling for the last month or so.

And it was 6-1. Let your starter pitch. They are starters for a reason

Tulo doesn’t seem to do [emoji90] poop. He has a great seat/spot at the end of the dugout watching players consistently not putting the ball in play or more often than not striking out with RISP. No input whatsoever during the game it seems. He did it for himself (hitting wise) but doesn’t seem to project that to the players. Time to move on.
We gave them this game defensively and offensively. So disappointing.

After going up 6-1, the rest of the game felt like some of the 3rd & 4th quarters we endured in the Fall.  At least we squeaked most of those out.
